Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

Hello. Very new to disboards (or any board) so I hope this works!

Does anyone know if Disney might allow those of us running the Halloween 5K to exchange our ticket to the halloween party on the 3rd for another night? We will be heading home that day. Officially they say "no" but maybe if we went to guest services? Thoughts?

Seriously doubt it. I am sure that the offer for the night targeted is to get guest to spend a couple more nights at the mouse house. I am sure you could ask but I seriously aoubt they will chage the offering. By that weekend the part should be (or close to) sold out for the weekend nights.

I just signed up for the W&D. I have no idea where I will be staying or how I will get there (which airline, that is).

Please dear weather gods, please make this night a little cooler than what we experienced at the Race for the Taste this past year. :crazy2: :thumbsup2

I second the prayer about needing something cooler than last years Race for the Taste. I remember sitting in the starting area with sweat running down my back. That was at 4 am and I wasn't moving yet. :scared1:

Let me know if you are stuck re: a place to stay. I might have room with me at OKW.

Of course I waited too long and now the race is sold out. I'm totally bummed. Has anyone heard any rumors if they will open up the registration again or add more entry spots? WDW said that it might be possible to secure admission through charities that are running? Does anyone know of any charities that are offering up spots for fundraising? I'm never opposed to doing some fundraising for a worthy cause!!

That is true of the January event but I don't think it is for the Wine & Dine. I can't say for certain but usually when there are affiliated charity spots open for registration there is a charity option in the menu. Also in the past on the registration page, after the race is full, they put a link to the charities. If there are charities with reserved spots there is a chance those will be put back into the pool for everyone once the charities turn in their actual numbers. For example, if TNT gets 1,000 spots but only need 800 there would be 200 spots thrown back in.

I would contact Disney Sports and ask them.

Anyone know what number they capped off the race at? Just curious.

Had a great running weekend. Went to the mountains for a 4 day mini-vacation and ran my long run (8 miles) on Saturday at 7 a.m. and it was about 60-65 degrees with hardly any humidity. So nice and I felt great after. I also got a lot of reading in, including some of the Complete Runner's Handbook by Bob Glover. I was on the chapter of Running Safety when it said to "put a quarter in the little pocket on your running shorts in case you need to make a phone call". I guess I didn't realize how long ago I bought the book! :)

But I did learn a lot about how women being "allowed" to run in longer races is a fairly new thing (which I didn't know before) and how Katherine Switzer had registered for the Boston Marathon in the 60's under "K. Switzer" and was assumed to be a man. But after a few miles into the race the race director caught up with her and tried to rip her number off (her boyfriend was running with her and he showed the race director what he thought of him trying to rip her number off :)) and she was thrown out of the race for running with men, running more than the "allowable" distance (1.5 miles) for women, and running without a chaperone. Crazy how much things have changed. :thumbsup2

Anyways, hope everyone had a great weekend and has a great running week! :goodvibes

Thanks for the well wishes. I did 7 miles about a month ago in the same time, and haven't done more than a 10k since, so this was a good night for me. I feel MUCH better about doing the half in just over 10 weeks.

Great job! I tried to run tonight but it was way too hot, I only got 1.5 miles before I had to stop. I'm setting my alarm for 5 am to run in the morning instead.

:scared1:Yikes! I wish I was a morning person, but it's just not gonna happen. Have a great run!:goodvibes

I am also curious about the race cap.

In response to running at 5am, give it a try. I also think if you have a running partner to meet at 5am it is easier to get up. This is exactly what I do. I live in Alabama so it is way too hot to run past 7am for me. I would rather force myself to get up at 5am, than run with the sun! I was so against the early morning run, until I finally broke down and gave it a try a few months ago. Oh, and I am a teacher, so I really have no reason to be up at 5am this time of year!

Congrats to those of you getting in those 8 milers! That's great.

Has anyone else been having difficulties this summer running in the humidity? This is only my second summer running, and last summer was much cooler and less humid. I had been doing my runs with no problems.

This summer the humidity has been awful here in CT, even when we occasionally get a day that's been a bit cooler. I try to run, but in a matter of seconds it seems I am gasping futilely for air. I do have mild asthma problems, but it's not anything that I'm on any normal inhaler for. I've been having the breathing problems all summer, not just when I'm running. That's just when it's the worst.

My goal for the half is to do 1/1 intervals, but with my breathing problems I'm having difficulties doing that. I went out Sunday to do 5 miles, and was only able to do about half of it with the intervals. My breathing was so bad I thought my lungs where going to explode and I had to walk. I hate feeling so hindered by something out of my control. My legs feel strong!

If U Had Wings, I had a problem adjusting to the heat back when it started (it feels like forever ago) in May/June, but it's better now. Going out after work helps a lot, and cloud cover, of course. I'm still looking forward to the fall.

I imagine that I'm not going to have very nice things to say about winter running, and will be very happy for the heat and humidity to come back.

Just got in from my first 8 miler,, 1:21:49. Not bad.

That's is SUPER! I did a 7.5 miler on Saturday in about that same time.

The heat and humidity in Missouri this summer has also been worse than it has been for the past few years. I'm not complaining as I don't run outside in the cold at all.

Keep up the training everyone!!!!

Oh yeah, last night was 88 degrees when I started, 90% humidity. Super.

Ran the 2nd in my series of 3 5ks in 3 weeks last night...I looked like i just came out of the shower when I was done...it was so hot here in VA and the sun was just beating down on us!! At least some people were out on their lawns with sprinklers helping us out :thumbsup2 which was nice
