Well, I'm Canadian and I've always wondered about something. I've read numerous polls and had discussions with many people about the election, and it seems like the majority of people outside the USA favor Obama.
Does this ever factor into your decision on who to vote for? I know you must vote for which party will best represent your views, but the US has a major impact on the world, and right now the world wants Obama.

I know I've talked to several people, and in all seriousness, I have not met one republican supporter, mainly due to Palin.

Thoughts?

No:flower3:

DH and I went to Italy in early October and met people from all over the world. All had the same reaction.....all for Obama, all scared to death of Palin. A couple of them were just horrified....lol! They couldn't even begin to understand why we'd vote the same party back in when you consider what has happened to our economy and to our status in the rest of the world.

I think that's part it.....you need to travel a bit to see how others *really* see us. Then it hits you how much we've slipped with respect to standing in the world.

As to your question, I'm a moderate Republican, voting for Obama. I do worry about our place in the world. There is a big faction within the party though, that don't care about our standing in the world. And we have a *big* right wing media machine that really influences how they think and vote. It's very scary stuff. I mean, we had a right wing loud mouth TV talk host (Bill O'Reilly) who actually started a "boycott France" campaign. I have in-laws who are die-hard republicans who wouldn't travel there as a result.

I have faith that we'll get back on track though....and regain our former glory. It will surely take some time, but with the right leader we'll get there!

CNN did a story on this, and found the same thing. But didn't factor into my decision. :goodvibes

Why would I care what a non-citizen thinks of our election?
Personally I am "scared to death" of an Obama presidency. He seems to want to change everything about our way of life. Why does that appeal to Americans? His plans have a feeling to me of an overthrow of our government. Scary.

Man, the word "scared" is the only thing that "scares" me.:lmao:

It does impact my vote but not in the way you'd think. I do not believe the rest of the world has America's best interests at heart. In fact, I feel most of the world would enjoy seeing us struggle. I have this nagging feling that the world wants to see America fall. Seeing that most of the world wants Obama cements my decision that John McCain is the man for the job. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

GO MCCAIN!!!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

right wing media machine?

Fox News and Limbaugh.

Pay no attention to the combined influence of the Big 3 networks, CNN, MSNBC, all the major newspapers, Time, Newsweek, NPR, etc. That pales in comparsion....

I agree Family Fun Mom. I think the rest of the world loves to see us infighting amongst ourselves and would love to see us fail. I agree that they do not have our best interests at heart. But as to the original question ... I listen to others, I have friends in other countries and have been to visit them. I listen to all opinions, both here and abroad. But I make my own personal decision as to what I feel is best for my family and my country. That's why I'm a registered Independent!

I know the rest of the world are unhappy with American right now, but does it matter? When any country in the world is in trouble, regardless of who the president is, they don't hesitate to take our help or our money.

Not one bit.

I do consider what the rest of the world thinks of a candidate for President of the United States. We live in a global world. We have to, as a country, work with others in order to keep our economy strong. The crisis we are going through now is a good example of why we need a leader who is respected abroad.

I am fascinated by foreign coverage of the US elections and do enjoy hearing what others outside of the USA think about our candidates. When I vote, however, I vote for the candidate who I believe is best for the USA.

Ahhh... No! I've lived in 3 different foreign countries in my lifetime and strongly feel that foreigners don't have America's best interest at heart, so why would I take their opinion on my President???

Isn't this one of the big things that both candidates talk about? Foreign Relations/Policy? :confused3

I would think that we might at least consider the thought of what other countries think...considering we are trying to make amends with many of them right now...

Not that it would be the ultimate factor in deciding my vote, but it would be a factor I would at least weigh.

Absolutely! I think it is obvious who the terrorist groups would like as our leader.

Generalize much?! You actually believe that the "rest of the world" enjoys seeing the U.S. struggle and wants to see it fall?!?!?! Wow. I can't imagine living with such an isolationist view of the world.

Gee, after seeing the results of America's failure to adequately regulate its banking sector, I'm just giddy to see what America's next failure might be.:thumbsup2 Just imagine how much the rest of the world will be gloating as our retirement savings drop even further into the crapper. Frankly I couldn't care less who you elect, as long as you elect someone who can help restore your economy (and, by extension, the rest of the world's).

If you want to elect a woman as VP who is all for changing the social fabric of your nation, you go right ahead...doesn't affect me and my "socialist" nation one bit. I, frankly, would fight tooth and nail, however, to prevent it in my own country (if we actually had a VP ;) )
