In Every Run That Must Be Done; There is an Element of Fun (comments welcome)

35 Days Until: TC Loony Challenge

It was a little humid for my run today, but I got through it. I had a few muscle twinges that made me skip some run sections in miles 6 & 7, but they passed. Since I was feeling better, I decided to go for a strong finish on the final mile.

I did take a few minutes’ break on a bench toward the end of mile 6 to get some gravel out my shoes take a breather.

I took a few more CEV™️ pictures yesterday and today.

I also ran into a little danger noodle who couldn’t understand why I was pestering him with a camera. I’m okay with garter snakes as long as they don’t sneak up on me and aren’t too big.

I was more than a little fast on my easy run today, but it felt good, and easy, so I’m not going to worry about it 😄 It was a pretty decent day, upper 70s, low humidity, and sort of windy.

I started with a 3/4 mile warmup, then ran 5 miles, then finished with a 3/4 mile cooldown walk back to the car. Other than almost getting clipped by a little girl on a bike, it was basically uneventful. Cyclists of all ages on the paths around here need an etiquette refresher—how hard is it to say “on your left” when passing?! In the case of the little girl, just give her a bell on her bike.

We went to a Twins game yesterday! It was a postponed Father’s Day/birthday gift for my grandpa from my mother. My grandpa didn’t think a selfie was necessary, apparently 😆

After the game (which we won!!), I took a couple more selfies—this time with chipmunks!

Well, today’s run got cut slightly short, but I did finish the mileage, since I had to get back to my car. First of all, I went way too fast on the first mile and couldn’t maintain it. Second of all, something I ate or drank earlier in the day was not sitting well. So when I got to a bench at the 3 mile mark, I ended the run and sat for a few minutes before walking the mile back to the car.

No chipmunk pictures today because it was windy and they don’t like that. But we had a new visitor come and sun himself on the front step:

Also, my new snake friend has been hanging around the garden and the patio. I hope he doesn’t expect me to start providing food! 😅😅 I didn’t think Disney princess magic worked on snakes and turtles!

It was too hot to run today (85° and no wind to speak of) but I did it anyway. I didn’t really enjoy it. I did the Katrina Lake Loop again, but I went clockwise instead of counter-clockwise, and that was a major mistake. I spent the whole time slightly disoriented because it was all backwards. And I ended up frequently running into the sun in the second half of the run. Because of the heat, I increased my walk portion from 45 seconds to 60 in an attempt to slow myself down. As you can see, I was sort of successful 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ Saturday’s run will be better because the high is only forecasted at 73°, and I’m going to run early (since I have to wake up early for W&D ADRs anyway)

This afternoon at work, we all got an email from the head of our division telling us that because we’ve worked so hard I August serving our customers, he’s authorizing a bonus payment of $500 tomorrow! Of course, the only reason we had to work so hard is because we (the company) broke something while trying to “improve” it, but I’m not going to complain about free money 😄😄

I got another Yes.Fit medal today, and it glows!

Only one chipmunk picture to share, because I was out of food until the Amazon delivery tonight. Hazel was happy to get some of the last peanuts.

What a difference 30 degrees makes!! I felt like I could run forever today! I was a little over a minute faster on pace compared to Thursday, and yet my average heart rate was 4 bpm lower. I absolutely could’ve gone another mile (which is the race distance I’m training for currently) and I’m pretty sure I could’ve held this pace for another 4 miles to do a half.
9EA3C0B4-75E3-4B75-B275-69C4BBF162B1.jpg

I woke up just before 5am to do my ADRs for W&D, and got the important ones. I didn’t get Rose & Crown, but that was just for lunch after the expo on Thursday, so it’s not a huge deal. I ate some breakfast while I was doing ADRs, and sat around waiting for it to get light out. I ended up waiting a little too long and had to run into the sun a bit, but the trail was mostly shady, so it was fine.

I tried to hold back on the pace, since I had 9 miles to do and I didn’t want to burn out early. Once I hit the turnaround point, I just let it go to see how I could do. The last mile was a push to see if I could break 2 hours, but I just missed it. At the park where I left my car, there was a farmers market, and one of the stalls was a bakery. I got 4 chocolate chip cookies and a double chocolate chip muffin for $4, plus another dollar as tip to the nice old lady running the booth (I had a random $5 in my phone case)

I’ve decided on my costumes for Princess Weekend. Ariel for the 10K (I can reuse my shiny skirt from this year’s 10K), and village Belle for the half (mostly so I can stash snacks in the apron pocket 😆😆). I was trying to find stuff for either Tiana (her wedding dress) or Giselle (the floral dress) but Amazon was completely failing me. But I was suddenly inspired by a package that arrived yesterday:

So, back to Amazon I went, and found the PERFECT Maleficent shirt (really, at 30 inches long, it’ll practically be a short dress on me). I’m going to make a short version of her staff, and might even try to get her little crow/raven bird sitting on it (it’s handy I’m working on this during Halloween decoration season).

Now, chipmunks! Duchess, Ein, and my goofy little Hazel. Hazel being a young chipmunk (one of this year’s babies) seems to be more trainable than the others and understood me when I told him not to attack other chipmunks while they’re eating, so now he’s decided to just leap over them and climb on me until it’s his turn.

Yesterday, I spent an hour and a half hours trimming trees, and another hour cutting some of the branches down to size for the yard waste can. Tomorrow, I will finish cleaning up what I’ve already trimmed, and then decided if there’s more I want to take down.

I got to work a little overtime today, and I’ve been asked to do some on Monday as well, which is double and a half pay, so it’s hard to turn down, and it’s not like I have to leave the house or anything.

It feels so good when a run goes so well! Glad you got to experience it after this hot summer.

26 Days Until: TC Loony Challenge

I did not get to do my run today. I woke up much earlier than I wanted to, and I was too tired to try running right away. So I decided to log in and see if there was any work to do, and I did that for 2 hours. Then I had lunch, so I was going to have to wait a bit before running, but then I had to help with a crisis my grandparents were having (which then ended up not being a crisis 🙄). And then I had to finally finish clearing up all the tree branches I cut down on Friday, and by then it was past 6 and I was sore and starving, so running 6 miles was not going to happen.

So I’m going to run 5 easy miles at lunch tomorrow, and move tomorrow’s 4 tempo miles to Thursday (it’s gonna be 90, so this is gonna suck a bit, but what are you gonna do?—I might consider trying to wake up and do it before work), and do 6 easy miles on Friday, followed by my scheduled 10 miles on Saturday. Saturday’s pace will be determined by how I’m feeling. I’d like to do it a little on the fast side because it’s a virtual race, but if it has to be slow, that’s ok too.

Three very full yard waste bags, a mostly full muck bucket, a very full lawnmower trailer, and eight hours across 3 days of my life spent on trimming trees.

In chipmunk news today, we have Gus in my hand, and a rare Ace sighting in his tree.

I managed to get most of my miles in today. I (stupidly) decided to run a little outside my neighborhood and run some hills. I chose to nope out of the last big hill, so I came up a little short on distance. It was really really sunny, and there was absolutely no shade. This was not exactly the easy run that it should have been. But I finished, and kept the pace consistent, so that’s a good thing.

Oof, looking at your HR data I think I would've nope'd out too, unless it's supposed to be a a tempo/threshold run! That was a pretty intense workout, especially in that heat. Way to get miles in!
