In Search of my Body...Not The One I Ate.. #4 "Inspiring Others... 1 Tiara at a Time"

My husband took us to Applebee's and I was so good I couldn't stand it! Had to come and spill my smiles with you all (hubby doesn't quite get it!) I had water and the chicken in garlic sauce --- only 7 points and it was very good!!!

I was good last night too at Cheescake Factory. I had the "Weight Management Chicken" - can you believe it was REALLY called that on the menu. Nothing like calling attention to the fact you are fat. gulp, "yeah Paco, I'll have the Weight Managment Chicken." - BUT it took so long to get our food to us we got free chessescake. I got the key lime. So I guess I wasn't good afterall. (it was $8 cheesecake, kwim?)

They are just watching tv. One of them is real tired. It might not be too bad. I am super tired, so that may help me fall asleep. Did I mention one of them brought a copy of twilight, so if all else fails, I'll watch on my laptop. They are having a good time. They swam for 3 hours and it wore them out.

Good morning everyone and happy MLK day. I hope all you lucky people have the day off, cuz I don't....:badpc:

I got in 3.42 miles yesterday. It was slow going and a lot of work but at least I did something. We have 12" of fresh powder. I think I was doing the wrong kind of skiing!!!

Here is the last week of tips for the Jump Start program I have been giving you. This one is called "Think Yourself Thin"....if it were only possible....

1. Flatter yourself. Women who see themselves as heavier than they are have a harder time maintaining weight loss after a yaer. Everytime you catch yourself saying something negative about your body today, write down a compliment and repeat it 10 times instead.

2. Find a release valve. Stress can mess with the scale in 2 powerful ways. Tension and anxiety activate your body's fight or flight response raising levels of cortisol. At the same time, you seek out high-fat and high-calorie foods for their soothing effects on the brain. Rely on a strategy you can employ at any time to tame tension. Take a walk, breathe deeply, listen to your favorite song, call a pal, watch a zany YouTube clip or laught at a post on a funny blog instead of stewing and snacking.

3. Catch some shut-eye. People who get 5 or fewer hours of sleep per night are 55% more likely to be obese than those who log 89 straight according to a review of 45 studies published in the journal Sleep. Sleep deprivation may increase your output of hunger hormones, turn off your fullness hormones and bring on cravings for foods such as sugary carbs, whic perk you up.

4. Slow it down. It takes about 20 minutes for satiety signals to set in. Eat your meals in courses and keep the serving dishes in the kitchen or away from where you dine. (The bariatric center where I work instructs people to always eat your protein first--just another tip).

5. Lose the guilt. Eating is not an exercise in morality nor should it mark your success or failure. Let go of "good" and "bad" foods and separate eating from emotions. You'll be happier and healthier. Try not to judge your choices. Instead, pamper yourself wtih a movie or a manicure.

6. Put bargains on ice. Cash may be tight but avoid trimming from the grocery budget. People who spend more on food tend to weigh less because nutrient-rich veggies, fruit and lean meat cost more then empty-calorie choices. To save cash and eat well, fill your freezer with healthy bargains. Stock up on frozen veggies and fruit, they cost less than fresh but pack as many nutrients.

7. CELEBRATE. You did it. Congrats. your mission today, revel in what brings you joy. Have a fun night out, get tickets to a concert, or treat your new body to a spa day or beach vacation. You deserve a little reword for doing right by....you!!!

I hope these have been helpful to you. If you can pull just one little thing from them that works it will be worth all this typing!!! I know I have learned a lot. It said in the beginning that these changes weekly along with adding in strength and cardio every other day (alternating the two) you could drop 8 pounds in the 4 weeks. I have lost 4 so I call that a win!!! I hope some of you have benefitted too!!

My treat....I am going to the Rock N Roll Virginia Beach half marathon in September and besides my running clothes, I am packing 2 bikinis....yep traveling light!!!! :beach:

Good Morning,

A little late start for me ~ got to sleep an extra hour since the kids don't have school. Better than that, we get to dress casual because it is a bank holiday!

Hope everybody has a good day! Chat more tonight.

Slow morning! :rotfl2: It's ok, the thread has been on steroids for weeks! :lmao:

Off for a run now (plus core), and just hanging with the kids, etc. for the day. Lots of new snow for them to play in.

Happy Monday! You know me and my Mondays! :goodvibes

I am working today... it toally sucks since everyone else has the day off. It is going to be a long and torture like day until I can leave. On the plus side - I do get to train tonight.

Oh - 6 miles in 25 minutes yesterday on the bike... gotta get my cardio in and my time on the bike in if I want to be ready for my race in July. Of course, I bought the padded bike shorts, but did I remember to wear them yesterday - nope...:lmao: duh...

Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday and for those of you stuck working when half the nation is not - I feel your pain.

Paula

Depends on how you define "day off"..:;) I don't have to work. But the kids are home....DS still has track practice, so I have to run him back and forth, DD has voice lesson, I have drama club rehersal.....not really going to get much of value accomplished today I don't think. :sad2: Oh grocery shopping. That'll get done. :thumbsup2

Love that tip especially. Sounds SO much like LisaV ::yes::

Jena - congrats on the puppy. (I'm starting to feel left out. :confused3 not really....I'm good thanks :goodvibes )

Lyz - are you alive? Did you get any sleep last night? :crazy2:

ummm....'scuse me? :confused3 Did I miss something somewhere? Or has my alcohol-free brain started to forget things... What is this race of which you speak?

I am thinking of doing a bike for MS race in July. The options are a 10, 30, 62 or 100 mile run. I am thinking the 30 or the 60, but it will depend on what happens when I take my training from the bike in the gym to the open road (with real hills and such).

I thought I mentioned it a while back. Maybe I didn't...

