I'm rethinking doing Remy

I have a dinner booked for my upcoming cruise in December at Remy. I'm starting to second guess myself and I'm considering cancelling it. It's a lot of money and the cruise is only 4 nights. I've been to Victoria and Albert's a few times and I'm not sure if this can live up to it. I also like how you can customize the menu at V&A and I don't think you can do that at Remy?

Should I keep the reservation or cancel it?

As someone who has dined at both I recommend you do not skip Remy. The service is equally excellent at both restaurants. The experience is also equally enchanting but more unique at Remy. The decor, view and atmosphere at Remy is beautiful and a step above Victoria & Albert’s. The food at both is also excellent but Remy edges out V&A in my most humble opinion. Don’t miss it.

Remy is easily the equal of V&A's, plus it is onboard a cruise ship. I don't know how they provide such an elegant meal for such a low price. We have been able to customize our meal every time we have been there, and the wait staff is so friendly and accommodating. You can't do everything, and on a 4 night cruise you have to pick and choose, but if you like world class dining at an very affordable price, Remy is your choice. You can easily spend a LOT of money there with wine, truffles, etc, but you can have an elegant meal for just the set price.

If you aren't into elegant dining, Remy wouldn't be for you. But if you appreciated V&A's, go to this restaurant with half the menu designed by V&A's chef.

Can we pick and choose items on the menu? I always do the 7 course at V&A because it gives me choices. I know there are two menus the French and American. There were certain items I know I wouldn't like so I was wondering if I could substitute them with something else?

Yes You can tailor your meal anyway you prefer among the menus. We've had dinner 3x at Remy plus once for brunch and were able to pick and choose at will.

Can't compare with V&A but I think the menu have been created by the same chef.

You definitely can customize the menu at Remy. They've always made it work for us.

But it's definitely gonna take two to three hours of your time unless you say something to the server. And yes, it is expensive.

We've done both V&A and Remy. Yes, they are a very comparable experience. Remy easily measures up to V&A.

Thanks everyone I decided to keep the reservation

I'm glad you decided to keep your reservation. I understand it's a bit expensive but I always like to try things once because you never know when you'll be back. Have a wonderful cruise.

I know there is always talk about how expensive Remy is but we find it an incredible value for a meal of this quality at the price they charge.

I find V&A to be just a titch better than Remy's mostly because they have access to more fresh produce and proteins than Remy. But only a titch. They have a French and an American version of the menu, but I'm allergic to seafood so I was told that I could create my own menu or just substitute the seafood courses from one of the two menus. I chose to do the latter (both of the times that we've been for dinner). The server made a recommendation of what to substitute so that the progression remained relatively similar. This last time, our server recommended the champagne pairing instead of the wine pairing for me because I said how much I liked champagne when he was making the champagne cocktail that's part of the upcharge. Loved it! I had never considered a champagne pairing for an entire meal but it was amazing. I should note that we've also done the champagne brunch and dessert experience once each and they were also both fantastic.

I didn't care for our Remy brunch due to the lack of choices. I much preferred Palo.

I actually found Remy better than Victoria & Albert's. I have been to several restaurants that do tasting menus, and Remy's is a stand out. Victoria & Albert's is quite dark. You can't beat the view from Remy at sunset.

Now I'm sad that we're sailing a classic ship for our first voyage.

Oh well, just means we'll need a second.

Remy was an absolutely extraordinary meal, and for the price it can't be beat. In NYC that meal would be $400 at least.
