In Search of My Body vol.9 - I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

It was one of my new years resolutions to return to the thread, so here I am!
For those of you who might not know, I've had a baby since the last time I was on here, which I think was sometime in March.

I had lost all but about 6 pounds of the pregnancy weight, but since 12/23 I have gained 10 (:scared1:). I'm feeling super puffy so I'm hopeful some of it is bloat and will easily some off with proper hydration.

I'm planning on doing the princess half in March, likely walking most since I have minimal time to train.

Other goals for this year would be:

-working towards a sub 30 5k once i get back to where i was pacewise pre-pregnancy

-losing weight and maintaining somewhere in the 170's.

-reading more books!! i'm hopeful the purchase of a kindle will help with this.

I'll be back later with a picture of the new addition to my family!

OMG! I forgot about the edward awesomeness in my sig! Sigh.

OMG AMY! I forgot about your amazing sig! That is THE. BEST. SCENE.

OMG--look at me...more excited to see Amy's sig than Amy! HA!

Yes, Amy and I made a pact to come back together. Well, more like I forced everyone...:rolleyes1

I'm back too and getting ready for the Princess. Off to catch up!

OMG OMG OMG!!!!

Sorry....just getting caught up! KELLY IS GOING TO START RUNNING! Can you tell how excited I am?!?! Can I be in charge? Pretty please? :rotfl2:

MEG--love the cut! Adore it. Definitely more grown up.

Nancy--your posts are inspiring me. Pounding water now. I *always* have to force my water.

Training--YIKES! I haven't been putting in the miles. My body is going to HATE me. But, I think I can manage to get the training for the Princess done in time if I start with my long run being 5-6 miles this week. Which I should be able to do. I had a great 4.5 miler the other day. So bumping up to 6 should be do-able, I hope. I am a bit stressed because I am going to have to up my mileage WAY faster than I would like.

Basically, my schedule (for long runs) from now till the Princess will look like this:

1/6 = 6 miles
1/13 =7 miles
1/20 = 8 miles
1/27 = 9 miles
2/3 = 10 miles
2/10 = 10 miles
2/17 = 11.5 miles
2/24 = 5 miles for the taper?
2/27 = race day...gives me 10 days since the last long run

Not sure...I will tweak as I go. May eliminate one of the 10 milers so that I can increase more slowly and/or have more of a taper.

OMG! I forgot about the edward awesomeness in my sig! Sigh.

I NEVER forgot about the Edward awesomeness in your sig! :lovestruc

OMG OMG OMG!!!!

Sorry....just getting caught up! KELLY IS GOING TO START RUNNING! Can you tell how excited I am?!?! Can I be in charge? Pretty please? :rotfl2:

:rotfl2:
You can so be in charge - in fact, I NEED you to be in charge!

At the minute I am trying to make a list of things I need, so far I have:

Running shoes
Make an ipod playlist

And thats it! Looking at yesterdays posts I need to think about clothing, sports bras, socks.....:scared1:

Hi!!!

Happy New Year!

I'm back. Training for the Princess starts tomorrow...walking, of course. Amy, are you my buddy this year? LOVE the Edward. Sigh. Maybe we can have a movie-marathon when we are down there?

Goals:
Lose 40lbs by September.
Walk the Half
Track my food
Focus on my family and myself.

Hi! My name is Amiee and I have been away from the boards for far too long. The holidays were full of poor choices, but today is a new day!

Back for more at lunchtime! Miss you guys!

Training for the Princess starts ths week for me as well. I have a training plan given to me by the sports med doc, and hopefully I will get there.

Unfortunately there just isn't going to be enough time to train for this one, including 1 hockey tournament and a week at WDW, so I will be walking it too.

Ok, so none of us are going to be as well trained as we would like! :rotfl2: Amy is post-partum, Kat is post-injury, and Liz and I are just post-crazy-life!

EE--what is your final verdict on the Half?

KELLY--yes, start with shoes. Go to a real running store. Get professionally fitted. All of that.

Bras--I don't care. Ask Kat or one of the other endowed goddesses. :rotfl2: Nancy and I can run braless and no one would ever know... *sigh* Seriously though, I use cheap Champion running bras.

Tops and bottoms and socks - the basic rule for all 3 is NO COTTON. Get moisture-wicking material. Beyond that, go with what you like and what fits and feels good and won't chafe. Mix up short sleeves and long sleeves (same with pants). Top of the line brand is (imo and most others) Under Armour. But it is pricey. We have an outlet here, so I get it cheap and it is my brand of choice. I also run in Nike and Champion. I don't care for the Reebok stuff, but that is personal preference only.

