Improtant FYI on flying right now!

I found the following information (and more) at mercurynews. com

Q I'm confused about items like lipstick, lip gloss and lip balm. Are they allowed in carry-ons?

A The U.S. Transportation Security Administration on Friday clarified its position on these products. Lipsticks and solid lip balms are permitted, said Nico Melendez, a TSA official. But lip glosses and Vaseline-style balms that come in small tubes are prohibited, as are items such as mascara, eyeliner, hair spray and nail polish.

Does anyone know if this is valid or confirmed anywhere else?

I was told by a friend who flew yesterday (Sunday, August 13th) that they were making people throw away things like lipstick, chapstick, etc. at the security checkpoint. This was at John Wayne Airport in California (they were returning from Disneyland). Just to be safe, I would recommend packing everything like that in your checked luggage. It would be a shame to have to throw away something fairly expensive - all that stuff could really add up for those who wear make-up.

I think there is the "official" TSA list but you are still subject to whatever is being imposed at your particular airport or screening area. I think that is what is making it so frustrating and confusing for people--the inconsistency. Shoes were a good example before...I usually had to take them off for one leg of the trip but not the other (different airports)---now ALL shoes are to be screened.

Best policy seems to be--when in doubt, pack it, don't carry it.

Are you still allowed to bring carry-ons? and how about camaras and videocamaras and dvd players, psp... I don't want to check in my camaras... and like an other person asked, how about coloring books and crayons... wow if not allowed, it will be a long flight... but I totally understand, if we can't... I'd rather be safer...

We flew to WDW Jan '04 and had a funny experience. I booked 5 tickets on delta.com. We flew from Roanoke, VA to Cinncinatti(sp) then to MCO each and EVERY check point we went through the ONLY one NOT searched was my husband. I asked WHY does my hubby not have to go through ,take off shoes and wanding experience. They said his ticket was coded so he didn't have to. UGGGGHHH I booked them all at the same time.

(copied from another post)

Radio commercial from the 1950's: "... powder your teeth, don't paste 'em ..."

Do they still make tooth powder, now that we can't bring toothpaste on board airplanes?

The next step up in consistency from liquid to gels is clays. Lip balm and lipstick and Play Doh are in the clay category.

What on earth do people do about bottles with formula for babies? My own son doens't need that anymore, but I'd like to bring his sippy cup with milk ready for take off. I guess I'll have to bring an empty cup and ask the flight attendant for water (I can never find milk in their beverage service). It's really only an inconvenience for me, but for some very small babies and children with health issues it could be a big deal. Anyone experience this yet? I'm glad I don't fly for a few months (although I'm sure this and maybe more will still be in effect.)

If you are traveling with a baby you may bring formula, breastmilk, juice, or baby food with you. BUT you must taste everything in front of security! My vote would be powdered formula (and ask for water on the plane) and leave everything eles in your checked luggage. Even using ME our luggage was in our room within a couple of hours.

They are called Oral-B brush up. They may be discontinued, but I was able to find some at my local Wal-mart about a month ago.

You can buy them individually at minimus.biz. They specialize in travel size and single use items.

No, they will NOT make you taste everything. That was being done in the UK, but is specifically listed on the TSA website as NOT being required in the US.

If you are travelling with a baby you can do powder, but I would bring a couple of single-serving sizes of ready-to-feed just in case. Water is going very quickly on planes these days, and the FA's might not be able to get it to you if you needed it in a hurry.

On gummy candy: there have been reports posted on the Flyertalk boards that Gummy Bears and similar candy have been confiscated as being gels. I haven't seen official word on these candies from TSA, but I saw gummy bears being sold airside at MCO on Sunday, so I'm pretty sure you could get them on the plane if you bought them airside.
