We just got back from Hersheypark today, and it was 80 degrees and it felt soooo hot. I'm worried now about WDW in August!!
Does anyone know if the BWI has free ice? That way we can at least keep some cold water bottles on hand. Thanks!

I would assume that there would be ice machines available on the Inn side of BW.

I've been to Hersheypark many times and it can get hot there. But remember that they are not many places in Hersheypark to cool off. In all of the Disney parks you have air-conditioned rides, lots of gift shops, theatres and even outdoor areas that are shaded (even some with the fans with water misted through them), so it is easier to stay cool in WDW in August than Hershey, Pennsylvania in April!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong, it will be hot in August at WDW, but stay calm and try not to overdo, and most importantly, stay hydrated - one cup of water per hour at least!!!!

Have fun!!!!!

We would always go to Disney in the fall or spring. The last time we went in July. I was very concerned that it would be too hot. Well it was hot but we found it very bareable, and I don't take the heat well. As long as I had a water bottle with me I was okay. I just kept refilling the water bottle at the water fountains, staying out of the sun when possible and taking it slow. We also spent the afternoons at the resort pool and headed out to the parks again in the evening. Keep in mind by August your body will also be more used to the heat. You'll be okay! :sunny:

It's hot in Pennsylvania and New Jersey over the summer too!!!

Yes, it will be HOT in August! We went last July and were worried about the heat (especially with 2 small kids) but everything worked out just fine. We just hit the parks first thing in the morning and then took a break at the hotel in the early afternoon before returning to the parks in the late afternoon. It was still very hot in the late afternoon but it was bearable after a nice break. If the kids hadn't been with us we wouldn't have gone back to the resort; we would've just found nice cool attractions like Hall of Presidents or Innoventions or a sit-down restaurant to get us through the worst heat of the day.

We took a couple of mister fans and those made all the difference in the world. We also found that just stepping into an air conditioned shop or restaurant for a few minutes every so often would rejuvenate us surprisingly well. Also, the more water we drank, the better we tolerated the heat. We all spent some time cooling off in the interactive fountains, too!

We're going again this August. Disney in cooler and less crowded months is fabulous, but I feel there is a special magic during the summertime in spite of the heat!

I was in Six Flags today and I was wishing they were as good as Disney about cooling their guests. I think that theme parks in the Northeast are just not as prepared to deal with the heat. I was in WDW last July and we has no problem. Go to the parks in the early morning and evening. Swim in the heat of the afternoon. Yes, it's hot, but it's Disney and they make their guests as comfortable as possible. Just about everything they can possibly make air conditioned is.

Since it is hot almost everywhere in the summer, you may as well be at Disney!!

We were there last summer at the very beginning of June and at the end of July/beginning of August and I thought the weather was better in August than in June. I didn't seem quite as hot because of the cloud cover. Enjoy yourself no matter what the weather is. We spent the afternoon in the pool and saved the parks for the A.M. amd P.M.

Well - you should be scared!! Not only will it be much hotter - but there's a lot more humidity! So make sure you're prepared mentally for it as well as physically. I guess I'm getting old, because the heat just doesn't bother me that much anymore!

Just be sure and stay away from the AK in the heat of the day - it even does me in!

The humidity is definately what does you in during the summer in FL. I've been to Las Vegas and DL in August when its in the hundres, but because its that dry desert heat, it doesn't feel have as bad as WDW in the summer when it's 90 degrees and the humidity is as high as it can get.

There are alot more in door/covered queue areas in WDW than DL. So its alot easier to find shelter from the heat. You can also spend a day at DTD where the sores are air conditioned and many are connected.

I second that!! AK is definitely the hottest park at WDW, the hot air seems to get trapped there and just suffocate you!!

But, we have been to WDW many times during the summer, and while it is hot, humid, you can find relief at the air-conditioned rides, shows, shops. As previously stated, those little mister-fans are indispensable during the heat of July-August!!:sunny:

p.s. Yes, BWI has ice machines available.

This is why I'm going in December ;)

Seriously, I thought it was going to be 78 in Washington D.C. yesterday. It was 86 and I ended up with the worst sunburn on my arm. I thought I was going to collapse, and all we did was eat an outdoor lunch and go on the capitol river cruise!

Our last trip to WDW was in Sept and I was suprised how hot and humid it still was then. It felt like the middle of the summer to me.

Welcome to the South!! September is just as bad as August - and October isn't a whole lot better until the evening! We can't count on truly cool weather until December - and even then I've been known to wear shorts on Christmas Day! There's some joke about living in Georgia where the seasons are Summer, Still Summer, More Summer, Winter, Summer!

Maestro, some music please: ::yes:: A-A-Amen, A-A-Amen A-A-men! Amen, Amen! ::yes::

We've been so spoiled by going in May the last two times - it was hot enough for water parks, but not hot enough to be miserable and have to drink constantly. But with the kids getting older, it's hard for them to miss school, so it's summertime or never! I will take your advise and do the parks early in the morning and head back to the pool in the afternoon. The kids only want to go to a few choice attractions anyway, so why force them to do everything and be hot and grumpy!

We wil be there from Sept 7th-14th and I am also concerned about the heat but just for the kids. Our last three trips were in Nov. and Dec. I would never do Dec. again. The weather was so unpredictable that you would be wearing shorts in the morning and a winter coat at night. November was much better but you still had to carry light pants and a jacket at night. Plus packing for 5 was a nightmare with all the different clothes I had to take.

I am actually looking forward to only having to pack shorts and t-shirts. I am also looking forward to coming out of the pool and feeling comfortable instead of running for the nearest towel so as not to feel the chilly night air.

thanks for the encouragement
