In Search of My Body - Not the One I Ate... Vol. 6: Goddesses just want to have fun

Funny, we all feel the same thing.

Steph - Marvin goes on a rampage after a bath. I think it's a combination of wet fur and annoyance. We get so tickled whatching him run like a crazy man.

Hi team,

I have a question for you all... As most of you know from my whining last week that my diet got a bit of a shake up this past week. My calorie count at Jenny Craig was decreased by about 200 calories. In short, my afternoon snack used to be 1 serving of carbs, 1 serving of protein and 1 serving of fat and was replaced with a piece of fruit. Jesse (remember he is a nutritionist) is telling me that I need to eat a serving of protein and a serving of fat instead of the fruit since my metabolism needs the fuel. So I am a bit confused as to what to do here.

I am definitely hungry around 4:00ish and could use the snack since I eat lunch around noon and dinner around 6:30 - 7:00ish and that is way too long to go without eating something (at least for me anyways). Jesse told me to eat something every 3-4 hours. So my question is this - what do you do?

I could eat the fruit and add in a fat free yogurt since that is a milk serving in JC land and I am usually shy one milk serving a day. If I do greek yogurt that really ups the protein count (greek yogurt has about 15 grams of protein compared to the traditional 6 grams), but I know I can't eat yogurt every day - I'll get sick of it. FF cottage cheese would work, but that is a protein serving in JC land. If I stick to a protein serving, I need some options since I have not found a low fat cheese stick that I like yet (they all taste really salty to me for some reason). So basically, I need some options here.

Any help would be appreciated...

Hope the day is going well for all of you. I have been catching up on my meeting minutes all day (don't you wish you were me right now?)

Sorry! We were out getting pedicures and having lunch with Jodi and taking the kids to the park!

Paula - ask your JC person tonight. Lay it out for her. Then go from there. That's my advice.

I'm going to go upload pics now. :goodvibes

Ronda - great race report - AMAZING job! I am super impressed!!! I love that you kept your heart rate low - so smart. I did not. Disaster!

So what color did the tootsies get? Glad you all are having such a great time together!

Ronda and Sue are total rockstars....

Ronda! :woohoo:Nice job! So proud of you guys!

Wait a minute...your flies arrive in the MAIL???

Why yes, they do. :goodvibes Totally freaked out the girl at the counter when I picked up my first package of them :rotfl2: She looked at me and said "flies? you ORDER flies? What. You don't have enough already :confused3"

they are tiny predator flies Nancy and I ordered. For our livestock situations. They eat fly larve so you don't have barn flies, house flies, annoying flies by the hundreds all up in your business. Please Lord, this has to work. I can't stand those flies!

They are little microscopic gifts from heaven, in my opinion :lovestruc Miracle workers those predators are. And the best part is they don't bother people or animals. Just larvae. :thumbsup2

Jesse (remember he is a nutritionist) is telling me that I need to eat a serving of protein and a serving of fat instead of the fruit since my metabolism needs the fuel. So I am a bit confused as to what to do here.

It has been my personal experience that weight-loss nutritionists and exercise/muscle building nutritionists don't necessarily recommend the same things. Most likely they will contain basically all the same elements, just perhaps not on the same schedule.

I would, as Liz suggested, talk to your JC counselor and explain to her what your goal is, and ask what she knows about how to eat in order to build & maintain muscle mass. I'd also pose a similar question to Jesse and see what you get for an answer! Perhaps ask him what he would recommend as your daily breakdown and see how the two compare.

Then maybe pick one plan and try it for a week or two and see how you feel?

I think that it once again comes down to personal goals and choices. For me, personally, I need to have a balance of carbs, protein and fat throughout the day in order to maintain my energy & not get nasty dips in my blood sugar.

But do ask Jesse about proteins. and fuels. and where the body it draws it's energy from for various types of exercises. Really. See what he says. It's really quite interesting, IMO.

Okay, race picture posting time.

Here are the two of us (not sure if it is before or after? Liz thinks before):

We are running late for something so will post more later...

