I'm running the WDW Marathon Jan 2012! Who is with me??

I registered today, so it's official. This will be my first distance race. I've done 5k's before but always while wrangling kids. I am excited and nervous.

I'm so glad this section of the board exists, it's perfect for a newbie like me, I've already gotten so much just from reading old posts. I'm really looking forward to reading more as everyone's training moves forward in preparation of the race.

hi and congrats on signing up!!! i've done one half marathon before (the 2011 princess half) and this will be my first marathon. the dis boards are really great for support. i also found that reading about other people's experiences on race day helped me know what to expect (where to go, how early to get there, etc etc).

looking forward to training with you!

welcome blueticketmom! I think this going to be an incredible journey as we all train together!

i still haven't really been running since the princess. it's been difficult trying to get someone to watch the little guy. it's supposed to be 70 degrees today though and that means i'm busting out the jogger after naptime and taking him for a run. it is WAY harder running with that bulky thing but i just figure it'll only make me stronger. and it's how i ran all last summer (then again, he was lighter then!).

i'm really looking forward to training for the marathon. i know that many days it will suck but having the DIS during the princess training was great and a real motivator. i know it will be again for the marathon!

how is everyone doing??

how is everyone doing??

My training schedule has two days of 3-4 miles to work on speed and hills, two days of cross-training, one endurance day, and one day of rest. Every other week, I add a mile to my endurance day and then the next week I cut back. So two weeks ago my endurance day was 7 miles, then the next week was 6 miles, followed by this week's 8 miles, next week 6 miles, and so on.

I did the 2 days of 4 miles each. The first day was done in 55.5 minutes and the second day was in 53 minutes. :yay: I've also done two days of cross-training. Today is my "long" day and I'll do my 8 miles but at a bit slower pace.

I think I found the perfect snack for my long run but we'll see. I don't eat alot of simple carb's so finding something has been a challenge. I also wanted something with a bit of salt too. Thought about low sugar PB on wheat bread but figured it would get too squished. I found some flavored almonds that have some salt and a little sugar. I'll let you know how that goes.

Doing OK here. Running about 30 mpw. Running the National Half next weekend to get sort of a baseline readout on how I'm doing, time wise. Then I have seven weeks (I think) before the Brooklyn Half, which will be my last "race like hell" half before marathon training. Eek.

Nancy ~ good luck training with the jogging stroller. Yeah it will be hard but i agree it will just make you stronger. When i trained last summer for my first race I seemed to always get out there in the heat of the day. It definitely helped me. On race day, people were complaining of the heat or even getting sick along the side of the road. The heat didn't bother me at all.

Amy ~ Wowee! That's alot of mileage. I'm around the 20 mile range and that's counting cross-training. Good luck next weekend. Are you tapering this week at all?

I'm doing really well. I met a big goal of mine last weekend--I set a new PR in the 5k (a goal I had set for myself before my 29th birthday, which was yesterday) of 27.12. I had a nice recovery run on Monday, LR (6 miles) on Wednesday, BodyPump last night, and I'm planning on running with some friends that are coming to our beach house with us for the weekend tomorrow. I'm really feeling stronger now that I've added a 4th day of running to my schedule and I'm actively managed the tendonitis in my posterior tib with foam rolling, stretching and strength exercises. I've got a half marathon relay next weekend, and then I'm off to France for 2 weeks on the 31st! I'm really hoping to fit in some running while I'm there (I don't want to lose momentum!) and I want to do this informal 5k they have as part of the Paris Marathon. Should be fun!

hey everyone, I am joining in!!! Caught the Disney race bug after finishing the Wine and Dine half last year....taking the plunge to enter my first full marathon in 2012 at WDW!!! I am so excited and nervous!! :goodvibes

Understand that. I sat there and cried after I hit the submit button. No idea why, it was just overwhelming.

Its a very overwhelming moment!! I bet the race will be even more emotional as well, im the girl who cries at the Disney vacation commercials where they show families surprising each other with trips!!

Guilty! I was watching Disney commercials on Youtube this morning, and started bawling! I also had to really fight to hold tears back at the start of the princess. I probably would have actually cried at the finish if I wouldn't have stopped short of the finish line for a picture with mickey and minnie.

Sounds like everyone is getting excited and signing up and all. I have a schedule going for my Long miles. I had to work out some other races I have signed up for... Oct W&D relay, a 10K, the Spacecoast Half and then the Disney Full, so trying to work around those makes planning a schedule a bit hard, but I think I got it down.

I saw the podiatrist on Thursday for a last "talk" before surgery on my big toe (joint). Surgery is April 1st. Got to see the xrays and discuss what they are going to do. Chilectomy, with a cut in the toe-joint bone to help with having more flexibility in the joint and a pin to help it all heal in place properly. (metatarsal is out of place). We discussed healing and getting back out there. I can't drive (right foot) until after my first visit to see him. I will be in a boot most of the time and a surgical shoe for only driving purposes. Boot for about 4 weeks, but we'll see how I am healing (and how antsy I get). He said there should be NO reason why I can't train and do a FULL marathon in January 2012. Now I just need to sign up and hit the submit button- and I do have to say that with all the half marathons I have done, hitting the button kind of hard. You have now set it in stone and there is no turning back!

When does everyone's official training for the full start?

it sounds like everyone is well on their way to having a great marathon! awesome!

i went out yesterday with DS in the jogger since it was 70 degrees out here! it was SO hard to run with that thing. the gusts by the water were out of control and this little boy has gotten bigger and heavier since the last time i was jogging with him back in october.

still, i managed to get in 4 miles and it was a great workout. i did 40 min on the elliptical this morning and was sweating like a piggie.

lor - that sounds like a really good training schedule and one that i might have to copy!

amy - that's a ton of mileage! you go girl!

oh and you guys that got emotional when signing up? yeah, count me as on of the saps too! i think most of my tears were from fear though! i was so happy i had my sunglasses on when i got to the finish line at the princess half. you know when people say, "choked up"?? yeah now i really know what they mean. the combo of being totally exhausted and so completely happy that i finished really got me choked up. so much so that i could barely breathe! can't wait for that feeling of accomplishment again!

Tough running make for easier races!! This is the time of year that I really love afternoon running. Soon here in Houston the temps will be in the mid-80s as I make my run. Then in June, the glorious 90's. August is a little tough but the heat hardens the body and the mind. I just wish my real job had shower facilities...I would get the run out of the way at lunch.

With the stroller, make sure to alternate left and right pushing. You do not want to build up only on one side.

DW signed us up this past week. Her for the Half again and me for Goofy again. Already have reservations at FW again.

I signed up this week for my first full marathon! I'm excited and scared. And I also felt pretty emotional about signing up. A year ago I started the Couch-to-5k. Then I somehow signed up for the Disney 1/2 Marathon (for 2011). I said that I didn't really aspire to run a full marathon. I was just happy to be running a 1/2. Then I ran the 1/2 and saw all those Mickey and Goofy medals and decided I could do it. So here I am!
I'm running the More Magazine 1/2 marathon here in NY in 2 weeks. And then I'm looking for a fall 1/2 marathon (can't do W&D, sadly). I'm planning to really start my marathon training in July (26 week plan) but hoping to have another race or 2 to help me stay motivated and focused.

If you keep that positive attitude, sounds like you should have no issue running the full in Jan 2012!! :goodvibes I will make sure to send lots of positive vibes your way on April 1st (my bday so I wont forget!!) :thumbsup2 and here is to a quick recovery!!!
