In Search of my Body...Not The One I Ate.. #4 "Inspiring Others... 1 Tiara at a Time"

Happy Monday everyone!! Sorry, I am tied up for awhile setting up a training thread on another site. It is a lot of work right now. I may have to lay off other things for awhile.

I ate terrible yesterday. Breakfast buffet, who invented those?? I didn't eat again until dinner but I also was so full that I did not exercise. Well that and the cold temps. Erika, I cannot believe you ran. I skied for 3 miles on Saturday and about died!!

So now I am behind in my miles which I hope to make up today, girls to the gym, son to swimming, me general every day stuff mixed in.

I like the tags. I guess I move too fast...lol...

I will keep reading and I will definitely finish up this challenge, although right now I will be happy to get back to the 5 pounds I lost...:sad2: Keep up the great work everyone!!

Hey Nancy, starting on Jan 30, you want to keep me accountable too? Pretty please?

No problem, Kat! I totally have your back! :thumbsup2 Enjoy your vacation...sounds fabulous so far!

FYI - there has been a slight change to my exercise challenge. I am giving up on my swimming class because the teacher's attendance has been so sporadic that I have missed more classes than I have made due to her. So - instead of swimming twice a week, I am going to head to the gym and do a solid cardio workout on the bike when I normally would be swimming. I'll be tracking cardio workouts and training sessions now.

Frustrating that the teacher is so unreliable....sounds like a good alternative plan though! :upsidedow

So this morning I woke up and made myself Kashi strawberry waffles with fresh strawberries and the grade B maple syrup - this is the good, dark stuff, that hasn't been refined too much - and I WANT to track it. Like, I'm dying to know the points value for my meal!!! Crazy Train, whoo-hoo! (4.5 pts, btw, for two waffles, 1 cup strawberries, and 1 tbsp real syrup)

YUM! I love the Kashi waffles. And grade B syrup. Isn't that funny? So many people think that "Grade A" just *must* be the best. Those people don't know what they are missing. :goodvibes

And (who asked...was it Paula?) 4.5 points for breakfast isn't necessarily too much. I find I do MUCH better all around (as far as controlling cravings, keeping my energy level, etc) if I eat more in the morning....

We have some bad weather coming our way today and they will probably end up closing school early.

Hey Amiee...how do you feel about KEEPING that weather there? Please? We're supposed to get the snow/sleet/freezing rain crap tomorrow night and into Wednesday. Honestly - if my kids don't have a full week of school SOON...I'm gonna LOSE it :crazy2:

Oh prayers for one of my friends little girls she is 6 and has cancer and the other night they had to put her on a ventilator she isn't doing well. Poor little thing her lungs filled with blood. Please keep her in your prayers. Her name is Christina.

Steph, that's awful. :sad1: Of course prayers for the little angel

I know! That Kelly is rubbish at doing her job. Hold the phones, thats me! :crazy2:

:lmao:

So, I am filing for a 1.5 hour extension on my C25k.:flower3: DD woke up 1.5 hours EARLIER than she normally does. She can't be in the room when I TM, since she will try to get on it! :scared1: And my back up plan would have been a wog the C25K, but she has a doctors appointment this morning. I will C25K when she goes down for a nap after lunch.

Well...since you asked so politely and all :rolleyes1

Catch you after nap time then. :thumbsup2

Breakfast Buffets. They are the work of the devil.

I'm SO GLAD IT'S MONDAY! The kids are in school....:cool1: ...no odd appointments scheduled...nothing until 3:30! Had a killer workout this morning. Intervals of TM and strength...got my plan for todays meals all worked out - I'm going to ROCK IT today! :cool1:

Go Nancy...

Love it when people are on and feeling confident.

Just a drive by to read. Steph will pray for your friend's little angel.

Talk to you all later,
Paula

Kelly - you so crack me up...

Lisa PR - sending you hugs :grouphug: hang in there girl... those five pounds are on notice.

Hey girls.

