In Search of My Body vol.9 - I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

Nancy, I know all about scorchers. 101 degrees is the projected high here, with afternoon t-storms. So about 5-6PM, it turns from sauna to steam room. Actually, check that. It's almost 70% humidity, so it might start out as steam room.

Yay for A/C.

Good news on the non-broken hand.

Kelly - congrats to your football team!:thumbsup2

Thanks, and yours! :thumbsup2

So today SUCKFEST. I am still recovering.
The following is my 5 year old wanting to type:
good night from alexa:cheer2:

Jo, I meant to say yesterday I agree with Nancy - you never have to put up with someone speaking to you like that. Good for you for going to HR.

Oh and Hi Alexa :hippie:

Hi gang! Emotionally exhausting day today. Please keep an employee and her adult daughter in your thoughts and prayers. She is having some serious problems.

Kelly- You were the first person I thought of when I saw England advanced.

Oooh date! How did it go!
I thought of you guys too when the USA scored - 92nd minute!!

Kelly - how 'bout that Wimbeldon match?!?!?

I know!! It finally finished 70-68! I was watching it online at work - there ended up being 6 of us round the computer screen!

and, the Dr.'s office finally called this morning to let me know that there is no fracture :thumbsup2 That's the good news. The not-so-pretty news is that it's still swollen, the entire back of my hand, most of my palm and my entire thumb are purplish black. I really did a good job on it

Glad its not broken Nancy! Hopefully the swelling will go down soon!

Goals:
Water - done
Exercise - done
Tracking - almost done!

Hope everyone is having a great day :cool2:

Jo- Did you get the Evo? Did I mention that I'm kind of in love with technology. (Actually I love being in the woods with phone or anything but I also love having the latest gadgets. It's odd.) You'll have to tell me how you like it. Oh I also have runkeeper! I don't use all the features but you can post your runs on facebook with it.

Date details. He's a guy I met on match.com. We went on our first date Tuesday and I've got such a crazy weekend that when he asked me out for a second date and found out I had plans all weekend he asked if he could see me tonight. So I'll wait till after tonight for details.

Kat- If you're nuts that I love people who are nuts! I guess I should be looking at this as a good way for me to take a built in rest, which my body probably needs after all this training. See you're so smart. I've heard a lot from my kickboxing instructor about almond milk. Is it expensive?

Nancy- That's good news about the hand. It will go down in time. (My dads still isn't completely normal and he did it over a week ago now.) It just takes time. I will probably be the same way when I pack that you were packing for the Princess. I will probably end up packing at like 10 tomorrow night and I have to leave Saturday morning so the list was to try to keep me from going crazy worrying about things.

Oh yeah and Kat asked about track progress. As far as I know there will be no way. Here's the website for the race. I usually send out messages to a few friends when I'm done running big races so I'll try to remember to post my results here when I'm done because we'll be hanging out at the after party.

Did anyone see the Italy soccer game today? Heart breaking. I even wore my jersey to work today. Here's hoping the US can pull off a Cinderella story.

Back to work to wake up the kiddies.

You can upload to FB with RunKeeper?? I also registered with DailyMile.com... was wishing there was a way to upload to that too. This week has been sort of nuts so haven't looked into it yet.

I am such a gadget person, but that rather goes without saying. Coming from the girl that takes apart her dryer, wires her house for wired internet, surround sound, etc. Oh, and is a geek by trade.

Glad I could help! :goodvibes You will do great. Also if you post results and such on FB, we can put them over here for you.

Almond milk... pretty inexpensive. 32oz of unsweetened vanilla was $1.69 at Whole Foods (which is pretty $$ generally), so it might be even cheaper elsewhere. I haven't looked for it yet at regular grocery stores or Trader Joe's. It's 40 cals in a cup.

There is some sadness for Italy in this office too.

Have fun on your date!

Hi All

Meg, I got the HTC Hero. still learning it.

Kat, the milk it is for drinking or for use in cereal/coffee and such?

EE, I hope it works out for the little girl. Yay on .4 loss!! Hey its not a gain

(have you noticed I don't talke about my weigh in's :rotfl2: )

Nancy, glad its not broken.

Hi Kelly.

Holly Hot Weather. well don't mean to make you all feel bad , but it was in the low 80's today with a nice wind. Saturday is to be 95 with storms.

and i have yet to figure out how to get to this thread on my phone,
how to get to my voice mail, oh and how to dial a phone # while driving.
:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

I swear I hit every number/letter other than the one I want.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

New shoes alert! Asics gel frantic.

Yay! Asics fangirl over here. Hope you love them!!

My new ($14) men's gel-1140s are awesome. Practically pain-free so far, more so than with the women's version... I think they are a 1/2 size bigger, which could be helping? Women's shoes don't come in a 10 1/2 (or rarely anyhow), so maybe I will be switching to men's 8 1/2 from now on. I have big wide messed-up feet, so the bigger toe box may be helping as well.

Jo, not sure about drinking it. I don't drink milk. I know that it rocks in cereal and coffee, though!

Ha! It did actually hit 101 here today in places, record highs for this area in June. It's supposed to be 91 here Sat, which means a cool spell.

I am doing poorly with healthy food tonight. Today utterly sucked, so I am drinking Bud Light Select 55 and eating dietary junk food.

