In Search of My Body vol.9 - I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

Thanks Nancy! I just want to finish the RnR under 3 hours. I won't be devastated if I don't, but that's my goal.

That's an awesome goal. And totally achievable I think. But it's good that you are being flexible about it. So many things can influence you on race day - both good and bad. I'm crossing my fingers for you that everything will be ideal for a fabulous race for you!

And the best news of all... MY DRYER IS WORKING!! (for now at least) I took it apart last night and took the circuitry into work, and they gave it a good cleaning and tested a bunch of the connections. Brought it home, put it back together, and voila!

YAY! Now there's a problem solving woman. You go girl! :thumbsup2

Jo - training plan - I kinda do my own thing, but I am using the same format that we all used to train with for the princess last year. I just have more time, lol.

A LOT more time. And a good base with which to build on! :goodvibes

My cousin passed away.

 I'm sorry Lisa.

I don't know where empathy and compassion is in this world. People aren't born wanting to check out of life. Why does no one seem to understand that?

Sadly I think it's because too many people find it easier to avoid issues than to deal with or admit that their family has any "ugly". Everyone wants that picture perfect fairy tale story.

People are dying -struggling and one billion dollars for security alone.

truly mixed up world we live in, isn't it? :sad2:

Where the he!! is Erika? :lmao::lovestruc

:rotfl: The pipsqueak is MIA :rotfl: She better show herself before we start talking smack about her!

Pictures. :rotfl: Just kidding. Sort of. popcorn:::lovestruc. My God that must have hurt.

yep. I'm waiting on a call from the Dr. to get the results of the x-ray. At this point I don't think it's broken - but it is still majorly swollen and a lovely shade of purplish black. yay me. :rolleyes1

Tapering is no fun.

Tapering always leaves me feeling jumpy and antsy. You are totally going to rock this race Meg. Goddess style :goodvibes

I have the change my outlook. I do have the book, I have had that book for months. I just have not read it yet.

MINUTES. It's MINUTES not miles  OMG now I can see why you were so intimidated! Listen. You can do whatever you set your mind too. Start slow and easy and build up yourself up gradually. I have confidence in you!

Kat, I think I am going to try the 4 min run /1 min walk, but for some reason I thought that was Miles not Mins. DUH! I did better on the TM then I did outside, so back to the Treadmill for me.

Thank you ladies

Haha!! Run 4 miles? Or even 2? Straight? You must be mad!

I am finally at the point where I can run 2 MINUTES straight, and sometime even 3. I started at walk 5-6 min, run 1, and about an 18 min mile.

I really have no choice when it comes to TM for short runs, unless I want to get up before 6:30AM again (which I don't). It was 90 when I left for work this morning at 9:45, and the high here is supposed to be near 100 today.

I really think that if you start now, you can build yourself up with no problems. It's better to start slow and easy, esp since there is a lot of time before the Princess, and work your way up... that was you aren't injured or burned out.

Tapering makes me happy. I'm weird.

Lisa,.

Hi Everyone!

Ok. Did anyone else cringe? Sounds dangerous Kelly. Please be careful!

:rotfl2: I emailed the link to DH before I bought it and said 'What do you think of this' and he emailed me back 'Hmm, a machine that is raised off the ground, that moves side to side with only bungee cords to hold onto when you fall over daily on your own - yes, it should be fine!' :lmao:

Well, I made it through another class. Did some crunches last nifty and I am hating life.

:hug:Hope everything is ok

So today I had a bit of an injury. My hand got smashed between a dresser and a falling bookshelf. :headache: I ended up with an x-ray. I don't *think* it's broken, but it's very swollen, bruised and sure hurts like a mother! :sad1:

:scared1: Ouch! Hope it itsn't broken!

Kelly & Lisa - still watching the World Cup? It's on here frequently. I'm not really paying any attention, but Stephen and the boys are.

Still watching! Work let us start at 7.30am today so we could finish at 2.30pm ready for the 3pm England kick off!

Where the he!! is Erika? :lmao::lovestruc

Lisa - first of all  So sorry about your cousin.
I could have wrote the exact same thing you wrote about my cousin. No picture perfect family over here either

Second - I thought the exact same thing this morning - where IS Erika?!

Morning ladies! Tapering is no fun. Neither is a work week from h*ll.

But my mind set is so much better this week then it had been.

Hope your week gets better Meg!

After watching England progress to the next stage of the World Cup, im going to jump on the stepper!

