I'm sure I'm not the only one who cleans the entire room when we arrive. First I put on a hazmat suit and remove the bedspread and sheets, placing them in biohazard bags. I flip all the mattresses to check for bed bugs (and snakes). Then I remake the beds with our own linens brought from home. I scour the bathroom walls, floors and ceilings with heavy duty cleaner and steel wool followed by full strength bleach, using an old toothbrush and a box of Q-tips to clean the exhaust fan. I put several boxes of denture tablets in the whirlpool tub and run it for four hours. I also wash all the dishes, pots, pans, and cutlery in the dishwasher after I disinfect it with bleach and vinegar. Drop clothes go down on all the rugs and the children know not to touch the drapes. Then we can start our relaxing vacation!