That was AMAZING. Forget the KIDS. I want someone to do that for ME :goodvibes

I KNOW! I'd love to do that.

AND. So that I wouldn't have to listen to it calling me....I had one last glass of wine....now it's gone. And there shall be no more for a while.

:cheer2: Good job.

I missed somewhere along the way that you worked for a bariatric center. Interesting.

That's were I slept. (cause I was too cheap to get another room) Well, that's not the right word. Drifted in and out of conciousness. They were up all night. Talking and watching tv. I put my earplugs in, but I could still hear them somewhat. I remember waking up every couple of hours, and at 4 they were really reving up. Loud, cackling. They even made coffee in the little pot. I totally missed that. It was to keep them up longer. :bitelip: At 8 this morning I woke up to quiet except for the texting furiously happening beside me. 3 of them had fallen to sleep around 6:30, but one was still up and I guess had lots to say to someone:confused3. I'm now at the office working and Molli is sleeping at grandmas. They had a good time and I'm not too worse for wear.

Sorry, I work for a hospital that has a bariatric center. I do a lot of the typing for them. I guess I mislead you there. My bad...:flower3:

Still haven't gone for my run. :scared:

I planned on going to my parents, dropping the kids there while I ran. Well, I got there, and they were totally snowed in--still. Jeff plowed them out yesterday, as always. But then we got more snow last night and of course the town plow had left that big pile at the end of their driveway. So I had to get out the snowblower and get them out. It took A LONG time. There is so much snow now. My front yard is literally at my waist. The kids are having a hard time playing in the snow b/c it is so deep for them. We had to snowblow paths around the house so that they could get places. :rotfl2:

Once I had my parents cleared, they had to leave for an appointment, so I guess I will have to wait until Jeff gets home. Which means the gym. Which means the TM. And it is finally warm enough to really enjoy and outdoor run! However, I will get a run in with the girls shortly. Another 2-miler. So that will just be a bonus run. :thumbsup2

Liz? Kat? Amy? Kelly? Everyone else?

Actually....I'm remembering it now. I'm in a fog. Too many "bodies" in my house :scared: We have an MS ride locally as well. I think our options are 25/50/100. I have to look into it....

You, my friend, are a saint! Glad everyone had a good time.

Hey all..I am here. Just busy doing stuff around the house. DH is home today so I am taking advantage of that and doing things that are hard for me to get done when I am here by myself with DD.

We had a great day at buschgardens yesterday. Beautiful weather, free beer, and not too many people. We couldn't have asked for a better day. Also got lots of walking in. :cool1:

Also went to a strawberry farm and got a whole flat of berries and a TON of other fresh local veggies for under 30 dollars! I will be out later to get jam making supplies. Of course we also had to get the strawberry shortcake.

I am NOT feeling the running thing, a little burnt out I think. But there is a local half I really really want to do at the end of Feb, so I need to get my butt in gear. DH and I had money set aside while ago to get bikes and we held off on that when I lost my job, not knowing how much my unemployment would be. But we are doing okay with it, so I think we'll get the bikes soon. Something different to do. We have a great system of bike trails where we live. And this is a great time of year to bike here.

I WILL catch up later.

Amy

Hi Gang. I'm here today. Hope you are all well.

Lisa PR, loved your list this Monday. I need to stop calling myself a fattie. Fo shizzle. Kwim?

OMG. Crickets. Chirp. Chirp. Chirp.

Come on lurkers, come out and play! Newbies? Oldies?

Anyone?

I'm here!!!!:flower3: :flower3: :flower3: Yeah, Liz is here.

Hi!!! It's you and me, huh? So, how's things? Are you feeling less sad about the condo? Is anyone buying it? How's your mom and dad's house? What are you doing for working out now that your beloved free gym is not downstairs?

I'm sort of here too...

Trying to finish my race report so I can post it and am starting to poke around for a job a little bit.

I am in a funk about my running so I'm trying to get through that too. This happened after the last 1/2 too, so it will pass soon.

I have some outstanding news. Background: Jean and I met working at a high school. We were both Educational Assistants for LD and behavioural students. It was a tough school. Great for me because it was just after university and the lack of boundaries from them formed mine quickly. :rotfl:

Anyway, this was years ago. She started there in the late eighties. Me 1994 at that school.

Jean left to look after Mama and start her own business about five years ago. She was offered a buyout so it was a win-win situation.

Anyway, her business is fine but not enough so she got a job as Director of Camps and Clinics for who everyone told her was an a$$hole. And guess what he was. One day she came into work and decided he only wanted part time employees.

So she got another position in our board of ed but had no seniority because of leaving and we, my board too, are highly highly unionized. So her boss couldn't do anything when she was bumped although he loved her.

So two of her jobs poof in two years. That has been very stressful.

So I told her leave our board. It's bumping, bumping, bumping because of closing schools - declining population.

She got a permanent position today in another board. Had the interview today. Said they had more to interview. Will be interviewing all week and will phone on Friday. The superintendent phoned two hours after the interview to offer her it. Permanent, benefits (for her since we're not together:sad1: ) and she's a mobile behavioural EA. Which is great since the superintendent is her boss. He said he called because of her resume (which is like gold for this kind of postion) and interview.

So she still has her business but this relieves so much for her and for us since we still pool money and my work has been keeping us above water. And my work - being supply - can be Christmas and then barren.

So happy for her. So relieved. Relieves so much stress. Just relieves so much stress. So thrilled for her.

Now, I should change boards since my position has so much redeployment as well.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. A good day. A good day. It's been a long road.

And tomorrow - my niece is singing during the inauguration. Her choir. She's not solo. :rotfl::lmao: So excited for her. My American niece is case you're wondering and if you are Nancy afraid to ask. Colombian mother, Canadian father = American niece and nephew. America! America!

I told you we call you the States, eh?
