I also take one of the DVC sheets and put it on top of the blanket. That way the blanket is enclosed with a top and bottom sheet. An idea I picked up from another poster on the Dis. I understand from her post that this is what some of the more upscale hotels do with their bedding.
Yep, I do this. Got the idea from my Mom and those upscale hotels.
The bedsheets are always larger than the blanket. I fold the sheet on top in and over the top of the blanket. The sheet on the bottom of the blanket then gets folded over both the blanket and the top- top sheet so that no part of the itchy blanket is exposed.
I also carry around a whole lot of safety pins. I pin the sheets and blankets so that they won't come loose and viola - instant duvet cover!
I put the germy bedspread in the closet, not to be seen until the end of the trip. When I make my bed in the morning I pull up my homemade duvet cover. Clean and sanitary enough to fold clean
laundry on.
Now if there are people over who aren't in my immediate family who I know will sit on my bed or I know the kids will be sitting on my bed in their outdoor play clothes to watch the bedroom tv, I make sure that I make the bed with the DVC bedspread.
I usually don't bring my own bedlinens - too much to pack as it is. I do make sure the bottom sheet is pulled and tucked tightly and I usually pull it higher to tuck it in the head of the bed when I make the bed since that's where it is most likely to come loose.
Been lucky that we haven't had much of a problem with DVC bedsheets coming loose. Now if we had that annoying problem (in some places the bottom sheets are way too small for the mattress) than I definitely would bring my own sheets.
In the past, our little ones usually slept in the king bed with us so we had the extra bedlinens from the sofa bed to "make" my duvet cover. Even when the girls used the sofa bed, we had no problems requesting one extra bedsheet from mousekeeping.
Usually by the end of the trip, our unit is swimming with extra towels and bedsheets. The mousekeepers usually leave my beautiful duvet cover alone and leave the new sheets for me on full cleaning day unless I remember to unpin the cover. A few towels are always in the washer/dryer, so we always wind up with more towels on full cleaning and trash & towels days.
If I couldn't get an extra sheet consistantly, I might consider bringing my own or picking one up at
Walmart, but so far, no problem.
