Actually when we were there all the boos were for Clinton and Bush got the applause...I was pretty surprised to say the least.

yikes...

I'm afraid I'm a bubbette, not a bubba. :)

My reference to 'inappropriate' and 'unpatriotic' was about people napping in HOP. Unless my Uncle Frank is in the audience napping, you're likely to be able to hear the whole show.

I'm very sorry the attraction was ruined for you because some people booed and some people cheered.

When I went people boo'd as well but people also boo'd Clinton so there was "unpatriotic" activity from both sides.

Just because I'm free to do something, doesn't make it appropriate. Do you always do something just because you can, of course not.

I think it's juvenile.

Not looking to get into a debate - but I'm glad you think personal protest is juvenile

I believe there are two seperate issues being argued in this thread. Is it unpatriotic or inapproriate to boo (or cheer) at an animated figure during a show? Or to fall asleep? We certainly should speak out although doing so at a theme park probably isn't getting anyone anywhere. There are many things that bother me but out of repect for other guests who may want to hear the show I keep quiet, which is the second issue to this thread which is common courtesy (or rudeness). It's the same reason I never use flash photography on the rides as it disrupts other guests experience.

Personally I also think it is rather silly to do this at an attraction like this and where does it stop? As someone else on this thread pointed out they always boo Warren Harding for his administrations mistakes. Like I said earlier you also might as well shake your fist at the tv or face towards Washington D.C. every morning and shake your fist!

What did Bambi's mother tell him?
If you dont have anything nice to say, dont say nothin at all!

:rolleyes1

You may not agree with the politics but you should still respect the office of the President of the united States of America. Maine :firefight

wait a minute, Take a pause.

Some of you are COMPLETELY missing the point.

It's not about the cheers or boos. Not only that, I think cheers are MUCH different than boos, even if it's for a guy I don't approve of.

The point here was this...................the people booing, did not stop within booing. They continued to shout comments into the show and during Bush's speech. You think that's acceptable? Again, this IS NOT THE PLACE to voice those opinions. People pay alot of money to enjoy the attraction. You couldn't even concentrate on the show for the beligerance involved in some members of the crowd.

that is my point.

Again, as someone said, yes Dissent IS in a sense. However, there is a time and place for Dissent and it should be organized and not in a chaotic manner.

I think some people take words at face value and don't put effort into thinking things out. Dissent is patriotic if done in the proper manner. It should be done without breaking rules or laws that have been mandated.

Laying down in traffic in New York and stopping all traffic, including ambulances does not show patriotism. Likewise, the HOP does have rules about silence during the show. They should be observed.

Disrupting the peace during a show that people have looked forward to seeing and have paid money to see is not patriotism.

I think the cheers and boo's are fine, IF you are one that is into that thing, which Im not as I will publicly support my president and show my opposition at the polls. However, disrupting the show should not be tolerated.

I know you are not responding to me but I just want to say that, protest is BY NO MEANS juvenile, but it is when done at the HOP where chances of a gov't figure seeing/hearing it are nearly zero and where it does nothing more than disturb the public, which of whom a large part likely agrees with you and simply wants to enjoy the show on their vacation.

I agree 100%. While I disagree with many presidents, I am not so naive as many to believe that even the party I voted for is perfect. I dislike certain presidents and I show my voice at the polls. If you want to organize a rally, go ahead, that is your American right. However, respect should always be shown towards the person in office. I think too many people are taking the "freedom of speech" to a level of "I can do whatever i want whenever I want to do it". Just because you "can" doesn't mean you "should". Not only that, I bet if you were to ask somoene, a CM at HOP, you "can't" do what that group did, as it simply was not stopped by the CM"s, who likely didn't know how to react to it.

Its one thing to not agree with your current or even past leader(s), but really, must it be voiced in the middle of an attraction like that?! I understand there is freedom of speech, and amen to that!! But where is the pride? Where is the respect to fellow Americans? Where is the respect to foreigners who have come to maybe learn something about our current and past leaders?! I may or may not agree with our current leader OR the past one, but I atleast have some pride and respect to not act like an idiot and disrupt others while watchin animatronics at a theme park! Take those comments and go where it really matters!! And where you will really be heard if you think it will make a diffrence! I realize Disney brings out the kid in all of us, but I bet a 5 year old would behave and have more respect then those disrupting a 'fun' show like that! Whether its the HOP or any show for that matter not even dealing anything with political matters, I dont want to hear some ding bat yelling anything if Im there to enjoy it!

