I'm watching "Kate Plus Eight"....

Aren't there an aunt and uncle that used to help out that bailed because she was so wacked out? Haven't seen or heard from the since the kids were babies if I'm remembering correctly.

If I recall, she doesn't speak to her family at all.

Btw, love the Lincoln quote in you siggy. My favorite one is "If I had 8 hours to chop down a tree, I'd spend 6 hours sharpening my ax."

LOL Sorry, I am getting confused with who hates her, who strongly dislikes her, who dislikes her attitude and who looooooooooooooooooooves her.

Let's add another one. I would like to be placed under the do not have anything against Kate and wish her well column. Since I do not know her, I cannot say I like or dislike her.

TLC went out of their way to edit the footage over the years to make Kate look nicer than she actually is. You are welcome to believe otherwise if you wish, but I'm not buying it.

How do you know that? Seems like an assumption to me. She could have just been on her best behavior when the cameras were rolling.

I am not sure how much editing TLC did one way or the other. None of us are perfect and cameras would pick up on that if we were followed around constantly. Since I did not watch the show for a while, I am not sure how Kate was portrayed over the more recent years (other than the last two episodes, which I watched). We all have flaws and are lucky that cameras doo not follow us to document them. There would be threads about us (no matter how nice we all think we are) if we were documented. I would never let a camera follow me, because people may stop thinking I am nice!

While I can honestly say that I would not care: if my son handed someone a slice of pizza with his bare hands, if some random person took a picture of me, if an adult in my group did not get the first food of his choice or that I got wet on a water raft, I would be very hurt if someone spoke negatively about me in front of my kids. (I realize she berated Jon and others in the kids' presence, but two wrongs do not make a right). Kate was aware that was going on, which might have added to her poor behavior. It was like the self fulfilling prophecy. It upset her they were speaking about her, so she was rude and gave them more things to say about her. I am not blaming them for her behavior as we all have to be responsible for our own behavior.

I have nothing against Jamie and Ashley for doing that. Just like Kate, they were overstressed and made a mistake. It was a mistake though that none of us would appreciate for our kids to hear. That does not convince me that any of them are bad people, including Kate. They just made bad choices and had negative reactions when they were stressed. Kate may be a very nice person when she is not stressed out. Hopefully, once the cameras are off, she can de-stress. I am aware that her personality will probably never change, but stress can bring out the worst in people. As I said before, she has good qualities to go along with her negative ones. We've already been through a list in this thread, so I am not going to list them all out here. I will say that she is an excellent dancer, though ;).

Kate may have lost her way a bit, but I do not believe that she does not love her kids. Hopefully, she can get it all in perspective and turn it around. I wish her luck in everything she does. The kids need some normalcy, and I hope she can give it to them.

We are having a dialogue. A dialogue doesn't mean everyone agrees. I personally like opposing viewpoints.

:thumbsup2

I'm not sure if I like it UNTIL someone gets snippy or BECAUSE someone gets snippy sometimes. :rotfl:

PS: thanks Wade, I saw it on Facebook and promptly made it my own. ;)

Yup, all because "they didn't know how to help us."

This reminds me of her telling her DWTS partner that she wasn't getting it because he doesn't know how she learns.

What it actually means, in both cases, is that they aren't doing what she wants.

Sure, all these reality shows are edited for ratings. But you can't deny the fact that Kate's actions and words on the show were anything but demeaning and belittling to her children, her ex-husband, her friends, employees etc. I was embarrased for the adults and heartbroken for her children.
She made many negative comments to her children if they liked or showed interest in something that she did not like. How is that encouraging your child to explore his/her own interests in life? Kate was afraid of getting wet on the river raft and ranted about it. It's a boat on water....come on!
Even one of the twins (don't know which one) was talking about how her Mom was throwing another one of her 'fits'. (But I think that fit was food related)

I don't hate Kate. I just thinks she needs to open her eyes and really take a look at herself, what is going on around her and how it is affecting her family and friends. Hopefully all these years on TV don't have any negative effects on her children. That would be a shame.

