In my humble opinion....which DVC resort has it all

We are DVCers since 1995 and have only stayed in the WDW resorts so we cannot comment on HHI and VB.

My husband and I just returned from 15 nights in OKW (where we own but hadn't been back in a couple of years). We are recent empty-nesters and didn't have our children or young grandbabies with us on this trip. Also, we fly down from NY and usually don't rent a car when in WDW, using only WDW transportation.

We completely fell in love all over again with the OKW one-bedroom villa and its lovely balcony complete with table and chairs overlooking a delightful waterway with a golf course view. Wow!! We are now back home and really miss waking up to the numerous ducks, birds, squirrels, etc. just outside our multi-windowed villa. It was truly delightful! We had breakfast by the pool each morning on a table overlooking the canal, and then spent a couple of hours enjoying the lovely pool. Afterwards, we returned to our villa with purchases from the General Store and took our time getting ready for our late afternoon/evening visits to a park or other Disney hotel/restaurant. As you can see, we took it slowly this year without the children/grandchildren and were so very relaxed and content.

But, after three prior visits to the BWV and BCV resorts, we have to admit that the Epcot area DVCs have a much greater choice of restaurants, and we especially enjoyed the boat launches while we were there (the launches seemed like a "ride" in themselves to us with lovely vistas along the way). We found the studios and one- and two-bedroom villas to be OK; not grand in any way (haven't been in a Grand Villa at BWV yet.) We have also stayed in the Wilderness Lodge (not the villas) when it first opened and "loved" the theming of that resort but found the bus transportation to the parks and other hotels to be a little cumbersome (except for the boat to the Contemporary or MK).

What I am trying to say, and what others have said, is that there really isn't a "DVC best resort" in my opinion. But the choices as a DVC owner are superb -- we really have it all. When we are with a large-family reunion, OKW may be our first choice because the group dynamics make for its own entertainment when in the spacious villas there. When we are with one our our grandchildren, we may opt for the WLV and its proximity to MK. When we are alone, we may opt for a studio at one of the Epcot-area resorts! Can't wait to begin planning for our next-year's trip to the World. Definitely content to be a DVCer!!

Sounds pretty much like what my wife and I do, except we have a car and we go to the parks in the AM for a couple of hours and then head back to OKW- going out later to eat at one of the many choices you have at WDW. You might want to consider driving down from NY sometime, that way you have your car. I find the airlines situation just too much to take anymore. Just to give you an idea how restful OKW can be, I just sat by the boat dock one evening watching the sun go down for about an hour. It was January, the temp was about 65 degrees and it felt good just to do nothing but enjoy the sights and the warm air after the winter we had up north. Another nice thing to do is take a walk to the West Side from OKW, of course the boat ride is great as far as I am concerned. We will probably give BWV a shot in the future just to be able to walk to EPCOT and MGM plus being able to walk to all those nice restaurants must be nice also.

Very well said.
There are many reasons to stay at each of the DVC WDW resorts. This idea of saying your choice of resort is better for this reason or that reason and to assume that applies to every DVC'er is ridiculous. We have our favorite for our own personal reasons. Some of those personal choices don't apply to other members. But they apply to us so and thats the only thing that's important.

What a nice report! I agree totally. I'm a new member and haven't even darkened the doors of any of the DVC resorts yet, but I feel so fortunate just to be a member. The resorts are all wonderful for thier own reasons and I can't wait to experience them all.........many times over!

We alternate stays between OKW & BWV because there's things we love about both. OKW works great for our May trip because it's more laid back, it's great to have a more relaxing place with extra room, have the car right outside. BWV works great for our December trip because we like to be right in the middle of everything, easy walk/boat to Epcot for the Christmas activities. I don't think I would have bought DVC if it was only 1 place.

hey from 92 to 95 it was one resort - OKW and it was wonderful - I miss some of the stuff that they did - (free tickets for one), the front desk would make an extra effort if you were a member - you had your own check-in area, the villas had little things - a book that told you where everything was and how to use it (even how to record on the VCR), the backs of the chairs and the softer seats, the table stuff - napkins, place mats, etc., salt shaker with salt in it -- just the little things that DVC did so well when OKW was called DVC.

when something was wrong - maintence was there almost before you hung up - on those were the days........

I was told by several people that when DVC (OKW) first opened they stole the very best of the best from the other WDW resorts - the service was so excellent.....

then BWV opened....

of course I still love OKW - but there is a reason to try the other DVC resorts. if we were treated as we originially were I don't know if I would have.....

This is percisely why we waited for additional DVC properties to be built. We enjoy the variety. Each resort has it's niche, and we can not wait to stay at all 4 (soon to be 5) onsite DVC resorts.

What a lovely post! I love taking it easy at OKW as well and I am always so glad that we are a part of DVC. I feel my blood pressure going down several notches as soon as I see the Welcome Home sign! It is my favorite spot on earth and I enjoy it tremendously.

I too miss the free park tickets and a few amenities that have fallen by the wayside, but I've never regretted for a moment the decision to purchase into DVC. It was our gift to ourselves and our family and it keeps on giving us endless pleasure.

I leave on Saturday for my next visit home and I am so excited!

We enjoy going to OKW and doing nothing!!!!!
For us a vacation just means leaving HOME.
We dont have to rush and do the parks, or anything. We take our time everyday and enjoy being away from WORK.
Im glad we have all the options that we do.

We too enjoy the unique qualities of each DVC resort. Very often our family stays at multiple resorts during a vacation. We don't mind the packing and unpacking.
If I had to pick a favorite resort I would pick OKW. With many past WDW vacations under our belts, we go to the parks only for 3 - 6 hours and relax the rest of the day. OKW seems to fit our family plans the best.

We have been DVC members for 5 years and it keeps getting better every year.We feel it was the best puchase we have ever made. Even if we don't make it