I agree completely. If you are so concerned about your freedom of speech and exercising a protest, why are you doing it at Disney World? I support your right to protest, even if I disagree with it, and think you should do it. However, you are doing an injustice to everyone with your same thoughts if you don't do it appropriately.

One thing I've learned is, people who protest in an organized fashion looked completely educated and generally get changes made in time, while someone who protests the exact same thought in an unorganized manner simply looks like a radical that nobody supports.

I was just wondering one thing, since the animatronic figures are not the real people why did the people making all the fuss think that anyone was really interested in listening to them?

You don't want to be at my house when I'm watching football on TV...LOL.

True it's not going to solve anything, but it doesn't hurt anybody as long as its not constant throughout the show.

So what's the point..it doesn't help and it doesn't hurt. So it's all a waste of time and inconsiderate to those who want to enjoy the attraction.

Unless of course, they're really trying to make a statement that they are rude and inconsiderate. :rotfl2:

Give me a break! Personal protest against a bunch of animatronic figures in Disney World? You've GOT to be kidding me. :rotfl2:

I guess people have the right to make all useless noise they want to (and it really is useless, and yes, juvenile, to "protest" inside HoP; I don't think any of the 3 branches of our government are looking to HoP crowd reactions to sway their policies), but how about just simple consideration for your fellow Disney guests? I get annoyed at selfish, loud, obnoxious guests who make a lot of noise at ANY show where silence is expressly requested in the beginning. These people seem like they are more interested in gathering attention to themselves than in enjoying a vacation, and yes, letting OTHERS enjoy their vacations as well.

Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing. But please consider your fellow guests, whether you're in HoP, a movie theater or wherever. Your free speech hurts fellow guests ears when you exercise it in a completely inappropriate place like HoP.

OP, it is rude, immature and disrespectful to the other guests and it would really bug me too.

Since these comments were continuous, I do not approve of them at all - I was under the impression that they were a one time thing at the end of the president's speech. THAT should not be a problem...

I don't shout at shows, I have no desire to...but I will stick up for these people!! You have to realize, these people aren't trying to draw attention to themselves - their thought process is remotely within their group. And whether it be a family, a couple, or a group of friends, they are also there to have a good time. Leave them alone if they want to make on eor two comments. Now if they're constantly making pointless noise throughout the show, that's a whole other story.

"you should still respect the office of the President of the united States of America" HAHAHAHA, I'm sorry, that made me laugh...I shouldn't be forced to "respect" someone - that's a personal emotion.

Regardless of anything, none of this is considered "unpatriotic," and that's a fact. You can love your country, but hate your president. It's okay. You don't have to believe the media and follow the masses...we all are individuals...sometimes I think people forget this.

Now I'm going to stop posting on this thread because people are getting way to angry for no reason, and I don't want you guys to have an aneurysm...

I also kind of find it amusing that someone said they thought it was it good for foreigners to hear what American people at WDW have to say about their leader(s) during a HOP attraction?! What? The vast majority of them already do not like us or this country enough?! Now we cant even let them enjoy an attraction of history without slamming it in their face how arrogant and ignorant some of us can be..

Nobody, at least myself, is not getting mad at you. I simply disagree with you.

About respect, actually respect is an emotion and something that inside you can do whatever you like with. However, I think you should "show" respect whether you feel it or not. I think many people lose track of what "should" be and what "has" to be. You dont' "have" to respect your boss by any laws of the land. You can say whatever you like to him and/or treat him however you like. However, you "should" treat him with respect as he can simply fire you in return.

Again, just because you can, should you?

I just wonder where this world is going with all of the lack of care for others than one's self.

When we were there last year there were younger guys sitting behind us. When Bush came on the one said (in a rather loud voice)"way to f*** up our country you stupid a**hole!" My dad whipped around (now, he's not a small guy so he can be rather intimidating), gave him his best high school teacher glare and said, "hey buddy, this is disney. Tone it down or get out. If not I'll have you thrown out." The guy just rolled his eyes. I'm thankful that 1) I was 22 at that point and my sister was 19 instead of being a young child 2) that there were no young children who seemed to have heard and 3) my dad was in a good disney mood or that guy would have been toast!

THAT behavior is what's unbelievable!!! I'm sorry that you hate the president so much that you have to use foul language at an animatron!! There's a time and a place for that kind of behavoir and it's certainly NOT Disneyworld in the HOP!!