SO EXCITING!

1. Any advise on what or how to pack for this trip? Shorts, Pants, Long Tshirts, Short T****s?

I'd be prepared for all kinds of weather. One thing I would seriously recommend is making sure you have clothes you don't mind casting-off if you get too warm. I'm not normal :rolleyes1 so don't go by what I wear. For the Princess last year I had shorts and a sleeveless tee. I started with a sweatshirt but that lasted about 15 minutes. No hat, no glasses, no nothing. It was 28* and wicked windy out this morning - I wore tights, a long sleeve tech tee and a nylon shell jacket. I did have a headband (not a winter fleece one, just regular ? whatever that is) and glove liners (not real gloves) when I started, but ditched the headband and gloves after mile 2. Not. normal. I know.

Nancy - I am right there with you. My body is holding it's own little strike at the moment. It wants crap and I am giving it fruits and veggies. It does not like that at all. Guess it needs to learn how to deal.

How is today going? Better I hope. My body is slow to adjust, but it will get there!

The meds they gave me are DEFINITELY making a difference. I'm just not entirely sure if it's a good one or not. I'm going to have to see when I start eating my normal food again tomorrow.

.......

I really wanted to start working out this week but I am still having a good amount of pain so it looks like that is a no-go. We'll have to see as the week progresses though.

I'm glad the meds are working for you. Did you get a confirmation of the IBS? (sorry if I missed that). My sister deals with IBS. Diet and exercise are critical to her well-being. Is the pain constantly so bad that you can't even get out for a walk? For my sister, the pain usually coincides with improper diet (tomatoes/acidic and greasy foods - big no no for her) and stress... but the stress is relieved (at least in part) by the exercise.

I don't generally make new years resolutions but this year I have one:

I'M GOING TO START RUNNING.

:woohoo: Look at you go Kelly! You can do it. I know you can.

Shoes? I'm a New Balance fan. It all depends on your feet. Do yourself a favor and see an expert for your first shoes. It could make a huge difference for you.

And playlists? OMG, mine is as eclectic as they come  Everything from Neil Diamond and Marvin Gaye to Kanye West & Eminem

I have learned for these ladies do not wear cotton.

:rotfl2:

Ok, so none of us are going to be as well trained as we would like!

Nancy and I can run braless and no one would ever know... *sigh*

WORD! :lmao:

ummm...well...so far *I'm* right on track  I did 7 miles today. I started inside at the gym and did 2 miles on the TM, then out for 5. It was so windy. Horribly so. I didn't realize just how strong the head wind was until at one point it abruptly stopped, and I stumbled forward a bit. I had been working so hard running into it that I almost lost my balance! Of course, after my graceful near-trip, the wind picked up again and I was back to upright-struggling ;)

My goal for today is once again to track honestly and no alcohol. I figure I need to get a few days under my belt before I can think about anything else.

I am so happy to see Erika, Amy, Amiee and Liz :woohoo:

Ronda and Rob - Happy New Year to you guys! I hope to hear from you guys soon too! :goodvibes

Now, if Lisa would just come out and play :rolleyes1

I only want a cheap sports bra - you are talking to an A-cup! Im sure I could easily go without and no one would notice! :lmao:

Ive found a running store in the nearest City to me which will measure and recommend shoes so I am definitely planning on going there.

Thank you guys for all of the advice and support! Im eager to get started, once I have the shoes I'll be good to go!

Oh, and Im SO glad to see everyone back! E, EE, Liz, Amy - Ive missed you guys! :flower3:

So. I read this post right before my run! 6.2 miles in 58:27! WOOT! I was like, "holy sh*t, Nancy is ON TRACK!" And so I just hauledass. Also, I knew about the wind, so I ran with it at my back! :rotfl2: Feel GREAT!

Day 1 of training = HUGE success!

Oh, and Im SO glad to see everyone back! E, EE, Liz, Amy - Ive missed you guys! :flower3:

Missed you, too! :lovestruc

Wow look at everyone coming back all at once! Welcome back everyone!!

Kelly- I had been running before but I started getting serious about training for a half about this time last year. It was one of the best decisions I've made. I recommend reading Running for Mortals. I find its just helpful to read a story from someone who has been there.

