I'm so mad! Non-smoking room?

Glad I didn't have to cheat. Not one of my favorite movies, but I did like that little section from it.

When you ask for something from a CM, try to remember their position. I doubt the CM had the ability to note which rooms were smoking rooms 4 months ago...although it seems that there are enough people affected by this that she perhaps it should be available to her. It is entirely reasonable to presume that she had never been in a room where someone smoked - my son never has been.

I travel nearly constantly. I've stayed two former smoking rooms. I knew one by a sign that the rehab didn't remove. The other, I saw reference to smoking rooms in hotel literature, but didn't see where they are and asked. The hotel had gone smokefree eight months earlier and I was told that my room used to be smoking. The literature was out of date. (I have comrades who smoke, so I try to be aware for their sake).

In neither room could I smell any odor or otherwise tell. It is unlikely there is any remnant of smoke remaining in these rooms.

Last I heard Disney didn't keep a list of rooms that used to be smoking/non-smoking, so unless she worked at the specific hotel for a long time (doubtful anymore) she would have no way of even knowing. However she should have nicely explained this to you instead of being rude.

Your best bet would be to find an old map (i'm sure someone somewhere will have one) and request an area that didn't have smoking rooms. Howeve this wont quarantee anything because POP room venilation systems are connected (I think 6 rooms) and disney didn't to a good job of making sure the smoking roms were only connected to other smoking rooms.

Always. There is no excuse for being rude to a CM, even if they are rude to you. A lot of Guests seem to forget that paying your money to Disney does not give you the right to abuse Disney CMs.

I ALWAYS request a room that has never been smoked in, the CM calls over to Special Reservations and they take care of eveything. I get a former non-smoking room and a special cleaning is requested at no charge to me. I walked into a formwe smoking room in june Just about a week after the new rule went into effect and almost had a heart attack, not to mention almost having an asthma attack. They moved me promptly. I won't ever take that chance again. I have to request a HC accessible for mom anyway.

We have requested a room that was never a smoking room on our upcoming trip to WL. I am hyper sensitive to smoke and get horrible headaches. The CM I spoke with didn't act like it was a big deal at all.

Before we go I am just going to make sure I make a notation from my '07 Passporter and which floors at WL used to be smoking so I can take care of it at check in if there is a problem. No sense getting to the room and then realizing we can't stay there!

Obviously I know that the CMs can't say for sure that the room has never been smoked in, however when we went to WDW in August, my sister requested a former non-smoking room and they were happy to make a note of it on the reservation, so I didn't think anything of calling about my trip next month. I have been a CM at both WDW and the Disney Store so I know how to treat a guest and I wasn't treated like a guest, I felt like she was treating me like a child. She was rude, nasty and basically very unhelpful.

Not to throw a monkey wrench into this discussion, however it's very hard for me and my family to stay in a room that may smell like smoke. I'm ok at first, however I soon get a very uncomfortable stuffy nose, a headache will creep up and soon the asthma is in full gear making it a very miserable, sleepless night. We've already had to leave hotels because, although we had a non-smoking reservation, we didn't receive a non-smoking room. I'm not a demanding person, however I dislike how I feel after a night sleeping in a room that has the smell of smoke in it.

I did call the special guest relations number and the CM was very helpful. She made a note on my reservation about a non-smoking room and also requested a special cleaning.

I can't wait for my trip!!!!!

your best bet is to just check out the room yourself when you get there.

Or do the special cleaning like someone suggested....

Disney CAN'T guarantee you a nonsmoking room....cause they don't follow
every guest around to see what they are doing.

Someone can and will smoke in nonsmoking rooms....they will pay a fine.
When you get to your room....you'll be able to tell....and they
will switch your room till it's right.

You can't expect a CM to promise the impossible.

I called last week to purchase the DDE, and the CM on the phone was so rude, I almost just said "thank for nothing" and hung up. After waiting on hold for 10 minutes though, it didn't seem worth it.

Sadly, there are alot of very rude CM's at CRO these days.

I'm not expecting the CMs to walk around and follow the guests to make sure people don't smoke in a non-smoking room, I'm just requesting that I try to get a non-smoking room for medical reasons, not because I'm trying to be a pain. Like I said in other posts, we had no problems or rude CMs when we asked about this this past summer for our reservation in August.

Unless you have the allergy to smoke, sadly you wouldn't understand how horrible you can feel after a night in a smoking room. I didn't think that my request was as outrageous as many of the posters on this thread are making it out to be.

That is a very good question...I don't even remember! My parents/sister did and I don't know when they called. It was before July 1 for sure...probably maybe April or May, but I can't say 100%. However, I know when the reservation was made, it was through AAA but my sister called Disney directly about the non-smoking room.

Your request is completely justifiable, I can tell you I do know what it is like to be sick because you get put in a former smoking room. I am hypersensitive to smoke and can smell it a mile away. You can still smell the smoke in the old rooms, the smoke has penetrated the walls and anyother items that remain in the room and it can give off a foul odor.

My upcoming trip will be the 3rd visit since the no smoking rule went into effect on June 1 and I will always demand a former non-smoking room. I will do whatever it takes to get a room that doesn't smell. I am not going to stay in a room that is going to make me sick and send me to the ER, I am there to have fun and enjoy myself and that is exactly waht I am going to do. My mom says it is too much trouble to take her because of the HA requests we have to make and I am just not going to tolerate that. We pay alot of moiney to go to Disney to have a great time and everyone should be able to do that.

No, we can't keep people from breaking the rules, but we can protect ourselves. That CM had no right to be rude to you or talk to you like they did.

Reason I ask is they did away with the smoking rooms on June 01, 2007 and slowly phased the coding for the request out of the computer systems after that..

I guess I was wondering if when the reservation was made - the designation was still there and therefore easy to apply to your reservation. Unlike now, where there is no such designation therefore.. the problems you encountered (not the rudeness that's inexcuseable, just the inability to help)

The special services number is an AWESOME find and that's definitely how it should be done in light of the lack of knowledge at CRO on this material.
