IMHO on codes

i think that they may be a thing of the past, at least as long as the new ticket pricing is in effect.
************
What are you basing this on? So far, they have been coming out on similar dates to years past. I have a code I'm using in February. I had a code I used in January. We are just all very anxious for the next codes, each time threads get started saying, "don't count on them", "for sure we won't get them this time", "don't buy an AP just because of them", "just book what you can afford".
I won't panic until we pass the time they usually come out. And I'll not book just what I can afford, because I have lots of places I can vacation at, and if Disney prices don't come down to resonable prices, we'll just go elsewhere, where we can get a room we want, at what I consider a reasonable price. If codes don't come out for our May trip, I won't renew my AP, and I'll start planning a vacation for another exciting place to visit.

Heres the deal...

If the new ticket pricing gets people there and fills up the hotels they won't do codes/dicounts. If they have empty rooms they will do codes/discounts. If Disney can get rack rate that is what they are going to take and if not they will decide if they will be better off with a discount.

So if the new tickets and new free transport fill up the hotels then... be prepared to pay.

While it's true that Disney has no incentive to release codes if the hotels are full, you can still get most any type of room the week of the May 5 celebration, with the exception of concierge around the 4th and 5th. Surprising? No. They bring in the press and celebrities to promote the event. The fact that none of the value or moderate resorts are full says Disney has incentive to release codes to get people to the park. After all, most times they make up the money they discount off the rooms by selling souviners, food, etc. Besides, it's only the middle of February. Last year codes didn't come out for this period until March. I'm not worried.

I just got off the phone with a CM. I was trying to see if there was an email or postcard pin next to our names. No luck. SHe asked if I was an AP holder (she noticed we had been at GF in 2003 and 2004 and were booked again for 2005). I told her yes. She said the AP discount codes for our dates (actually until July 4) would be released very soon.

Can you tell I am bored today?

2004 AKL Pool DIS Visa Room only for 10 nights with taxes $1736
2 adult and 2 child UMP with tax $1572
Total $3308

2005 AAA Pool Room only for 10 nights with taxes $2522.8
2 adult, 2 children MYW hopper and Magic Plus with tax $1,097.02
Total $3922.82

it is more than I thought it would be. Maybe I will play with moderate pricing next to see if deluxe vs. moderate makes a difference.

I should go clean though!

My kids are 11 and 13 so pay adult ticket prices. I am not sure that makes much difference though because child prices were figured into both. I am bored too. It's February and it's pouring rain outside. I'm just thrilled that it's not snowing.

Oh Dear, I am not worried. I was actually enjoying the comparisons and the search for previous rates on an otherwise boring Sunday Afternoon. I hope you didn't think I was complaining. (trust me, when I complain-EVERYONE knows it!)

And that is it in a nut shell. Disney wants people in their rooms...even at discount prices (discount for Disney) they make it up in food, souvenirs, etc. The parks may be swamped, but if those people are staying in much less expensive hotels outside of Disney and still buying the MYW tix, that isn't good enough. They need their rooms filled...and I'm not seeing that on "ordinary" days and weekends.
Still too early to yell the sky is falling. I'll wait til they usually release them, and if they don't, then I'll cry in my beer (well, water, I don't like beer).

i know when we went one year in Oct. then the following year Oct was the 25th celebration, that it was really really crowded. So we are thinking of aug - sept, but it prob. will be busy , so im thinking we prob. wont get many specials or codes...............

With the weakness of the dollar at the moment I know there are huge numbers of Brits and Europeans coming over this year to take advantage of that. Coupled with the 50 year celebrations and that Disney themeparks division announced very good figures for last year, I think Disney may continue to hold off on it's discounts. Usually the way hotels and airlines work is they like to have certain occupancy levels at certain ltimes, if they are short of their occupancy levels they will offer discounts to reach their desired levels. The European visitors book quite some time in advance, if there has been a large increase in these types of bookings, as seems to be the case, it could well be that Disney has hit, or is close to, it's desired occupancy levels already and doesn't feel the need yet, to put it's discounts into place.

Disney is a business, if they feel they can charge full rate then they owe it to their shareholders to do so.

Over recent years numbers of vacationers has been down, Disney discounted accordingly to encourage those that were travelling to stay on Disney. IMHO it's been a game of stand off between Disney and those who are aware of the likelyhood of discounts. At some time Disney is going to see if those discounts were encouraging that wouldn't have stayed on Disney to do so, or if, as I believe, most of those people would have come anyway and would have been prepared to pay more for their rooms.

The increased number of bookings Disney already has from Europeans and Brits may mean Disney offers far fewer discounts this year and that those discounts are not as deep as people have become used to. I have the feeling that, this year, the guests are a little more edgy than Disney is.

Interesting....so maybe instead of paying the money for a vacation, I should use that money to buy stock in Disney this year? ;)
