Im so over this Ice Bucket Challenge

I believe the phrases used for those whose answers do not satisfy include:

1. high and mighty
2. on their high horse
3. hypocritical

So your answer had better be good enough. Curiosity seems to be loaded with judgment.

You can't see the trees through the forest, can you?

Unfortunately, he has declined. I'm not even an American citizen but I love him but I am disappointed that he declined. If he has time to go on talk shows, he should make time to do this.

I don't love him, but I can understand him declining.

Clearly! How DARE you ask me or anyone else why. How DARE you be CURIOUS as to what, if any, why someone would find pouring ice water over their head so repulsive! No go and think about what you asked and never speak of it again!

Here's something else I offered up to those I challenged. If they felt pouring a bucket of ice over THEIR own head was repulsive, then I offered for them to pour it over MY head..... in exchange for them to donate $100 to an ALS chapter of their choice (or any other non-profit of their liking). Some still declined any participation or donation... which was their choice and I was ok with it (not that I needed to be).

Maybe they wanted to donate to something else.

I've never been one to jump on the slacktivism bandwagon.

Maybe I dont understand slacktivism but I thought that would be doing the challenge but not donating:confused3, like changing your profile pic to pink but not donating to breast cancer or like in the HuffPost article sharing the Kony picture but doing nothing else but feeling like you did your part.

If you did the challenge AND donated like many of the people I know did than wouldnt that be different.

Like I said maybe I dont get the term

Unfortunately, he has declined. I'm not even an American citizen but I love him but I am disappointed that he declined. If he has time to go on talk shows, he should make time to do this.

NOT A FAN of our current POTUS, but I support him declining, I think he has more critical things to be tending to. I would have like to see Lebron or Ethel Kennedy call out one of the former presidents or first ladies, like GW or Bill Clinton. And maybe they have been, I just havent see it.

Maybe they wanted to donate to something else.

I've had several friends do the challenge, but say they were making a donation to something else and linking to a different organization. My cousins kids all donated their allowance last week to a wounded warriors sailing organization as part of their challenge.

Again, I really don't think anyone's upset if people don't want to to do the challenge or if they want to donate to something other than ALS. Just don't do it. No biggie. The backlash against the backlash is when people are calling the movement stupid, yelling at people for wasting water, calling it slaktivism, posting a particularly obnoxious FB picture with a poor African child (presumably) saying "So let me get this straight: You're wasting clean water to avoid donating", etc. When clearly this particular viral campaign IS WORKING! Amazingly! Beyond all wildest imagination!

So not wanting to do it and simply ignoring it is totally reasonable. Saying you're "over it" and wishing it would go away seems mean spirited and unreasonable.

Unless of course you have 20 million dollars to donate to make up for the money that's been raised to date because of the ice bucket challenge.

He doesn't want to. :confused3 Why would anyone be disappointed by that? And further he's been challenged several times over the last week by several famous people including Ethel Kennedy:

"The president appreciates Mrs. Kennedy thinking of him for the challenge -- though his contribution to this effort will be monetary," Obama said in a statement issued through spokesman Eric Schultz, the Boston Globe reported. "The president will be making a donation to an ALS charity this week."

I thought I would dump ice on them duh;):lmao: Just kidding.

Choclate Chip...no thanks! Now Cookies and cream....:lmao:

I dont want to IS an answer, I keep saying it! I was asking if people were willing to expand on their answer bc I dont get why you would say no. DeaverTex answered.

My brother's answer WAS hypocritical!

And no I did not expect all of this but I will roll with it this is the DIS, it happens.

We are at an impass. Peace! :hippie:

I'm just going to leave this right here...

:thumbsup2

:rotfl: Got it loud and clear.

As an aside, I am truly supportive of the good work done with the FB challenge. I just don't like the judgement surrounding it for those who don't want to participate. If I get challenged, I'm not doing it and I'm not donating to anyone else. I have lots of reasons. I donate lots of time and money to various causes. I'm not going to write another check just so I can say I did. It may make me look "bad." And I'm not going to list all my "wonderful" deeds on FB to explain why I didn't do the challenge.

I think the challenge is a wonderful idea and I'm thrilled that its helping a worthy cause. I just want to be left alone, I guess :rotfl:.

Another aside - mkrop - I'm so glad my choc. chip ice cream is safe from you ;).

ETA : and based on the statement released it seems as if the POTUS did do the challenge, he choose the donate option!

Not that it matters, but wouldn't the bold be "reason"?

I can agree with this.

I guess - though I'm sure it sounds obnoxious to some. Maybe I should just say "leave me alone" and see what happens :rotfl:.

In all honesty, most of my friends would probably understand the leave me alone answer and love me anyway. I have some very good friends :goodvibes.

I'm not really sure why I got involved in this discussion anyway - I have a lot of things to do and can't get motivated. This is way more fun ;).

Clearly, some answers are good enough for her and some are not. And if the answer is not good enough, the person will be categorized as high and mighty, on their high horse, hypocritical......maybe worse. With that attitude, is it any wonder people are hesitant to offer reasons why they declined the challenge?

The minute this becomes judgmental and people get criticized for choosing not to participate, the challenge will begin to lose its effectiveness. It will leave a bad taste in people's mouths. And that will likely hurt future fundraising efforts for ALS and other worthy causes.

Oh please and all the criticisms coming the other way wont hurt it either,it will, why do those against the challenge need to be so critical as well. Why cant they just ride the wave on all this and not pass judgement. Dopey Dame spelled it out, those are the high and mightys I was referring to. Just like other things on FB and Twitter if I dont want to be a part of I just scroll past, ignore or POLITELY decline. I dont jump on my high horse at other people's ideas and look down on them. Like I dont/didnt get the cryptic posts about bra color and hearts on the wall to help breast cancer. I just decline or ignore. But I did not start a thread about it nor did I put others down on their FB pages or go on news outlets and post that it is the stupidest idea ever (which I dont think it is, I just dont get it) I let people do their thing.
