Steph: DON'T CALL!
So I've decided to make Easter dinner a luau.
And, yes, Delena has grown up overnight. Dh and I were talking about it this weekend. Such a little girl now. About makes me ready for another little one. Not quite though.
Hopefully something will come along in the next few months. Of course I am torn because I do love being home with delena and the last 6 months I have had with her at home have truly been priceless. I am hoping to get something part time so I could do both.
SO WHAT DOES EVERYONE THINK DO I CALL OR DON'T CALL. I mean NoTHING would come of this except for I don't know emails about nothing. SO what does one do when they opened a can of worms.
Steph - Don't call. Really. Nothing good can come of it. Reply and say you're super busy, never time to talk, but hope he's well, and end it there. I would unfriend the sister, too. Honestly, he's not an old dear friend, he's an ex.
Amy, we DO need your legs to aspire to!
Lisa, Steph, come on over and wear a grass skirt! We'll pretend to have Amy's legs!
Kelly, I am so glad your husband can travel!!!
It is a new week and things are starting to look up. Made it to JC and while I gained a pound, I am surprisingly OK with it. I ate like a fool this weekend so it was to be expected. Came home, had dinner with my mom and then went to the gym. Gotta get back into the swing of things right.
Run Like a Mother (my personal favorite!)
Hey All,
Anyone want to read a race report?? Lisa V???
So, I ran the Aflac Iron Girl 5K in Clearwater on Saturday morning. Aflac does a series of 10 races and tri's all over the country every year.
Weather: Absolutely perfect. low-mid 60's, not a cloud in the sky.Perfect.
Outfit: Black running skirt, and the tech shirt that came with race registration. Tiara bondi band. I have to have an outfit all planned out, even for just a 5K.
The Race: About 1500 ish runners and walkers. The start of the race was not marked by a air horn or anything, but by the aflac duck yelling the trademark "AAFFLAAAC". Race started out uphill. Flattened out for a bit and then we made the turn to go over the clearwater memorial causeway bridge. This is the main biggest bridge out to the beaches. Ginormous. So we run up it, and I was under the impression that the turn around for the 5K was at the top. Umm, no.We ran down the other side, turned around and went back up. OMG.
I took a walk break at around mile 2, right before the return over the bridge. Legs were on fire. I ran as fast as I could on the downhill. It flattened out again and then there was another hill, albeit small, but seemed huge to my tired legs. Finished in 34 flat. Just a bit slower than my last 5K. I am very very happy with this time though because of the hills, since all of my 5K's have been on pancake flat courses. My garmin says my average pace was 10:50. Holy Crap!! And my first 2 miles were sub 11 minutes. Totally fanatastic. And I placed right around the middle for my age group and overall. I am usually towards the back third. And I was almost 4 minutes under the average 5K time. So happy with the results of this race.

Today is my day to get back on track too. It looks like the vacation damage and post vacation recovery damage, was about 2-3 pounds. owning it and moving past it. DH has gained back 10-15 of his loss from last year, so he is back on too today. And he asked me to make up a workout schedule for us for this month!!
I'll catch up later once Delena goes down for her nap!
Lisa - thank you.
Amy, you are just amazing. I am so impressed with you and proud! Oh, the pride! I hope you feel every wonderful second of it.
And did you all catch Amy's skinny skinniness? Those legs! I might eve run for those!
Kelly, I am so super sorry about your husband. Update? What did they say? Can he travel???
Nancy, seriously, what is up with Erin? Do you think it's something else, some reason she doesn't want to do it?
So this weekend was lovely. And now the sh$te is hitting the fan again. So my parents' trip is being canceled, and she might end up in the hospital again. I just soooo feel for them. This was their 40th anniversary trip. They have talked about Hawaii for 35 years! Always wanted to go, planned this for over two years, and now they have to cancel it. F&ck cancer.
She keeps going, keeps fighting, and it kills me that she doesn't even get this trip. And my dad, too. The two of them, for forty years, hanging on through the good and the very bad. Really, anyone that stays together that long should get an automatic trip! And he's worked so hard his whole life to be able to do this sort of thing, my dad.
But other than that, I'm awesome.
And I know we all have our stuff to deal with, our path, whatever. Look at all of us - each of us has a thing. RA, kidney disease, cancer, Alzheimer's , diabetes, I could just go on and on. And for each of us it's different, we don't know what it's like to be the other person. We empathize, but we still have to go a lot of it alone.
The piddly thing is we might be canceling our drive out to Chicago for Easter, to see my cousins. I just can't go if my mom is in the hospital.
Hi! So I got thru the weekend. It was exhausting, Sandy wore a pedometer and she walked 20,000 steps Sat and 10,000 Sunday, so I did AT LEAST that. Weather was beautiful, crowds were plentiful and everyone was happy.
Liz - I'm so sorry about your momma. You're right, they deserve a trip. Stupid Cancer! Glad you had a nice weekend with J. Do you know what she's having?
Paula - glad you're back. Gracious, what a weekend. Yeah, I was wondering about the "bondis" also.
Amy - I did catch the gams! I'm so jelous! Delena, so cute. Thanks for the race report.
Amiee - Hi! Awful quiet on your part.
Steph - love the pics and thanks for the recipe. I'm making this, like tonight, but I don't have chips.
Dawn - loved your pics too. I liked the sassy green. So sorry for the gal at church! Devastating. And your attitude is awesome. Perspective.
E - glad you had a good weekend. We need to color eggs. I think this year I'm going to drain the egg so I can soak up all the color possible on the shells. I so love colors.
Kat - yaay for the one year lease renewal! Awesome news.
Roddy - I didn't realize how badly you struggled with RA. Thats horrible.
LisaV - the apartment looked awesome. Hope you get it.