Exactly!!! Poor Tony on DWTS getting stuck with Kate. He must of really ticked off one of the producers to be paired with her. He was treated the same way she treats anyone she comes in contact with---TERRIBLE!:scared1:

The funny thing about DWTS was Kate's costumes--AWFUL--must of been payback by the sewing department for the way she treated Tony!

I think Tony was stuck with her because he's the nicest, most patient pro on the show (other than maybe Louis). Could you imagine Maks with her? He definitely would not have put up with her attitude.

So what explains all the other crappy costumes they create for everyone else?:dance3:

I'm glad the show is over. I was HOOKED the moment I saw an advertisement for the first special. I was so impressed with Kate and her organization. I have 2 kids ... the youngest is the same age as the sextuplets, so watching Kate with six kids the same age as one of mine was kind of neat. I loved Kate's plans for the days, her budgeting ... everything. And when the family was getting ready for Disney ... it was exciting! Kate was excited and had a countdown to Mickey.

Then, it all went down hill. Fast. And I quit watching b/c I really couldn't stand Kate's attitude or behaviour.

I hadn't watched for years, but found the infamous pizza episode online. It was sad. Kate is modeling that behaviour for 8 children. Eight children who admire her ... and Kate showed them that it's okay to throw a screaming fit if you don't get what you want (and I have a feeling Kate throws fits regularly). It is no wonder the one twin threw an absolute fit when that little boy had the nerve to sit at the same table during Lego time in the RV ... she's learned that Gosselins are MORE IMPORTANT and MORE ENTITLED than regular folks.

Ok, I'm always willing to enlighten a friend. :)

Regarding Dizneygirl's post #548, a reasonable person can deduce that all those people who left Kate over the years, the ones who I might add saw how she acts on and off the camera, they left because she is truly an awful person to be around.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance to you. :)

Some observations from the final episode:

It was a nice blend of the old and the newer footage, it was great to see the clips of them goofing around and the kids truly happy and so innocent, but those clips are few and far between and are from a long time ago which is very sad.

It is scary though how much her appearance has changed in just a few short years. At the time of the vow renewal, Kate was so natural looking and very pretty. I agree that now she seems to have a very hard, scowl-like face.

Does anyone else think that Mady seemed coached in what she had to say in the last episode? She seems to have said verbatim the same stuff as Jon and Kate used to say about not being able to take home videos and how the shows are a way to have video memories to keep forever. Maybe it was an acting test for her with her big dreams of becoming a Disney kid, oh wait, it's Kate that wants her to be a Disney kid.

It is strange to think that Kate has never wavered in her defense of the show and now even saying that from the beginning she has had a say in what the content would be, voiceovers etc. If she was not happy with how she has been portrayed then why would she continue and the more obvious question would be why wouldn't she take aim at the network for painting her in a bad light if it wasn't actually the case??

In the beginning Kate seemed to be so focused on where their next meal would come from, how to have some normal experiences with so many children however she has morphed into thinking that she and her children deserve above and beyond experiences, all because she never left Pennsylvania as a child herself??? It is beyond comprehension to think of how Kate's thought process and actions have changed in just a few short years.

There is a long list of people that have "bailed" on Kate since the kids were born.

What about the older couple that was at the "circus" birthday party and the "rich" couple that let them use their yard for family photos in the fall one year?

Bingo!! I agree with you. If she has as much control as she claims, WHY the Hades would she allow herself to be "portrayed" that way?? If you (general you) feel it was edited poorly, did she then make a deal with the devil, so to speak, and allow herself to be shown that way to get the ratings?? For someone who's a control freak, I can't believe she'd surrender total control & let them call all the shots. First season, newbie to contracts, etc maybe...but if you have a successful show, the networks let you call more of the shots.

That is exactly why I have argued that TLC has done its best to edit the episodes to make Kate look better than she actually is. But there is only so much footage available and if she acts nasty so much of the time, then a good portion of it is inevitably going to make it on air. All this talk about how it was all edited to make her look bad is just Kate desperately trying to rehabilitate her image in order to get another tv gig.

I absolutely agree!

So who else is thinking that it is only a matter of time before Kate does something stupid to get back in the limelight?

Yep, just a matter of time. You think she'll copy the housewife and run away with a 70's band? Did Kate ever get a new babysitter to replace Ashley?
