In your opinion...what does "No Overnight Parking" mean?

:confused3

How is that a rude response?? here in Germany, every one knows that the laws pertains to the hours of 10pm-6am, it is one of the questions on the extensive driver's testing. Every one knows this it is common knowledge, so once again, I am baffled by the responses. It is always someone else's fault, that is why I do not live or work in the states, the attitude and sense of entitlement would drive me crazy!! I parked my car in a no parking spot yet I don't understand what I did wrong??? hello, can you follow simple instruction??

Yes, I believe I can follow instructions have to everyday - question is can you?

Since you live in Germany, you may not realize that here in the US, laws are different within each state, and within that state, each county has different laws and within the counties, each town may have different laws.

I'm assuming that in your first post, you didn't state that you were in Germany so yes, your response was rude and your understanding is incorrect.

Well if he parked his car in Germany where this is specifically covered on the dirving exam then he deserves the ticket! Lazy kid with a shady story! :sad2: I don't know how you put up with it. Really, I don't! Forget taking the keys, flush them!

For our town, not only would the parking lot had to have been marked "No overnight parking", if it was a private lot of a business, it would have had read "Private Parking for XYZ company. No overnight parking allowed. Violaters will be towed at owners expense."

I will flush the keys, rip up his "A" report card and honors designations and refuse to allow him to walk across the stage at graduation (because he's stupid and lazy and has obviously learned nothing) and forbid him to go away to college (how WILL he survive???). And as God is my witness, he will NEVER park a car in Germany!

;)

Well there ya go! Imagine that...making it CLEAR. A novel idea. :thumbsup2
New slogan... WWGD. What would Germany Do?
:lmao:

OK...I'm thinking of giving him the $137 just as a thank you for giving me fodder for an amusing DIS thread. ;) (J/K!!!)

That stinks for your son. I interpret the "overnight" to mean between midnight & 6 a.m........unless there were specific times listed, which there were not.

I don't get some of the posters that say he should be "punished" & keys taken away. :confused3 It was a mistake. :confused3 So, if it happened to those of you that say he should be punished (& I now there were only a few) what would your punishment be? That just boggles my mind that someone would say that.

Imagine this.........one of my DD's got a speeding ticket a few months ago! :scared1: We didn't yell at her, send her to her room or take the keys away. There is a small stretch on the road she was on that goes down 10 MPH & then back up again - it's a speed trap . Lesson learned for her though.......I can tell you after she paid the ticket she'll be paying much better attention to all road signs.

She didn't even "come at us" with a story. Came home & told the truth, that she got a speeding ticket. No lies or anything.

I know you say you prefer being tagless, but seriously, this is SO worthy!!!!:lmao:

and I'm still trying to wrap my head around those posters who think dark = night. I guess January in Chicago, nighttime comes at 4 in the afternoon!!!

One of the funniest things I have read on the Dis! :thumbsup2 :lmao:

I would share my full story with you but this thread has taken a turn for the ugly and I can assume I would be attacked. I will say that some friends and I did the exact same thing at the age of 18 and we were actually in another country (Canada). I assure you, we did not handle it as responsibly as your son. To this day, I am pretty sure I might be wanted in Canada! :scared1: Kudos to your son for handling it the proper way. I wish I would have been more responsible back in the day. I recently told the story to my 82 year old mom who said she has lived all these years without knowing the truth and she would have preferred that I kept it that way. :rotfl2:

I am trying to imagine what you did!

Very enjoyable thread!

Tell your son he taught me a valuable lesson, sorry it had to be at his expense! I will have to pay attention to signs/times for now on to make sure it never happens!

I personally think he sounds pretty responsible. This happened around midnight, he had a 1am curfew--instead of calling mom to come and bail him out and make excuses for being late, he did the responsible thing and located his car, was able to contact a friend to borrow the money knowing he will have to pay back (some kids think if they borrow from parents they won't have to pay back), then made it home within minutes of his curfew. I'd say his parents are doing a great job with him! A lot of other kids would either 1) freak out and not know how to handle this 2) call their parents to bail them out! This kid knows responsibility and how to solve his way out! Great job to the parents for teaching him how to think on his own!!!:cheer2:

Who knew?! :confused3

That's the only cereal we have, and I am SO going to use that line on my little darling when he's a snot. :thumbsup2

If your DD dated my DS, who knows the havoc they could wreak with their vehicles! ;) And if they married and BREEDED?! :scared1:

OK - if no overnight parking means from dusk til dawn then I probably shouldn't park in the Target parking lot at 8 pm, right? Well, the sign as you enter the lot reads "No Overnight Parking". So, using the "dusk til dawn" approach;rule, I can't park my car in that lot at 8pm (even though the store is open til 10 pm) since that's between dusk and dawn. So, where should I park?

To me, overnight means that if your car is there at dark and is still there at dawn, then it's been there overnight.

That's just me. Signs like that should have determining hours. Our town has no overnight parking on the streets during the winter (for plowing purposes) and signs specifically give hours that cars must be off the streets.

Well personally before parking I would have used my phone (but pulled over first!) to google various definitions of "overnight" all over the world. I would then have called the non-emergency police number to verify with them which definition applied to my area. After that, I would write a precautionary note to stick on my dash detailing my phone call and research results, but check on my car every 5 minutes to be safe.

It may seem like overkill, but I sure don't want to get beat again for my out of line behaviour!!
