We're staying in a studio now, after mostly one bedrooms, at HHI. Besides the expected laundry, stove, and two TVs, here's what I miss-

1. No ice? I called the front desk and they found me one ice cube tray. Otherwise, they said, I'd have to go down to the ice machine on the first floor.

2. Four paper plates and sets of silverware in here? First morning, DH and I each used a plate and fork for our breakfast. So now we have 2 of each left. Are we supposed to wash and re-use paper plates? Or can we get more without paying?

3. And I miss the little area by the door, with the bench and hooks, at HHI 1 BRs (and I expect in 2 BRs). So now where do I hang my jacket and visor?

4. What's with the light switch by the bed? It's so far away that I have to lean way out of bed to turn off the light and I'm afraid I'll fall out of bed. In 1 BRs, there's a lamp and a bedside table.

At least we already did an add-on to avoid studios in the future, but we already had this reservation before we did the add-on.

You're right, the fridges are supposed to have one small ice tray if they have a freezer compartment - it's what they're shipped with. Glad they found you one. It's difficult for studio goers who love ice, but can't think of another solution other than buying an ice chest and filling it. Confession: I'm an ice addict and never really noticed this, probably because at first I couldn't drink the tap water at the studios and got used to not having it (I built up an immunity to it now and don't think it tastes bad).

You can usually get more paper plates by asking the housekeeper. Only once was I read the riot act about "4 to a studio." I tend to wash and re-use the paper plates and silverware just in my small attempt to be "greener". (actually, I bring our own real silverware and bowls now).

3. And I miss the little area by the door, with the bench and hooks, at HHI 1 BRs (and I expect in 2 BRs). So now where do I hang my jacket and visor?

Oh! I haven't stayed @ HHI, but I like the 1brs there already just from this! I They should add a hat/jacked hat and hook rack to the wall near the door. We should have this at all studios.

Strange, I can't think of a reason they'd have it like that, sounds a little dangerous for some visitors who could really get hurt by a bump.

At least we already did an add-on to avoid studios in the future, but we already had this reservation before we did the add-on.

Hi Simba's Mom :) Hope you're enjoying HHI! I have yet to visit, but I'm dying to visit. Has Shadow been around?

Those 1 br and up units are fantastic. I'm debating calling and switching our next trip up from a studio, Haven't as I adore the studios at Kidani but also love getting in extra trips.

See my comments in Indigo above. :goodvibes

I hear ya Simba's Mom. I think I've become extremely spoiled. I want to stay in a 1 BR all the time now. I stayed alone in a studio at BCV in March & I was really missing my 1 BR. No full sized coffee maker. What is up with those tiny coffee makers in the studios? I also really missed having laundry in the room. Sounds strange to say I want to do laundry while on vacation, but I had wet clothes after getting stuck in the rain so it would have been nice. DH & I are going down on Memorial Day weekend & I booked a 1 BR at OKW. Can't wait to see what it's like with just 2 people in those giant 1 BRs. I think from now on it will be 1 BRs all the way unless I'm really short on points or it's just 1 person in the room.

Enjoy the rest of your trip!

At least we have a full-sized coffee maker. And I'll admit it-I'm just plain spoiled!
I forgo to mention that the refrigerators are different from what I've seen before. There's a seperate door for the refrigerator and freezer sections, just like in a regular refrigerator, just lots smaller. Just no ice cube trays!

It's so hard when you're used to the 1 bedrooms. What I would miss most is the washer and dryer. We use the heck out of it, and pack so much less on trips. But, with the points savings, I can see why they are so popular and go fast! I haven't done the math, but I would assume the 1 bedrooms are the worst use (or most expensive use) of your points. Just guessing. I am sure someone has figured that out and would be interested. :surfweb:

:cutie: I love our studios because when compared to a room at Pop or ASMo (which is where we were before DVC).....they are fantastic. Now I have a cold drink without the trec to the ice machine and I can keep extra ice trays in my OL. If I ever stay in a one bedroom that would be the Taj Mahal. So far we are happy. Yes we still love Pop, stayed there for our first night last trip...but Kidani it is not.