First thing..C25K is DONE! It went ok, just a couple miles in about 26 minutes including my warm up and cool down. I had hoped to crank up the TM to the I feel like I am going to die speed for the running parts, but I had a pain in my hip that hurt during the runs, so I didn't go any higher than 6. (Nancy, look for me to report on this wednesday and friday as well!) Ultimately, I hope that this journey through C25K will help me shave another few minutes off my 5K time. It did last time. I went from 36-37 minutes to 33-34 minutes.

Miss Delena's well toddler appointment went well. She is 36 inches long and 28 pounds. The doctor checked her for being anemic, since her eating habits are not great, but her iron was normal. She did get 4 vaccinations. :sad2: I about cried myself when she got them. She is already napping. They usually make her sleepy for a day. Next up will be an appointment with her urologist.

What are everyone's favorite snacks to make for Super Bowl, if you watch it??
superbowl is in Tampa this year! I had hoped to volunteer but the spots filled up so quickly. DH is so excited because his new TV will be here by Sunday. It is ginormous. Probably too big, but I'm sure I will like it once it is here.

Liz: I love grade b syrup. I really don't like the A much at all. I so cringe when I see people using fake stuff. I'd much rather use less of the real stuff than the fake. My dad used to make his own maple syrup.

Paula, so sorry to hear about your swim instructor. That is super frustrating. But replacing with some cardio is good too.

Steph,Stay warm!!! I probably shouldn't mention that it is in the 70's here and I have my Lanai door open???:rolleyes1

Everyone,

I've been lurking in the background for some time now, and have really enjoyed the interaction you guys share. It seems like a very supportive and accountable group. :thumbsup2

I am married, one DD12, and up till last January or so, I had reached the weightloss and fitness goals I had set. I was very strict with diet and exercise, counted every calorie that entered my body, and had maintained my weight for a year. At that point, I had to deal with a little bit of a health scare -- something came up at my yearly gyn exam, which led to tests and biopsy, etc. All of which ended up with me being okay, thankfully. However, it got me thinking about how life is so short, and we should live it fully. Go for broke. I stopped tracking food at all and basically ate whatever....I'm sure you can guess where this is going. :sad2:

By the end of this past year, I was up about 20 pounds. My clothes were tight, and I was uncomfortable. So I have decided to jump back on the bandwagon for the new year.

I still don't want to track food, because it makes me feel too obsessive, but my goal is to eat healthy most of the time and avoid oversnacking in the evenings. Keep alcohol and other junk food consumption at a minimum. And exercise 4-5 times a week (I've been doing this all along, so I'm not worried).

You ladies (and one gentleman) are very inspirational and I hope I can keep up with your energy!! :cheer2: Thanks!

So end of last week not so good. Most nights it was after 10 before we ate dinner ugh... I hate tax time and doing inventories blah blah blah

Anywhoo... for anyone who shops at sams, we went yesterday and they organic cherry pomegrante toaster pastries. Has anyone tried these and what do you think of them?

Oh and OMG!!! THE TAG FAIRY IS HERE!

I want the tag fairy to tag me SOOOOO bad!!!

What can I say to make her tag me?!

Nananaaanaanaaaa Hey Tag Fairy!!! I'm over here!!! You can't catch me!!! HAHAHA!!!

my to-do list: "see if Amy reported on C25K"....cross that baby off! :thumbsup2 Nice job Amy - be really careful, PLEASE...running "thru" pain isn't always the smart thing to do (listen to the girl who's been in PT mulitple times. :sad2: I'm a s-l-o-w learner!) And I'm going to ask you the same thing I asked Erika. When's the last time you got new running shoes? Training for and running those 1/2's puts a LOT of mileage on them...and while they may look "ok" on the outside, if the INSIDE has broken down....you're gonna start feeling it.

Note added on my sticky. Wed & Fri. Got it. (I'm thinking I'm going to trade my goddess crowns in for a whistle and a clipboard :rotfl: )

Glad to hear Lil' D is doing well! I always hated those shots. DS went for a physical 2 weeks ago - got a shot. His menangitis vaccine for college. When the Dr. looked at me and said "well - that's it. Last one from me.. I've given him all the shots he needs" ...I almost cried  Can't believe how time flies!

CRAP! The bus is here. DD is home already??? :crazy2: Where did my "finally have a day at home alone" go? :confused3

So here is a little bit of the struggle that my friends daughter is and has gone through this is copied from her carepages a great service provided by childrens hospital

Christina Johnson - Born 3/7/2003
Many of you know of Christina’s fight with T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, but you may not know of all the other issues she has dealt with over the years. Below is a rather clinical list of her issues I used when I was trying to get some other institution to treat her after she relapsed from the first Bone Marrow Transplant. (They all wanted a “short” summary of her health history – I added a couple of things at the end).
April 9th 2003 - To Children’s Hospital Boston with Respiratory Syncytial Virus and Very low Oxygen Saturations.
While in @ Children’s:
• Continued intermittent oxygen levels in the low 80% percent range. Low oxygen levels not understood.
• Anemic - 4 blood transfusions- Not making Red Blood Cells - can’t figure out why.
• Obstructive Sleep Apena. Determined by Sleep Study.
• Hypotonia - Low muscle tone in trunk area
• Aspiration of liquids - Put in G- Tube
• Thumb splints - due to inability to fully extend thumbs (has been corrected)
• Left Hospital June 2003.
July 2003
• Discovered Retinoblastoma (cancerous tumor) in left eye.
Aug 2003
• Eye Enucleation (removal) done of left eye
May 2004
• Tonsil and Adnoids removed.
• Discovered Lesion in Brain
• Discovered she had a chiari malformation (block flow of spinal/brain fluid between brain and spine)
• Dicovered she had hydrocephalus. (pressure on brain caused by chiari malformation)
May 2004
• Christina had surgery to take biopsies of the brain lesion and to cure chiari malformation/hydrocephalus. Christina no longer suffers from hydrocephalus.
May 2006
• Christina diagnosed with grade 2 Astrocytoma after 8 MRIs spanning 1 year of observation of brain lesion.
June 2006
• Christina had surgery to remove astrocytoma. 90-95% removed. Christina lost mobility of her right side.
• Christina moved to rehabilitation hospital for therapy for her right side mobility.
• Biopsy of tumor tissue reveals an infiltrating Grade 2 astrocytoma. Chemotherapy recommended.
July 2006
• Christina struggling to recover after minor procedure (placement of central port, eye exam, and hearing test).
• Christina diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (T-cell).
• Christina starts chemotherapy treatment for leukemia. The residual brain tumor is put on the back-burner for now.
September 2007
• Christina’s leukemia relapses in maintenance cycle, near the end of the standard ALL protocol.
• Christina drove the Leukemia into remission with ifosfomide/etoposide routine.
November 2007
• Non-family member bone marrow transplant (BMT) given 11/1/07.
• Released from BMT 1 month post transplant with good counts
• Lived at home for 5-6 months with excellent results (no further brain tumor activities and good counts from clinic).
March 2008
• 3/25/08 Christina’s leukemia relapses again.
• Dana Farber indicates nothing further can be done.
• Maintenance Chemotherapy is used to give us as much time as possible.
• Leukemia does not come roaring back as anticipated. We decided to try Nelarabine a chemo drug specific for T-cell ALL but has some very high risks.
• Christina does well on the Nelarabine. No side effects and has a good quality of life.
• 7/1/08, officially in 3rd remission.
• August 2008, Dana Farber let’s us know that Christina’s progress is remarkable. They are starting to think about offering her a 2nd transplant.
October 28th 2008 – We start our 2nd transplant adventure.

So here is a little bit of the struggle that my friends daughter is and has gone through this is copied from her carepages a great service provided by childrens hospital

Now that just about ripped my heart out. :grouphug: Yes - prayers for little Christina, and her family...and the medical staff who have done, and hopefully will continue to do, amazing things for this child.

Zig - WELCOME!!!!!!:cool1:

Nancy - glad you had a good day!

Amy - My first day of couch to 5K is in about 2 hours...I have planned on starting...ended up walking every time...so today is the day...Carsyn, Dan and I will all go...new time schedule all worked out so commitment is not a problem! Since you have run so much in the past....was it too easy for you...? Just curious how you compared it to your races...:confused3

I am also going to measure myself tonight...when I was very successfull a fe years ago and lost 50 pounds...I was meausred once a month for loss...and I found I lost inches more than pounds at a high rate with working out...

I had yard ribbon cut to represent the amount of inches lost..watching that ribbon get longer and longer was very inspiring...I forgot about that until today and thanks to LisaPR for that...:flower3: I thought I would share since some of you might like that idea as well...

I would put the new ribbon onto my keychan...and also tape another one on my fridge...it was a visual for me that on days where I felt I was not getting somewhere and when I cannot see past what I currently weigh to the acknowledgement that I have had some success...it was a great tool...

Steph - so sad...I pry for her family's strength...

Steph, Lots of prayers for that little girl and her family. My family has gone through something similar when my cousin had a brain tumor at less than 2 years old and again a year or 2 later. So I know how horrible this is. (my cousin is almost 17 years old now, so she did beat the cancer)

Dawn, C25K was NOT easy the first time I did it a year ago, but I was starting from nothing. This time through I am using it to structure my runs and hopefully shave some time off my 5k! (Sub 30 here I come!)

Nancy - glad you had a good day!

You know what would make my day even better??? :confused3

I think someone is missing a homework assignment....:rolleyes1 You told me to ask...so I'm asking. Where is it....hmmmm???? :confused3

Don't need all the details....daily totals will suffice. ;)

Doesn't it feel AWESOME to start something like that...something that's really and honestly HARD...and to conquer it? It's so empowering. You, my friend, are a ROCK STAR :cheer2:

Yes...ma'am...
Okay - so far today I have had 392 calories...I will look up the ones I missed and post them with my totals for today later...

in looking up green bean casserole calories....found this website...not sure if any of you found it for lower calorie options for some of our homestyle foods...interesting website....

Painting my office tonight for upper body workout after my attempt at running...ahemmm....cough...sputter...:scared:

Thanks, Nancy! :goodvibes It does feel awesome and I count it is one of the athletic achievements I am most proud of since it is like the only exercise program I have ever completely finished Start to Finish. And thanks for the shoe reminder. I got them in october, about a month into my half training, but I did a rough estimate of my miles on them, and I am guessing at least 200-250. Counting races, training runs, wogs with Delena and some long days at some theme parks. The model of ASICS I use just came out with their new 09 model, so the 08's are about 1/2 price!

:welcome: to the new people!

So I told everybody about my run yesterday and I forgot how sore evrything gets:scared1: I plan on going on a bike ride in a little bit but I do have one question. My hunger is like out of control today did any of you expierence this when starting the C25K? Also how did you curb it?

:confused3

A big hello and welcome to our new folks... :wave2:

Glad you could join in on the fun. Jump right on into the conversation. It truly is the easiest way to get to know this bunch.

I am caught up on reading and sounds like everyone is having a good day. Steph - I am praying for Christina. What a trek that poor little angel has been on so far.

I am off to the gym to get a cardio workout on the bike in, but I'll be checking in later.

Paula

PS - JC weigh in results: I lost .1 pounds. Not much of a loss, but it is not a gain, so I'll take it.

I just try to fill up on water, veggies, stuff like that when I go into feeding frenzy's. It doesn't happen so much anymore for me on the shorter runs, but it sure does after longer runs.

Erika, LisaV, LisaPR,Nancy might have more suggestions.

Quick Weather Update (before I catch up) ~

We are expected to have up to 12 inches of snow by Wednesday night. :scared1: That should be against the law! I mean seriously.

But the good news is if we get 'stuck' at work, we are housed in Casino Aztar just two blocks away with a meal allowance.

Well, off to catch up.