Food:
B: 1/2 cup fiber cereal (60), 1/4 cup almond milk (10)
L: salad (50), bagel thin (110), 2 tbsp hg salmon spread (50), 4 small strawberries (10)
S: 1/2 cup fiber cereal (60), 1/4 cup almond milk (10)
D: Velveeta 2% mac&cheese cup (180), 1/2 serving ff pringles (35), 1/2 avocado (140), red onion, cilantro, made into guac, 10 guiltless gourmet blue corn tortilla chips (60), 4 bud light select 55s (165)

Total so far, 940.
Exercise, 2.5 miles of run/walk, 30 min, .5 mile warmup/cooldown, 10 min, 100 crunches on ball - 2 short runs goal done
Water, 64 oz.

My son wears an 8 in men's. :scared1:

They felt good overall. My toe rubbed a bit, but I didn't use body glide and I think my toenails are still too long.

Do you have good socks? I only wear cushioned socks. I buy men's because women's are generally size 6-9, and the men's are cheaper anyhow. The only time I have had a blister is when I forgot my socks and did 3 miles on the treadmill anyhow.

No I didn't use good socks. I didn't want to take the time to change them. Completely my fault. I'm so going to Kohl's for a running skirt.

Hi everyone,

Crazy few days at work but am playing hooky tomorrow which is a very good thing. After a workout, I am spending the afternoon in Saratoga with my parents and my sister and then I am off to the bike shop to get measured and pick out my new road bike. I am pretty excited about this and a little nervous since this is a bit of an ivestment. I'll report on the details when it is over.

Meg - getting excited for you and your race. We expect a full race report as well as a date report so get those typing fingers ready.

Nancy - glad yo hear that the hand is not broken. Take it easy out there.

EE - yeah on the new running kicks and whoo hoo on the pain free running.

Kat - I am with youbon the shoe thing. Most of my work shoes are men's since there are limited options for women's construction site appropriate shoes.

Kelly - wimbeldon - oh how I love thee. You Brits know hiw to put on a tournament. I am not a huge tennis fan but I always watch wimbleden. Always. And the queen was there today too.

E - um, have you forgotten us? Hope everything is alright in your world. We are here when you need us.

Lisa - hiw are you doing? Hope all us well with you.

Hi to everyone else!

Off to catch up on some sleep and sleep in tomorrow! :)

Oh yeah - the right socks are a must. I wore cushioned socks once I got up over three miles and what a difference. I had to change socks again after o broke the 8 mile point to one that was even better. I think I spent $15 on the socks I ended up wearing for the princess and they were worth every penny because I had happy feet. No blisters, no hot spots, no nothing.

Socks are so key. I forget who gave that advice (Nancy? E?) but I really think they are at least half the reason that my feet are always happy.

I only buy the kind that have cushions. I tried a wicking non-cushion kind and felt the rubbing.

I haven't spent a fortune, either. Walmart has cushiony coolmax socks, and TJ Maxx/Marshall's/Ross also has them in name-brand versions for WAY cheaper than a Dick's or otherwise. Those stores are also good places to look for cheaper tech gear, including skirts.

I found my running skirt at Old Navy for super cheap ($2.50) but it is now a bit too big. I am going to treat myself to a new one when I hit the 170s.

GOOD MORNING!

It is SO beautiful out this morning! The humidity of the last few days is gone, the air is cool and the sky is sunny. I'm going to attempt a bike ride, although I'll admit that I am extremely hesitant with this stupid hand injury. I think I'll play it safe and only ride on the bike trail where I don't need to worry so my about quick breaking.

Wogged tonight. Pathetic pace, but no back pain.

The pace will come in time. YAY! to the no back pain! :woohoo:

Women's shoes don't come in a 10 1/2 (or rarely anyhow), so maybe I will be switching to men's 8 1/2 from now on. I have big wide messed-up feet, so the bigger toe box may be helping as well.

I too have big, wide feet. I have worn Asics successfully in the past, but I have converted to New Balance exclusively (SL-2 fit. Wide toe box, narrower heel ;)) I have yet to be dissatisfied with a single pair.

Today utterly sucked, so I am drinking Bud Light Select 55 and eating dietary junk food.

"dietary junk food".:rotfl2: such an oxymoron

Crazy few days at work but am playing hooky tomorrow which is a very good thing.

I'm so excited for you and your new bike! :yay: I can't wait to hear what you decide upon!!! Enjoy your gorgeous day off - you have totally earned it!

Socks are so key.

:rotfl2:OMG yes. you have learned well grasshopper :rotfl2:

I have cushioned socks, I have dual layer socks, I have performance socks. I love all of them for different reasons. For my long runs though, I am a 100% dual layer person. My personal favorites are made by Wright. I also have some New Balance which I have a love/hate relationship with. Love the way the feel, HATE to put them on. Seriously. They are such a hassle to get on straight and even - but once they are on? heaven. :goodvibes

 When I say dietary junk food, I mean that I am staying within my calorie limit, but I could have chosen better foods for the calories I am eating and am skimping on fruits and veggies in favor of mac&cheese and guac and light beer.

HAHA on the grasshopper.

All of mine have to have some cushioning involved on the ball of the foot and the heel.

Seriously, though, having you and E and Amy's advice really helped keep things as painless as possible.

Have I mentioned that I have converted almost exclusively to tech fabrics for runs? Can I call them runs, or are they still wogs... ralks... wans...

I am still me, though, no worries. Still trying to find the cheapest alternatives (and still balancing quality, of course). :goodvibes

I'm wearing the new ones today with my dual layer socks. They feel good so far. I didn't wake up with back or butt pain, so I'm happy.