Hope everyone is having a great day :cool2:

Kat & Nancy thanks for your post.
Having a very bad day, Just got SCREAMED at by IT. (oh the IT guy is the bosses brother) I have never been talked to like that ever in my life, I am still shaking.

Anyway, I saw your posts and they made me smile, thanks

Ok, I need to get this straight. I RUN for 4 mins, then WALK for 1 min?
Or is it WALK 4 min RUN 1 min????? I have been RUNNING 2 miles withouth walking, I walk the first 1/2 mile as a warm up then run the rest.

OMG, whatever you do, don't YELL at anyone to the point you make them cry or shake.

IMO, it can be whatever you want it to be. The object is to be able to cover more time and/or miles without killing or injuring yourself as you build up your endurance and strength. Today I did a 5 minute walking warm up, then 5 min run/2 min walk intervals. Sometimes after my warm up I'll walk the first 2 minutes of each mile then run the rest of the mile. Sometimes I do even intervals where I walk as many minutes as I run (I prefer a 5/5 for that). Whatever *game* works in your head!

Kat is training with a Galloway running group - she can speak more on that than I can, but I'm assuming that they follow his plans much more closely than I ever would on my own. Of course he *is* the expert on this, and I just do what feels good to me ;)

Oh - and Jo. I meant to say that nobody has the right to scream at you like that. And you DO have every right to let them know (calmly) that there is no need to speak to you in that tone and you would appreciate it if it didn't happen again. After all, HR doesn't want to have to deal with an intimidation complaint....

Jo, so sorry you got yelled at. I have been in that environment before and it totally sucks.

As to the run/walk thing. Everyone else, feel free to skip. :)

Disclaimer: I think I agree with most of this, but mostly I really find a lot of motivation in running with a group, and I am slow enough right now that the run/walk thing is really working for me. I have a lot less pain this training cycle than I did during the Princess training.

Galloway, and the training group, suggest whatever feels best for your "short" runs (the twice weekly 2-4 milers, should be ~30-40 min). Some run them straight through, some (like me) try out different intervals to see what feels comfortable for them.

It is the weekly long runs where the run/walk thing really comes into play. We train in the following intervals:
8 min/mi—run 4 min/walk 35 seconds
9 min/mi— 4 min run-1 min walk
10 min/mi—-3:1
11 min/mi—2:30-1
12 min/mi—-2:1
13 min/mi—-1:1
14 min/mi—30 sec run/30 sec walk
15 min/mi—30 sec/45 sec
16 min/mi—30 sec/60 sec

He also recommends: When the temperature rises above 60° F: runners slow down by 30 seconds a mile for every 5 degrees above 60° F. Walkers slow down enough to avoid huffing and puffing.

Because it's so hot here, we usually wind up at about a 14 min pace when doing long runs with the 12 pace group. I actually find it a bit slow.

He claims that you do your long runs for endurance, and your short runs to work on speed.

Our weekly long run half marathon training plan does this (all numbers in miles): 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, and then mostly stays at 10 miles for the longs. They do take you up to 12 and 14 about 2-3 weeks before your half.

I would honestly not go up so far so fast, esp as you have 9 mos to train. I would go more like 3, 4, 5, 3, 5, 6, 3, 6, 7... etc.

Thank you both for the info I am going to play with it to see what works for me.
I can do the short run no problem

I am still trying to recover from IT.
Oh his sister is the boss and his other sister is HR. She did take a statement from me. She could see i was very upset.

By the way, this is all over him wanting to remove Microsoft Office and leave us with Open Office. I feel that program sucks

Have any of you used Open Office???????

Have any of you used Open Office???????

Never heard of it. But then again, I'm Amish.

OMG - did I tell you guys that this gal from town totally and completely thought I was honestly Amish? :lmao: Seriously. My boss grew up Menonite and goes to Lancaster County, PA every 4-6 weeks, so when I kept saying that I was Amish it seemed obviously natural that I truly would be :lmao: She even told OTHER people that I was Amish. :rotfl2: Yeah, she's special.

My hand is feeling better. I'm a little ticked that the Doctor never called me today. She was supposed to let me know the results of the x-ray. I'll probably call tomorrow with a sarcastic "thank you" to her office for their diligence in this matter.

I did quite well with my food today. My water was good, no alcohol, and a decent work out. I'd call today a success!!!

Kelly - congrats to your football team!:thumbsup2

Jo, I use regular MS Office. Some of my coworkers use Open Office and are okay with it.