LizaPR - thinking of you!
Sunny - great job on the loss. I totally forgot there was a challenge here.
LisaZ - enjoy the quiet, I spent the better part of the morning home, it was calm.
Kelly - your husband! Yikes! You two were meant to be.
Nancy - exhausting weekend. Yes, goat naming. I'll think of something.
Banana allergy? Weird, must be a vampire thing.
Hi to all!
So I've decided to make Easter dinner a luau. We are all going to wear Hawaiian shirts. I just bought a ton of decorations and leis at the party store. I ordered a pineapple ham. I am researching other yummy Hawaiian-like recipes. I am sticking a tub of those frozen drinks I happened to have in my house in the freezer - Blue Hawaii's. I called the best bakery and left a message to order a special 40th anniversary Hawaii themed cake.
Also, bought one of those luau CDs, and darn if those tunes don't make me feel better. So, music. Old movies like Blue Hawaii on the TV in the background. My inlaws and us dressed in grass skirts. The house decorated in a slightly cheesy, over the top, way. This is what my parents will walk into.
Liz - what an awesome idea!!!! I see you house full of flowers and pineapples and all sorts of wonderful things. Your mom is going to be so touched by it all.
Lyz - yeah!!! the show is over and it was a success. You couldn't ask for anything better. Enjoy your rest, but don't take too long. LisaV is getting anxious missing you.
Erika - sounds like you did have a busy day... Good luck tomorrow with Kelly. I'll be thinking of you both tomorrow.
Nancy - I waved to Jesse tonight, but otherwise I had a date with a stationary bike tonight. All went well. Good tunes, good sweat, good times. Say hi to Erin tomorrow for us and I'll be down with my angry eyes if she gives you another story about the calipers.
LisaV - loving the condo... loving it.
Amy - don't hide the legs... they are proof of what can be done through exercise.
Amiee - where are you???
Steph - do not call him... ex's who are in the past should probably stay there.
Stacey - come up for air from time to time. We miss you.
Ronda - how is the running going? Still kickin butt and taking names?
Dawn - pictures??? The designer in me is curious.
Lisa PR - how are you doing with the training? We can't give praise if we don't know how you are doing. Marathon training - still in awe...
LisaZ - Hi!!!! Congrats on the loss.
Sunny - glad you checked in today.
Kelly - how many more days until you leave for Cypress? That is this week isn't it?
Roddy - hope you are feeling better.
Kat - miss you around here. Hope all is well.
I hope I got everyone (need to post a cheat sheet on my monitor). Just kind of chilling tonight and enjoying the fact that I don't have to be anywhere this weekend other than home.
Have a good one,
Paula
Ok, here's the update on my life.
Week-end was great! Considering all of the stress factors in this house, that was a nice surprise. Yesterday we went up to L.L. Bean and bought a new kayak! SO excited to use that. We went with a lake kayak as opposed to sea. That way the kids can use it, too. Riley is already an awesome paddler. So now we have 2 kayaks up at the lake house. I am going to love doing one-on-one paddle trips with each kid this summer.
As for Kel--we will be at the hospital all day tomorrow having tests done. We should have a pretty good idea of which surgery she will need once we get all of the results in. Poor kid. She is SO pissed at the thought of yet another surgery.
Job stuff--we know that Jeff is safe (his company is having MASSIVE layoffs this week--a total bloodbath) and we also know that he is moving to a different job function within the company. And his new job is going to mean major changes for our family. I will tell all once we have the details, which should be on Wednesday.
My injury--started the day at PT. Had an excellent evaluation. The current injury is a pulled hip flexor. Like the hamstring, it is a long, slow, painful rehab. Good times. But the good news is that we seem to have figured out why I got these back-to-back injuries. If you remember, there was no "incident" with either one. No twist or torque or fall or anything. Just started hurting until it progressed to the point where I could barely walk.
Anyway, the PT determined that I have a fairly common condition for women--that my hip muscles are weak. Normally this isn't too much of a problem. But it becomes a major problem when you run a lot of miles. The running has really developed my quads and hams, right? But I have done nothing specific for my hips. So they are very weak when compared with the other leg muscles. And that is not only affecting my gait, but also changes the entire biomechanics of my legs and thus makes me very prone to injury. The two most common injuries? Hamstring pull and hip flexor pull. And lucky me, I got one of each.
I *am* allowed to bike! Phew! So at least I can do something. And he said I can do up to 30 minutes on the elliptical and see how that goes. And of course, I can still strength train upper body. But no running yet. And no core either (since your hip flexor actually attaches way up in your abdomen). So tomorrow I will hit the gym. Won't be until evening since I will be at the hospital all day.
After PT, I headed up to my running store. Spent a lot of time there, explained the whole issue with getting the wide width unintentionally and all of that. They weren't convinced that the shoes caused the injuries, but said it was a definite possibility. Especially since my first pair (the non-wide width) I used for 400+ miles and never had so much as a blister, let alone an injury. I ended up walking out of there with new shoes. We'll see if it helps. Lisa/PR - I splurged and got the Asics Kayanos. Fortunately, they gave me a discount, which they didn't have to do. Still, more expensive than what I wanted to pay. They felt great on my feet, though! This will be my first pair of Asics, which I am a bit nervous about. All of the other Asics I have ever tried, I haven't liked. But I spent a lot of time at the store. It was these or a pair of Brooks. And in the end, these won. Keeping my fingers crossed! (FYI, Lisa--they have a great return policy. You can run on any shoe for a couple of weeks and if you don't like them, you can return them and try out something else.)
Anyway, then I spent the rest of the day up on campus. This is my crazy time of year. The whole month of April is just flat out busy. Classes end May 2nd, so I only have 3 weeks to go, but it will be a hectic 3 weeks.
