Hi, been reading lots of threads and gaining lots of info here. I have been to WDW many times but it has been about 6 years since my last trip. This is my first post to the forum, but an important one.

**Moderators, if this is in the wrong area please move it. I only want to give a warning to everyone as a courtesy. It is important to always check your charges.

My wife just made our last payment for our May trip to to Disney on Wednesday night. Last night we went out to eat and charged our meal this morning she bought stamps at the post office and charged the stamps. We were walking the dogs about 30 min. later and I received a text from discover about possible fraud charges on our Discovercard.

When we got home I called Discover and there were charges made in Florida at a WinDixie and for gas at the same time my wife used her card at the post office.

To be clear here I am not pointing fingers at Disney. I just want people to know so they can check there charges if they paid their vacations off lately. Discover said they were opening an investigation on the charges and since the last charge was at Disney and the fraudulent charges where in Florida it seemed as though it might have come from there.

Like I have said this is only being posted so people can check their charges. Who ever made the charge used a card with the wife's name and number on it. She still had the card in her purse here in Pennsylvania.

How frightening!! I am checking my accounts right now. Thanks for the heads up. I hope your account is cleared up and secured quickly. Good luck!

Talked with Discover and they said $193 was charged at the WinDixie. The red flag must have went up when the stamps were purchased in PA. The people left WinDixie went to the gas pumps and by then the card was deactivated by Discover. Thats when I got the text. It makes me feel good that they have things in place to catch this kind of thing. We do not pay for any extra card protection. Like the commercial says "it really pays to Discover" :)

New card from Discover came today. Like always I don't sign my cards I write "check ID". Hope that doesn't happen again. I hope the info posted keeps everyone on their toes with their credit cards. Have a great weekend everyone!

I also write "check ID" on my cards and am rarely asked for my ID. In addition to my full time job, I work a part time "vacation money" job at a winery on Sundays. I would say that 50% of customers have "check ID" on their card and most are surprised that I actually ask to see their ID. Sadly, store clerks aren't as diligent about checking ...

I'm glad Discover was prompt in noticing and addressing your fraud issue!

OP, sorry to hear this happened, but glad they caught it for you...another reason we love Discover! :thumbsup2

I believe the red flag stemmed from the WD charge in FL since they know you live in PA. On the road to WDW one year we barely made it out of TN for gas when they blocked our card and issued a fraud alert. Now we only use Discover for booking/traveling vacations...never our personal checking account card. Also, if you call them before leaving for your trip they will make a note on the account for travel. Very thankful for this service.

I have spent a few weekend visiting wineries in the finger lake regions. Its only about 3 hours from here. Which one do you work at? We always come home with a couple cases! :thumbsup2 Last time we stayed at the Idlwilde Inn on Seneca Lake. It's a great weekend away for my wife and I. We even found the GrassRoots festival in Trumansburg one year when we were there. That was a lot of fun :)

I've read you're not allowed to put something like "check ID" unless your legal name is "check ID" . Unless your drivers license lists your name as "check ID" the store is not suppose to accept your card. That policy is not normally followed. There are some credit cards that put your picture on the card.

As long as the card has your name on it and you have your license with your picture & name on it they have to take it. If they would not accept it I would call the card company on site and complain. I forgot to put anything on a new card once and was asked to sign it. I wrote check id on it and handed it back with my license in my hand. The girl swiped it through and never asked to see the id!

I always hand my charge card and drivers license to the person. Some don"t even look at the id. I was always worried about charging online but we believe this happened using the phone.

Thanks for the reminder!
I recall last year prior to our 25th Anniversary trip there was a similar situation on the boards and a Disney employee was actually "let go" with pending investigation.
We are always checking our balances, we are Chase customers and they are also Awesome with their fraud diligence....actually deactivated our Debit cards (DH & mine) when someone tried to use online for multiple small charges repeatedly at a very later hour! We were very happy!
Well, we will be there MothersDay week and we too will be checking ;o)

We also have Chase and I was the one that made several small purchases one night on the internet and they cut me off :scared1: Glad they are watching out for us. I always call before we go out of town so they can make a note on the account. It is scary what people can do.
