I've been reading up on buying points from a DVC member but just don't get it.

We want to go to BWI during last week of Feb. (peak season). Would it be cheaper to buy points and stay BWV??

I'm a little leary about the "contract" between two private parties.... how exactly does this work?

When you stay at BWV do you have maid service? Or is it like being in a private condo.

Sorry for being so unimformed. I'd appreciate any help on this or tell me where else to read on the DIS boards. Thanks so much!:o

I will attempt to answer your questions....

You can often rent points from a DVCr for around 10 bucks a point. There are many ways to do it and that depends on you and the owner. A lot of people request a deposit... some requet payment in full. Either way you should be able to contact MS and confirm the ressie is in your name.

DVCrs get trash and towels on the forth day of the visit and Maid service and T&T for a stay longer than 8 days. You can pay for extra maid service if you so desire.

I am thinking someone will move this tread..... If not try asking your question over in the DVC board or the rent/trade board.

Hope I helpped some.

Check out the DVC board. They will be better able to answer your question.

There is a calculator, so you can figure out how many points you would need to rent.

DVC points are only good at the Boardwalk Villas not the Inn. Once they built DVC we can no longer use points at the Inn. Other than lack of maid service...you will not be disappointed in the Villas. Once the Beach club villas are finished...we will not be able to use pts at the "reg" beach club either. Worth noting....it is "cheaper" points wise to use DVC resorts as opposed to the other Disney hotels. Costs more pts for less room. Good Luck.

Definitely check out the DVC Rent/Trade Board. You can find a lot of answers there.

In short, renting DVC points from an owner can be a very good deal and will usually be cheaper than booking a room for cash. However, you do not have the same flexibility as a regular reservation when it comes to changing or cancelling your trip. Chances are you will also have to pay for your stay when the reservation is made, although some members will work out terms.

A 7 night stay in a studio at the BWV at the end of Feb would require either 111 or 134 points, depending on view. At $10 per, that would be $1,110 or $1,340 for the week, $158 or $191 a night total. Given that rack rate for a studio is $269 plus tax, that is a pretty good deal. I have seen studios at BWV with a code as cheap as $199 per night, but that is still more than renting points. Yo can get as many or as few nights as you need. If you happen to only need week nights (Sun - Thurs) you can get the room as cheap at 11 points or $110 per night - a real steal!

You don't get daily maid service, but you can purchase it for $25 a night if you find it necessary.

The basic process involves you finding a member with available points (easy to do thru the DVC Rent/Trade Board), having the member make a reservation in your name and provide you with a confirmation number and written confirmation, and you paying the member for the points. You do have to be a little trusting when it comes to renting points. However, the member renting the points is taking a risk, too. It is nice to know that there has never really been a problem with rentals arranged thru this site. Some members may provide rental agreements that might give something more in the way of assurances.

We rented points from a member last year to stay at VWL. It worked out great. So great that we bought DVC ourselves. I have recently rented points to people and it has worked out very well for everyone involved. Feel free to PM me if you have more questions. Good luck.

Thanks for all the responses, I understand much clearer now. It certainly is something to consider!

Thanks everyone!:)