If you can run 2 miles straight, you are much beyond me. :)

Hi Nancy, umm I mean Amish Princess :rotfl2::rotfl2:
Hope the hand is better tomorrow.

Kat, OMG, I am not beyond you,but thanks. Wish I knew about the RnR race cuz I would of tried to get in gear and run it with ya.

So today SUCKFEST. I am still recovering.
BUT I seen the best sunset ever.

It just stormed like crazy then it cleared and it was like God's ******s from the clouds. Then a rainbow.

I needed to see that after a day like today.

Now lighting again.

Have a great night all.

Yes Day 4 no workout, but who's counting.:rotfl2::rotfl2:
The following is my 5 year old wanting to type:
good night from alexa:cheer2:

Hi gang! Emotionally exhausting day today. Please keep an employee and her adult daughter in your thoughts and prayers. She is having some serious problems.

Hi all. Finally catching up on a bit here.

Nancy- Hope your hand continues to get better. My dad did something similar and the doctors didn't feel the need to call him that day either. In fact he went to the ER and was only seen by a nurse and a physician's assistant, never even saw a doctor.

Lisa- I'm sorry to hear about your cousin. I'm amazed that people don't have more compassion but it does make me appreciate people like you more. (Meaning people who really do feel for others.) I am sending lots of love your way.

Kat- I wish I was enjoying tapering. How did you keep from going nuts? And I'm so happy for you doing the RnR!

Kelly- You were the first person I thought of when I saw England advanced.

Jo- You let me know if I need to come knock some sense into people. Literally. I have no use for people who raise their voices to others. It's useless and does nothing to get your point across. I hope tomorrow is better for you.

WHERE IS ERIKA? I'm about to hop in my car and go to Maine.

So I've been trying to work on what I've been eating. I'm not being horrible but I'm definitely not loosing any weight right now. So with some of my free time during this tapering of mine I've done other things. Like buy a vera bradley bag, a new iphone cover and oh... I've gone on a date. Typical stuff to do the week before a half, right? Oh and I wrote a huge packing list for the one night I'm staying in a hotel before my race. But that's mostly because I wrote every little thing down I'd want so I wouldn't forget anything. I know stuff might happen but I want to prepare so I can make this day as smooth as possible.

Ok off to bed.

EE, hugs for your co-worker :grouphug:

Nancy, EE thanks for posting back to Alexa, I just showed her and she was able to read her posts. So thanks!

Run done, it was a walk/run 2 miles it was a hard one, but I have not run in almost 2 weeks. Last week I did elliptical.

I go a new phone, and HTC, somthing, I guess it like an Iphone, DH put an ap on it call Runkeeper. OMG love it. I am so new to this type of phone. Laugh at me if you must, its ok!!! I love this phone. :rotfl2:

A quick good morning before popping into the podcast. Employee's daughter is out of immediate danger. It is still a bad situation though.

And the good news - I am down .4 lbs.

Kat- I wish I was enjoying tapering. How did you keep from going nuts? And I'm so happy for you doing the RnR!

Well, I am nuts to begin with!

But, I think tapering to me signifies that I have done all I can and I am ready for the race. It's a happy rest period (have I mentioned I live for walk breaks?).

Good luck with your race! Is it Sat or Sun? Do they have a way we can track your progress?

I LOVE that app!! I just found it last week and used it on the Galloway training program run on Saturday!

I have also been tracking all of my runs and workouts on dailymile.com.

Btw, since this is a weight loss thread and all, I discovered something lately that I *love*. Almond milk (Almond Breeze brand)! I am not a fan of soy milk, but the almond milk tastes good, and is only 40 cals per cup. Sarah (remember Sarah?) clued me in...

Yay on the loss EE! :woohoo:

Meg - a packing list is a good thing. I can't tell you how many times I packed, unpacked, repacked my bag for the Princess 1/2  I kept misplacing things :rolleyes1 and yes, they were all in the bag, it's just that I was so frazzled that I couldn't remember!

Kelly - how 'bout that Wimbeldon match?!?!?

It's going to be a scorcher here today. hot, humid and I'll be in the kitchen at work <bleh> Looking forward to hitting the pool when I get home :goodvibes

and, the Dr.'s office finally called this morning to let me know that there is no fracture :thumbsup2 That's the good news. The not-so-pretty news is that it's still swollen, the entire back of my hand, most of my palm and my entire thumb are purplish black. I really did a good job on it