...my support for you having to stay in a studio. :thumbsup2

;) I also forgot to mention I get to watch whatever I want to on the plasma TV in the laundry room. DH always, ALWAYS has Stacy or the park hour channel on in the room, after the first 15 minutes...I am :sad2:. So I just sit in laundry with a cold beverage and have a great vacation....yeah, I know my glass is always half full.

I always do too! DW gets tired of it right away too.

I have asked MANY times for extra plates----no charge---just call Housekeeping.
Enjoy your stay !

Funny how things change - huh? We bought into SSR at 150 points, and felt we would be happy with a studio. That was 2003, and we have stayed in a studio only once, our first visit. It was fine before we knew of the comforts of a one or two bedroom :lmao:

We have not gone back to a studio since, and have spent the last few years borrowing and depleting our funds :guilty:

At some point I hope to add on (I will only do cash, no financing), and our daughter is getting older, so I need to gauge how our vacations might change before adding-on more points. If we end up going every other year, our 150 may be just fine for us. I hope to continue to go yearly, as I just love being in WDW.

Dont see us going back to a studio unless we have to - oh well

Shhhh, don't let my DH hear you. We stayed in a one bedroom last trip because they were no more studios available for our last minute trip. Our next stay is at VGC two bedroom. My DH asked me if we had enough points for a one bedroom for our next WDW trip IF we go this year. He is so spoiled now.

Between the desk and the house services they've always been helpful.

Never been to HHI, but have gone back and forth between studios & one-bedrooms at various WDW resorts...

First: A HUGE plus for SSR: the studios there have a wall hanging w/hooks on it that I use for our jackets & caps (and rain ponchos)...no other resort has those and I love them...one of the things I miss most about SSR when we're not staying there. I do think there are few "negatives" about any WDW resort, but one is a lack of "hanging space" for outer wear or something that's gotten damp...it's particularly a lack at AKV/Jambo...for some reason, I've been able to find a hanging spot at BWV, BCV, BLT, OKW (never stayed at WLV)...but not at AKV/Jambo...

Next: For one person, a studio (for me anyway) is actually preferable...I don't mind going to the laundry room (and I usually wash at least once so I can go home "clean"), and I like to fall asleep while "hanging out"...so having to get up to go to bed is a "lesser" experience for me than just lying down on the bed, watching tv, and as sleep arrives, turning off lights & tv (or falling asleep w/them still on)...

Finally: For two or more people, I do like the one-bedrooms better...gives each person a place to "be" when the other wants to sleep (or do something different)...my DS and I are on different "clocks" (he's a 23-year-old law student; I'm a near-retirement "old person")...I get up early, he goes to bed late...we manage just fine when points allow only a studio...but the one-bedroom is much better--gives us each a bit of privacy, too...

I admit I do prefer "real dishes" but I don't really mind the paper dishware...

Anyway, regardless of the type of DVC accommodation, I'd rather be there than here! Hope you have a great "budget" (points for a studio rather than 1-Bed) vacation!

I've stayed in a studio at SSR, OKW and BWV when traveling with 2 people and had no problem with any of them. When it's just DW and me, I like the points savings and the rooms are fine. When I went with my brother we stayed at an OKW studio for the two beds and like that too.

When we go as a family the one bedrooms are nice and the two bedrooms are spacious.

So far so good, next up VWL and BLT studios for me and DW in Sept.

I am so with you on this one.

We recently returned from a spring trip and were in a studio at BLT for the first few nights - OMG I forgot how tiny those rooms are! For 3 of us- me, DD(18) and DS(11) it was just way too cramped:headache: Thank goodness we were out most of the time.

After that we moved into a 1BR at BCV and the difference was just amazing - so much space and everything we needed:cloud9:

Just wish I had enough points to never have to do a studio again.

I am spoiled also, We still do studios but only for short splits most of the time, although in our upcomming visit better than half is in studios (unless I can pick up some cheap rented points before hand). 1,2br and GVs are just so easy to get comfortable in.

I honestly think the only reason I was able to convince DH to buy in was because we stayed last Feb in a 1 bedroom on points my boss let me use :goodvibes now he says he'll never do a smaller room.... :rotfl2:
