About a month ago when I went in for a standard physical, it was discovered that I had a UTI. This is not unusual for me, I used to get them all the time. I suspect I'd had it for a week, but I don't really get symptoms so couldn't say.

So we tried one antibiotic for 3 days. Nothing. No improvement.

Tried another one, which in the past has always cleared this up for me. That one was a little over a week and the medicine made me sick.

Checked again, it's still there.

No wonder I'm feeling run down, but I'm getting a little concerned that 2 antibiotics aren't taking care of this thing. :( And the way the nurse talked has me a little nervous. :(

Prayers coming your way.

I would definitely keep in touch with your Dr.s about this since the infection could potentially spread up to your kidneys. If you start to have bad back pain I would high tail it to the Dr.'s office. I don't want to scare you, but being a long time UTI sufferer myself that is something I look out for.

Definitally sending you some P&PD. My almost 2 yr old DD is very prone to chronic UTI's and is on a daily antibiotic to prevent them. She has a Vesicoureteral Reflux, that she will hopefully outgrow, I don't know if adults can have this or not. Hope they find something to make you feel better soon.

Ahh-hah. That's probably exactly why the nurse sounded so concerned. Thanks for telling me what to watch out for.

This may not be related to your problem at all. But, it doesn't hurt to drink alot of cranberry juice and water to help flush your kidneys.

This is from one who's had to have kidney stones removed

Tammi, sorry to hear this but glad you're getting it checked out! Prayers said & good thoughts to you!

Actually with me, it does. :( I'm allergic to cranberries. :(

The water, I'm doing.

Sorry to hear that. Like stich79 says you should pay attention to your body signals. Drink lots of water!

You may have to see a urologist to do the drill, x-rays, ultrasound, etc. Anyway, hope things clear up. :)

Hoping you feel better soon, Tammi, and the meds, or just time, do the trick for you. Drink LOTS of water.'s

Tammi, I had the same thing happen to me when I was 19. I ended up with a kidney infection and had to be hospitalized with IV antibiotics. Please don't let it go because I did and that is why I ended up the hospial, not once, but twice. Good luck & I hope you feel better.

Tammi, I just finished antibiotics on Wednesday for a UTI. I felt crummy while I had it, and am glad it is over. No advice for you, just a  .

make sure they are sending your urine out for a culture, not just doing the dip in the office. Many times your infection might be resistant to the first antibiotic and can only be found through the culture that takes 48 hours for the results to return

Make sure the doctor treating the UTI knows about the other meds you take - sometimes they interfere with the antibiotics:goodvibes

Someone on the boards had touble fighting off an UTI. It seems it took a couple of months. I can't remember what was the final fix on that.

I hope they take care of this soon for you, Tammi.

Thanks everyone.

WE -- that, or something similar, is what I'm concerned about. My mom and my maternal grandmother both have/had problems with persistant/frequent UTIs as well, and in my grandma it resulted in her having to have some kind of surgery because of it. Granted that was before I was born, but still, I know to not just ignore them. But it's hard when the symptoms could be *anything*. Really, my biggest symptoms have been exhaustion and a periodic fever.

PLM -- thanks for that advice. I know the first time, they sent it out. That's how we found it. Second time was done in-house and they found it was still there. This third check was again sent out, and you just answered why it took them so long to get back to me. I was wondering about that, thanks.

FranP -- yep, she does. Or at least I know it's noted on my files and I mention the entire list when I go in.

Hope you are feeling better, Tammi. Hope they can find something that will work for you.:D