I have a really random mix of songs on my running mix. Country to dance music, to loud rock to music from Glee. Anything that I would listen to while getting ready to go out on a Friday. It's all about finding what gets you pumped.

Nancy- You sound like me with clothes. Although if I wear something too warm I'm not really bothered either. But all of my races this winter I've found that I can't stand wearing gloves for.

Cathie- I hope that you're getting some relief now. At least you finally know what has been causing these issues and things can start to get resolved.

I'm also in the camp of not needing much from a sports bra. I buy the most basic under armour sports bra and I'm good to go. I literally have zero chest when I wear it. I did find the champion sports bras from target do make me feel a little fuller when working out.

As for me.... My 10k on Saturday went ok. I had really hurt my back in hockey last week but decided to run anyways. Well now I have minor back and hip pain. I've been taking care of them and I'm hoping that it's a minor set back.

BUT my mom has said for weeks that this year was going to be my year and so far she has been right. I have a job interview on Wednesday that a woman I babysit for set up for me. Her kids go to the school and it's around the corner from my house. I'd get to walk to work every day!!! I also have been getting very close to an old friend. He and I went to school from Kindergarten to 12th grade together. We reconnected recently and have been talking non-stop. Last night we were on the phone for almost five hours. He lives three hours away but we're both committed to seeing where this goes and having a great time of doing it.

Maybe the haircut was all I needed to turn things around. Here's to a great 2011 for all of us!

I am soooo ridiculously nauseous today. I was the same way yesterday, but thought maybe it'd been all the junk and hoped to be back to normal (for me anyway haha!) once I started eating normal this week....welllll....I'm not sure if I've caught the flu from someone (I don't really have any other flu like symptoms), if it's the meds (one of the side effects is nausea), or if it's something else entirely to do with what's already going on. I have a follow up appointment tomorrow so I'm going to talk to him about it then.

So here's the thing (and sorry it took me so long to explain all this). The colonoscopy wasn't completed. I am remembering more and more from the concious sedation (which I'll NEVER do again), and I was in excruciating pain. I'm pretty sure I remember screaming while crying at some point...I KNOW I was crying the entire time. He couldn't get great pictures from the endoscopy either cuz I was gagging really bad. He said they won't do another unless it's at a hospital under general anesthesia. It's because things appeared normal in my colon but I was still in so much pain that he suspects IBS. However, reading my op report, it also states a hiatal hernia from the endoscopy...but he didn't even mention that. It just seems weird to me. A hiatal hernia involves your upper stomach...which is exactly where all my pain was radiating from, yet he's treating my colon, which is much lower than where the pain was.... so I'm not entirely sure that a diagnosis of IBS is correct.

Either way, I'm asking for some different meds. These things are making me feel like I just drank a few shots and on my way to becoming pleasantly tipsy. I hate the out of the loop feeling. And I can go to the bathroom now...but the problem is I'm going waaayyy too much.

And the thing is with the pain...I'll be fine, but then it'll happen in a really bad wave, and I could be down for a minute, or I could be down for twenty, so I'm really afraid to do much exercise because it seems to hurt less the more still I stay.

And especially with the way my body's been acting yesterday and today, I'm worried to be more than 15 feet from a bathroom.:rolleyes1

So here's keeping my fingers crossed that this new crap is just a flu bug, and that the medicines are working the way they're supposed to.

Aside from that-I've been drinking tons of water as dry mouth is also a side effect, and brought my breakfast/lunch/snacks from home today. Boiled eggs, yogurt, salad, almonds, and an apple. I haven't eaten MUCH on it since I'm so nauseous but at least what I am eating is better for me.... :)

I hope everyone's having a happy happy Monday!

WOW, Busy thread today.

So nice to see every on the board again.

Amy, congrats on your new addtion.

No work out for me today, busy getting the kids ready for back to school.

I think they are hiding under the bed from the bath. :rotfl2:

Have a good night everyone!

Maybe the haircut was all I needed to turn things around. Here's to a great 2011 for all of us!

 Maybe it was! It's a whole new attitude for the new year! Take care of that back though. We want you 100% for the Princess 1/2!

Cathie - yuck. that about sums it up. feel better. :flower3:

Goal met. I tracked it all today, and no alcohol. I burned a ton of calories during my into-the-wind run today. So even though my calories are a bit on the higher side of my range I'll call it a win.

I'm starting to get excited for the race :dance3:
