I'm so disappointed and I don't know what to do

I’m bummed masks are back. We went last July, September, and this past May with masks. Will you die. No...but it sure does suck. We have a trip to planned for September and I was definitely looking forward to being mask free.

Being here now, of all the things I’m bummed about- hours long lines, wall to wall crowds, no shows, no parades, limited dining, shorter park hours, rain, searing hot temps....nope, masks don’t make the list.

We have been wearing masks indoors all the time without a requirement and outside when we couldn’t avoid a mass of people ( which is often). It’s not a big deal and has not affected our trip at all. The new policy won’t affect us except to make us more comfortable being around so many people.

Might be switching to universal, they have come out and stated that they aren’t gonna require masks indoors. Disney is going to be standing alone in their decision.
And I am the other way around - I might be cancelling Universal as they don't appear to take safety as seriously. But then again, both parks are so crowded and I'd argue that they both have to do something about capacity

Yeah I’m pretty sure we got Covid from the absurd Hea crowds & we were just trying to exit the park. Had no intention of staying in that mess to watch the show.

We were at WDW the first week of June. Masks indoors, on all transportation, on all rides, and in official queues (whether they started in or outdoors). Enforcement in the outdoor portion of lines was pretty lax, but there were still social distancing markers and a much lower park attendance than what there is currently, so it'll be interesting to see if masks are required in extended queues now. We wore our masks on wrists or upper arms when we were outside. Disposable masks were much more comfortable in the heat. Lines that were most difficult to wear masks outdoors were Splash, Space, MMRW, and especially IASW. Our personal fans were lifesavers. It was doable, but the waits and crowds are very different now.

Myself and 2 sons are scheduled to go to Disney at the end of August. Just saw this announcement today:

Starting July 30th, Disney World will require all guests, regardless of vaccination status, to wear masks in an indoor locations. This includes upon entering and throughout all attractions, either indoor or outdoor.

Does this mean that we have to wear masks in outdoor lines as well? (Slinky Dog Dash for example) I'm just not sure we are willing to pay that much $ to stand in the August Florida heat with a mask on.

Assuming I'm reading the new directive correctly? I think we would still go if it just meant indoors because air conditioning makes a big difference, but in outdoor lines, I'm not so sure.

Do I need to call Disney to see about cancelling? I've already paid my full balance. Will I get that back? And I bought Boo Bash tickets. Ugh. I know I'm sounding like a whiney baby, but I'm so over wearing masks!
When we went in April it was so humid and in the 80’s and so hot with the mask on. I can’t imagine in the summer heat ugh. We are going in October and I haven’t even told my husband about the new mask update. Hoping they go back to mask optional by then.

I’m beginning to wonder if I should postpone our October trip or not… It’s going to be my first Disney trip in over 10 years and I’d prefer it to be as normal as possible, especially with the 50th going on at the same time

Illbe I'll honest; our extended family trip intended to start next week has started thst discussions too. We have some that really want to go to Universal anyways and after running the numbers we could stay at a "deluxeish" resort with express pass for basically the same price, could even end up being a bit lower than doing Disney. We have til Sat. night to make a final decision. I'm more of the Disney pusher, usually, but man they make it hard sometimes (not just this.) I'm kinda hoping they reverse course after the disaster that will be tomorrow. but part of me is also kinda feeling better to just say forget it.

I think the part that has me feeling the most blah; is that I continue to feel taken advantage of by them. In the past it was one of the things I liked most about Disney; I always felt they'd figure out a way to make me feel good about spending my money, but it keeps getting less and less. This isn't even totally about the masks per say; it's about the fact that they seem perfectly happy to inconvenience their paying guests in the name of "safety," yet aren't doing a darn thing if it takes away from their revenue. If it was even a tiny bit about safety; they wouldn't have lifted the cap on attendance so rapidly (or at the VERY least everything should have turned red once they knew the "new" dangers) they should have left rope drop the way it was, gone back to social distancing etc...but nope, just inconvenience the guests into something that's really going to do next to nothing to protect them in the grand scheme of things.

@cakebaker I totally agree with everything that you have said. Mask is really not an issue.

very well said, I have felt similar . I do hope they reverse course quickly , they sure don’t have a ton of support for it. The CM can’t be happy either because they know it’s gonna suck.

Thought about this when we were there (got back yesterday) - I understand all of the Oct 1 hoopla, but Disney really needs to do something (in my opinion) to give people a reason to stay at the parks at get their money's worth- especially in the case of DHS---
Both times we went to DHS, we caught a 11am bus, and I cant tell you how many people were getting off the bus, after already being at the park--- assuming they just went for ROTR--- but this was at all of the parks --- AK closes WAYYYY to early--- the nights we stayed at Epcot, WS wasnt crowded at all for "Epcot Forever"- MK still packed (way too crowded) for HEA, but they are really missing a nighttime parade. Again, just my .02

We visited earlier this month, during the apparently short span of time that masks were not required at all for vaccinated people and only indoors for unvaccinated. Since businesses are not allowed to ask in Florida, most people took advantage and we saw very few people wearing masks. DW and I are both vaccinated, but our girls aren't. We live in Germany, so masks are part of everyday life here still, and my girls had no issue wearing their masks (even keeping them on outside most of the time).

All that said, what made us decide we will likely not be visiting again any time soon is the crazy long lines. We visited DHS twice during our visit, and were only able to get on four attractions each day (and one was RotR both days, so no waiting for that one, so you could really say three plus a "fastpass"). This was spending a whole day at the park. MK was almost as bad. We did okay at Epcot and AK and were able to do most things at those parks, but the lines were just insane and really took away from our trip. We don't mind waiting in line for attractions, but with FP, we can alternate waiting in a long line and then a short one, so it tends feel like there is less waiting. Then the extreme heat just made it worse, as did the appearance of all the food prices doubling since our last visit ($275 for four people at a buffet is just too much!).

I'm not sure why someone would "laugh out loud" at your comment. I hope you and your family are starting to feel better. I think you have a valid point about HEA.