Okay, we are home from school pizza night and watching Twilight. Kat's first time. Whee!

Would you like us to do a trip report?

Hey Guys!
So tonight after dinner I told sam to get ready we were going for a walk.... Well she had a friend with her and lets see I lost them after almost the first mile! I walked 3.5 miles. I swallowed minimal amount of bugs! I saw the beautiful sun set. My FINGERS ARE SWOLLEN though! Always happens in the heat when I walk. I felt like disney ! Hot HUMID finger swollen and always stopping looking for a kid! :rotfl2:
be back soon because I have to go pick her up at a friends house!:hippie:

Post the freaking report already! (Lyz's smiley may be toe-tapping, but mine is finger-giving! :lmao:)

Paula--like the others have said, ask JC and see. The thing is, these folks always all give different opinions. And it is maddening trying to figure out who to trust. However, I do agree with eating every 2-3 hours. Something to keep your metabolism working all day long. Even if it is just a couple of raw carrots or something. However, I am a fan of some protein and some carbs at each "feeding." I don't really call them meals anymore, since I just eat several smaller portions each day. And if you are getting hungry in the late afternoon like that, that is a sure sign of not enough protein. If you eat a high protein breakfast, it takes away that late afternoon deprivation feeling.

(Paula, funny, but I was going to ask a similar question.)

Tonight. Ok, so I have a student who is a trainer and who, no lie, has a physique to rival Jillian's. In fact, she just placed second in a fitness body contest (not a body building contest. This contest is for the people who end up modeling in Shape magazine, etc. Fitness bodies. Killer.)

Anyway, after class she and I always talk fitness. It's fun. So tonight she told me that I should be eating 1g of protein for each pound I weigh. If a person weighs 150, they should eat 150g of protein a DAY! :scared1: I might get half of that in. That means like 136/day for me. HOW????

LisaPR? Nancy? How many grams of protein do you eat on a daily basis?

What's going on? Something with Sylvia?

Steph--great job on the walk! 3.5 miles is a great walk! How long? Are you back to tracking? If your fingers are swelling, you need to drink more water.

That one was good.

That'll be even harder for you, given your aversion to meat.

Liz - just, you know, xxoo.

Hi gang...

Um Liz and Kat, I sort of expected to see a trip report waiting for me so get on that would ya... The pics are great though!

Made it to JC, made it to the gym for a proper cardio workout (after two weeks of not doing anything other than strength training) and I feel pretty damn good.

First report time - Lost 2.2 pounds this week and logged in 3 strength training sessions. No cardio though.

I talked to Deb about the mid afternoon snack thing and she did not have a problem with my eating some protein although we both nixed Jesse's suggestion of peanut butter since that is more of a fat in JC land than protein. So we talked about a few ideas that will work into the plan without adding major calories. One suggestion was to do greek yogurt and fruit, cottage cheese, low fat cheese and fruit or veggies, etc. She also suggested egg whites or egg beaters as well as some low fat / lean meat and keep it to one, one ounce serving. I am going to try that for a while and see how that goes. She understood the whole protein and fiber thing and didn't really fight what Jesse was saying.

I need to bring in the JC info to Jesse and let him take a look at it and offer his thoughts on what to tweak. I have been thinking about starting to transition off of JC food for a while now and Jesse offered to help with that so now maybe the time to let him take a crack at it. At the end of the day, a one ounce serving of lean protein is about 50ish calories, so it is not like I am going to break the bank with this little extra. Maybe later it will make a big difference, but for right now, I should be fine. Thanks for all of the info so far. I love learning from you all.

E - 1 gram of protein for every pound? That seems like an awful lot to me. I would basically be on an Atkins like diet trying to get all of that protein in.

Nancy and Lyz - enjoy your flies...

Liz - sending hugs for you and your mom...

Gotta go do some work now. Talk to you all later.

PAULA! You are a machine! HOLY COW! Another 2.2 pounds DOWN! Super proud of you!
