I'm tired of drinking out of my multi-colored glasses

I have vintage Tupperware drinking glasses (think bright orange and yellow!) that I purchased at a garage sale several years ago. I bought them because of the kids, but now I am so tired of them and embarrassed when I have to give somebody a glass to drink out of and these are the only ones that are clean! I also have pastel Tupperware glasses and jewel-tone purple, but these aren't as embarrassing. ;) I think I need some glasses that are a compromise between function (kid proof) and fashion. Any ideas????

We have used clear acrylic glasses for years. They look ok and they don't break.

I have the cheapo plastic glasses that I get at SAMS. Think restaurant type glasses. Those are our common glasses we use daily.

However I have MANY types of glasses in my cabinets from nice glassware to tupperware for little ones.

We have some plastic cups from when the kids were little (still use), but all prefer to drink out of glass. I bought some sets from Home Goods recently for $10 (set of 8) that we love.

Go to any store and buy glasses that you aren't embarrassed to drink out of.

something about plastic cups I just don't like, although we have a ton of them.
For $10, you can go to walmart and get a nice set of glass drinking glasses...that are plain with no designs.

I just bought a set to use for "adult beverages" while entertaining and within one use I had a crack on a glass. They look nice, but I guess I got what I paid for. :rolleyes1

Sounds easy enough, but I'm limited to Kmart and Walmart and online shopping. I was hoping for suggestions of glasses that people have that are shatterproof.

Clear acrylic glasses that someone else mentioned really do look like real glass and are shatter proof as well as dishwasher safe. I have a set of wine glasses and mixed drink glasses that we use on our outside patio. I'm sure that WalMart or KMart would have some, if not try overstock.com, bedbathandbeyond.com or target.com. Sorry i fon't have a name brand for you but mine came form Smith & Hawkins and they have gone out of business.

:thumbsup2I like the Carlisle Lorraine. I had searched BedBathandBeyond.com and came up with a selection there, also. By the end of the day I am going to make my decision and order some glasses. :cool1:Hopefully now with rural water I won't get fogginess on clear glasses. I could never had had clear glasses before with our icky water, but now I'm going to try it. Now if I could just bite the bullet and get rid of my Corelle dinnerware that I have had for 15+ years...

:rotfl:

Figure out your cost per use per plate for the last 15 years. It's probably less than 1 cent per plate.

List them on craigslist for $10 and go out and buy something you like. Even if it's expensive when you do a time/cost analysis it works out to be pretty reasonable if you're not replacing them in a year.

I went nuts and bought Villeroy & Boch china when I replaced my Pfaltzgraf a couple of years ago. V&B is not break resistant but it is chip resistant. Villeroy & Boch is very, very Expensive unless you pick it up used on e-bay - but when I figured out my cost per plate after 17 years would be about 1 penny per use - the amount of time I had my pfaltzgraf - I decided I could justify spending a ton on something I loved. :rolleyes1 DH bought my reasoning and didn't argue :woohoo: :rotfl:

My everyday glasses for the kids OTH are the same plastic tupperware that you hate. :rotfl2:

Some of my Corelle plates have gotten chips on them from being dropped on the floor. Just when I think I can thin the herd and claim I need new dishes, DH takes it down to the shop and grinds it down so that the edge is smooth again. :lmao:

Ohhhh I have to try that ! I can just hear the arguments from DH now, he's such a numbers geek, but I swear he makes up his 'own' math !

Too Funny ! :lmao:
I have to say that the glasses I have that look like the Carlisle Louis the first four came from the bar DH worked in right after college ! We bought the rest from Crate & Barrell to match b/c they were so strudy !
We don't even have kids to worry about !

The clear, acrylic glasses we have used for years we purchased at Walmart.

Interesting stuff on that link! :thumbsup2

How on earth did you accomplish that. I'll be married 7yrs in Oct. and we are down to 1 glass for our wedding gifts. I broke the vast majority of them over the years in the sink doing dishes:lmao:

Anyhow, my own suggestion for the OP is Tervis Tumblers. I recently bought a set and my mom brought us back a set from FL. They don't sweat and don't break. I think they look nice and they keep drinks cold or warm depending on what you're drinking. I love em.
