In search of my body...not the one I ate! Part Deux... We sit at the popular table!

Hey all - just catching up on a few points i saw on my skim through

Kat - Congrats on all of the job offers, i know you will make the right choice and hope you are happy with the decision you make!

Dawn - I'm glad your lakes are cleaner than ours! Out here our lakes are DISGUSTING! And if you go to the onondaga out by Syracuse, in certain areas you can actually see white spheres near the edge of the shore. That is solidified chemicals from all of the pollution and dumping - birth defects, etc. Yuck!

As far as Carsyn - you are in a really tough place, and i think we can all appreciate that. Being that i'm the ripe old age of 24 (and i've been that old for a whole 2 days now) being 15 wasn't that long ago for me. I was overweight in school, my whole family has always been a bit on the heavy side, and i remember all of the things i would avoid doing due to being embarassed, and i sincerely regret that now. I agree that tying her phone/computer access/friends may not be the way to go, i know i would have rebelled. She has taken the first step and realized she is not happy with the current state of things, i'm sure as a parent that is hard to hear. I would sit down with her and really talk out why she is feeling that way, so her acheivement by working out and eating right isn't just making sure she doesn't lose her phone priveleges, but making sure she doesn't miss out on the great life experiences that are coming up. I dunno maybe i'm not making a lot of sense, i'm tired and having an off day and having trouble putting into words what i'm trying to say. I just know i wish i would have had someone to sit down with me and talk about the future implications of not changing my habits, and the future possibilities if i did. Ok done rambling.

Ok i have to get off of my lazy butt and work out or i won't.

Hey All--

Ok, I will come right out and say it. I am drunk. Totally wasted. Yup. it's true. I am not even gonna proof read this post. I went out with Dan the tennis pro tonight (he is my best male friend, if you remember the whole story). So it was totally fun. We totally flirted all night. And now I am home trying to get some work done.

More later.

Liz...where are you?

And by the way, my long run didn't happen today. I waited all day for my mom to be able to take the girls and it didn't happen. Finally I took them with me to the gym. 75 minutes on the arc and then weights for a while. My mom came half way through and got the girls, so that is how I got in such a long workout. Tomorrow I will try again.

Hi! Sorry I missed the AIM logon. I was catching up on Project Runway.

And now I am resisting the urge to logon. I need sleep, and you, my late night buddies, are something that once started, doesn't easily stop. (Kinda like chocolate.)

Night.

Hi all, I lurk on your board sometimes. I know scary to find out there is a lurker out there...;)

I wanted to interject a possibility for the Carsyn problem. I know I do not know any of you and really am overstepping my bounds here but there is a program called "Girls on The Run" that is in many of the states across the US. You can search on the site for programs near you. They work on self-esteem for girls and not nessarily make them runners but show them that they CAN do things if they just let go of all the negatives. It is really a great program.

Good luck with your problem. My heart goes out to her. My DD13 is a gymnast and has been since the age of 4. She is 5'4" and weighs 130 pounds, all beef. Her best friend is the same height and weighs 92 pounds, no beef. The kids at school call her a freak because of her muscle bulk so, it works both ways. You can be fit and picked on too. No one truly fits a "mold" and if we did, the world would be a pretty boring place.

Off to lurkdom.....:flower3:

It never fails to amaze me when someone says they have been lurking here. I just imagine it's us.

Well, I'm glad you posted. And I'm glad you posted when you saw the need. (and your little powerhouse, being teased. :confused3, people are just...argh.)

You're welcome to join the party, or just lurk from your cave, kinda like Vicki (I havn't forgotten about you Vic.:) )

I find you all very inspiring. You have all come so far and achieved such success. I have to say this is an intimidating thread as you all are very close knit which I also think is a great thing. I enjoy reading your stories daily, triumphs, tribulations, etcetera. I think you all have so much to be proud of!! I think there are many besides the contributors who draw strength from this thread. Keep up the great work!

LISA!

I didn't know that you lurked here! :lmao: Too funny! How was the B to B?? I didn't run it, opting for a smaller race here in K'bunk that day. (The B to B scares the holy hell out of me!)

I love your idea for Carsyn! GREAT advice! Do we have that here in Maine? I would love to have that ready for my girls should the time come.

Erika

We always have room for one more. Seriously, join in and I swear your friendship bracelet is on its way.

This was a wonderful contribution, and I'm so glad you made it. It's a great idea. So stay, and we promise to let you in on all the not-so-inside jokes.

And see? I came back from vacation to post, just for you!

And, Lisa, OMG, you woke up the thread! That's like super special! That slacker EriKa was still sleeping and you got here first! :cool1:

Good morning Erica. B2B rocked. It is such a spectacular race. I cannot believe you let is scare you!! I am pretty sure I am signing up next year. Sign up too and I will run with you so you don't have to be afraid! I finished in 1:00:19 which was about 20 seconds over where I wanted to be. I double tied my chip shoe and did not my other. Water stop 2 I was trying to navigate people and some lunk decided he needed a drink through me and untied my shoe. Such is life in the fast lane!!

Girls on The Run does have some doings in Maine. I am not overly sure where though. I am trying to find info on how to start one in my area as I think it is a very worthy program. There is a lot of stuff out there and I think a movie was recently released regarding young models and self-esteem issues.

Thanks for the welcome from lurkdom. I have a hard time keeping up with the threads that I do in the Events forum so I will still be lurking but surely will not hesitate to step into the light once in awhile!!!

If no one has told you today, you rock!!!! :goodvibes

Lisa Welcome! I just joined into this thread in may .. I think! I don't know... but they are a very welcoming group! I swear they are a great bunch of girls! They are becoming my closest friends!

Liz--no, I was not on a run (yet!) and no I am not hung over! Doesn't happen. :cool1:

Steph--sorry that AIM went wacky on me last night. Seems to happen all the time.

Lisa--awesome time for the race, but that does stink about having to stop to tie your shoe! Ok, next year I will likely run it. I have the Maine Coast Women's Marathon (down in York) in like 6 weeks, so once I get through that one, I will hopefully have more confidence.

Lyz--up early this morning, I see! What's the occasion? :rotfl2:

Tracking....who knew??? :confused3 :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:

This article was on SparkPeople--

You hear all the time that to lose weight, you should track what you eat. Well, a recent study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine shows that keeping a "food diary" may double your weight loss efforts.

Researchers kept tabs on 1,685 overweight and obese adults, who were encouraged to adhere to a reduced-calorie diet and asked to record their daily food intake and exercise minutes.

After 20 weeks, researchers discovered something BIG: The more participants recorded what they ate, the more weight they lost. Participants who did not keep a food diary lost about 9 pounds, while those who recorded their food intake six or more days per week lost 18 pounds - twice as much as those who didn't track any food!
