hi iam new to disboards but just wanted to say that iam so happy for my 13 year old he has been accepted to honor socety can anyone tell me if their child has been given this in junior high and what was it like for them?

Alas, all three of my kids were in NJHS (or is it JNHS) and their chapters didn't do a thing. I don't even know if they have regular meetings. But the induction ceremony is cool!

My son joined Beta Club at the end of 6th grade last year. Our Beta Club meets twice a month before school -- DS says the meetings are kind of boring. However, they also take a group of 7th and 8th graders to the Senior Center once a month to serve lunch to the seniors, DS said that was kind of ok. He said that the seniors were nice at the beginning and talked to the kids, but then the seniors started conversing among themselves and it was like the kids weren't even there.

They also have collected money and bottled water for Haiti and have helped out a few other causes over the course of the year.

It's an honor to be chosen, congrats to your son!

Congrats to your son! I don't know that the HS means as much as an activity as it does an academic achievement. My DD made it this year. I don't even think they have meetings.

Congrats to your son, that is great. I was in it in Junior High but we didn't do anything for it. My High School National Honor Society was more active and we did a lot of volunteer activities.

My DD's chapter did some community service for JNHS and then last April the JNHS went to Washington DC for 3 days. It was a great trip!

We do Beta Club here. My DD was accepted into that this year.

Congrats! That will look AWESOME on college applications! Make sure he tries to keep up with volunteer work whenever possible! That's an added bonus! :thumbsup2

In junior high our kids were supposed to do so many hours of volunteer time. Most volunteered at the elementary school's carnivals and stuff like that. They also held a couple of dances/parties for the kids that were in honor society. The induction ceremony was also a fairly nice event. Congrats to your son! :goodvibes

You have every right to feel proud :goodvibes! Congratualtion to your DS on his accomplishment :thumbsup2. We attended two of our DGS's JNHS inductions last and this year. Provided their JNHS is in working order, they will have regular meets and enjoy different service projects. It's an honor and privilege to be accepted and looks good for future endeavors. Later down the road JNHS/NHS and community activites will benefit him if he chooses college. :goodvibes

First-Congratulations! MY oldest is in it and we call it "the recycling club":lmao:
It looks good on applications-has contributed to a free ride at a prestigious, private high school, but all they really do it community service hours...Just my honest opinion...

My DD just got home last night from a 3 night 4 day trip to Washington DC with NJHS. Congrats!:flower3:

My oldest has been in NJHS since the end of 6th grade. They meet monthly, and do several fund-raising type activities (consession stands at plays/sports and such) They use the money to purchase things for the school. money towards AV equipment and a trophy case have been the projects the past 2 years.

They also form a team to walk in the Koman breast cancer walk in the fall. The team is opened up to the entire community, and raises quite a bit.

Congrats to your son.

Congrats to your son. :goodvibes

When my daughter was in JNHS they had to do a community service project together (food kitchen) & so much community service on their own.

In HS the NHS has meetings & does different community service projects as well as 10 hours of community service on their own per semester.

She will get to wear a cool looking sash when she graduates this June & it was nice to be able to write it on college applications (I think it helped her get in)

Again congratulations to your son :thumbsup2
