Don't get me wrong. I am a Nikon shooter and think the D800 will be a great camera but is it my monitor or does that image look grossly over sharpened?
I don't think so; it just looks like a combination of lighting, a well-stabilized camera and perfect focus produced an amazingly sharp photo. I don't see any sign of the excessive halos you'd expect to see in an over-sharpened image. I've gotten similar startling results at times shooting portraits on my D300 with a 50mm f/1.8, in fact (albeit not so huge).
If this were my work and I was going to give this image to the subject, I would spend some time retouching it. While it is a testament to what this camera can do, I don't think most people would really want a portrait that tempts the viewer to try to count the "peach fuzzies" on her face!
I am going to have to break down and pick up a D800, the level of detail this camera provides is amazing. I keep thinking about how great it would be to pair up this camera with my Nikon 14-24mm. The ability to have high resolution landscape shots that can be cropped to my hearts desire while still maintaining a high level of detail is too hard to resist.
I can imagine taking some great shots of the castle in Magic Kingdom and blowing them up poster size.
