A few of us were talking tonight and we thought it might be a good idea to honor the events of Sept. 11 from four years ago tomorrow.

Please wear your red white and blue (any combination-don't forget safari hat is white!) clothes tomorrow!

Show the love, people!

Also thetitan and I are organizing memorial services every other hour from 10:30 EST to 8:30 EST. These will be a remberance of the lives lost, a (with hope) a source of hope for a positive future, and a moment of silent reflection.

I would encourage you to come to one of our ceremonies. I will be hosting the 12:30 EST (9:30 PST) ceremony and would love it if some Dis'ers could come by for that.

We're asking for complete silence from the crowd, meaning only the speaker will be talking. Right now, we're looking for some people who can speak for the ceremony and are looking for people who will take this seriously and not politicize, or trivialize the ceremony. Please IM me and I will get in touch with thetitan who is also taking down names from other VMK message boards.

Tomorrow I will post which instance we will keep open for the ceremonies. I would hope you will all come.

Thanks Fly for adding that, I didn't know all the details yet. :)

Come on people now, smile on your brother!
Everybody get together!
Try to love one another right now! :)

(I feel like i need a halo of flowers in my hair)

If you're going to San Francisco...

be sure to wear some flowers in your hair...

ooooooooookay I'll stop now. :)

I'm in! I will never, EVer forget that day.

DS1 was just 2 months old, cradled in my arms as I paced back and forth between our living room and kitchen, from TV to TV. Watching the news, knowing we were under attack (and living just outside of Boston), but not knowing where the next strike would be.
Scary, scary stuff..

My thoughts and prayers are *still* with those who were affected on that horrible, horrible day. :grouphug:

We were on our honeymoon in Hawaii...by the time we woke up everything was all over.

but at 3am (which was 9am Ny time IIRC) I shot straight out of the bed...

I almost turned on the tv. but didn't.

Once we got up, J turned on ESPN only to see the buildings on fire (a replay) and flipped stations in case he had the channel number wrong. That's when he said GET IN HERE! (I was making pancakes)

The rest was history.

Anybody else want to share where they were or what they were doing?

i would like to speak, if that is ok, probably sometime later, areound 9:00 eastern or so?

We were at Disney at Epcot. Just had finished riding SE before the evacuations of the parks started.

something I will never forget :grouphug: and returned to our resort and watched everything unfold :grouphug:

I was at work, we were having a breakfast to celebrate "kids back in school and Mom didn't lose her sanity" when someone came pushing a cart with a tv on it down the hall saying we had to see the news. We turned on the tv a couple of minutes before the second plane hit. One of my coworkers lost two members of his family in the second tower.

Let me know when and where. Also if anybody needs any help.

I willl. If I can log on this time. oh and the special event was it for September 11? or my birthday:p

I had just dropped ds off at school then went for groceries. I got home at 8:30 and turned on Good Morning America to catch the last of the news. I saw what I wanted to see, so I walked towards the tv to turn it off, and there it was. News showing the 1st plane going into the trade center. I called my aunt and inquired about our friend in the secret service who works there. She did some calling around and found out that he was in Washington that day, so he was safe. Turned out that he was teaching a class on terrorism, how ironic.

I was at school and our teacher told us. I started to cry because I thought how can they do this????? We are such nice and kind hearted people. But on that day it just proved to many americans how cold soul and have no heart people those are that could do this to us.

Great idea shorts.

As someone who has lost 18 people i have known (no family so i guess that is a blessing) on that day, it's still a tough day for me. But i can only imagine what their families are feeling today. :guilty:

Prayers are with them, and with our men and women overseas. :grouphug:

It affected my life a lot.

I was working for Air Canada, and didn't find out until I got to work that morning. They put TV's in the hangar so that people could watch. We saw the buildings go down live. Soon after that we were informed that they were shutting down the air space over all of North America. All of our planes were grounded and we were told to expect many US planes coming in from overseas. In Calgary, we had many foreign planes parked on the taxiways and runways for several days.

On a more personal note, my husband is a pilot and left to go flying early that morning. He had accidently left his wallet and jacket in his office before he left, but didn't really think it would be a problem, as he was planning to be back before lunch. He finished his first leg and had just taken off on his way home when he got the call on the radio to return to where he was. He was stuck for four days without his wallet, his jacket, or a change of clothes. He also had an airplane and many passengers to take care of. Luckily many people were absolutely generous about him being stuck, and he was able to get a hotel room, buy some clothes, and of course eat. For me, it was a lonely and scary time until he was able to return home.

It has changed both of our lives because the airline industry has never recovered from those events. We were in New York two years ago, and made a trip to Ground Zero to see the place where it happened.

My thoughts are with our dear friends in the United States today.
