First off, let me say that I'm truly excited for America today, and I really mean that. We have finally broken the color barrier for the presidency and that is an historical moment. To think that merely 140 plus years after the fall of slavery a black man is now president, or rather will be president. This is also a great day because of the peaceful transfer of power that happens here in America. Also the pomp and ceremony that happens, something I eat up, so I love it when the inauguration comes around. Now having said that, I know that is an inauguration and that this day only happens once every 4 years and more specifically that this is Obama's day, and I wish him well. However, I'm getting tired of the all Obama all the time on TV and everywhere else I turn. It's an Obama love fest and its getting to be a bit much. I'm sure I'm going to be berated by some Obama supports, and that fine, I expect it. And honestly, don't give a rat’s posterior what anyone else thinks. I've talked to Obama supporters here at work who thinks the same way. Anyone else feel this way? If not, I just had to vent. Thanks for listening.

No berating from me. :goodvibes I thought the first part of your post (that I bolded) was exceptionally reasonable, diplomatic, and mature, and given some of the craziness that I've seen posted here recently, it was really nice to see such a sincere response.

If Obama had lost, and McCain/Palin won, I'm sure I'd be feeling the same way as you in regards to coverage. I am sure you're not alone. Heck, I'm a huge Obama supporter and I'm willing to bet I'll get a little bored with it eventually. ;)

I agree. I wish him the best as well as our country, God knows we need it. But I will be soooooo glad when it's over. I'm tired of half the news broadcasts being about Obama and this celebration. What about the news-news? We are missing out on important news by all the air time being spent on this. Enough already. I'm done.

I agree - I posted another thread about our local news - we are having a major weather system and I would love to see some local news - traffic, road conditions, etc. at least a little!

The boards are tilted so far to the left they nearly tipped over today - that thread is gone!

MTE!

I agree.

His inauguration is proof positive that anyone can suceed in this country if they work hard, regardless of race, creed, culture, religion (did I miss anything?).

I am glad his supporters get their day to celebrate.

Hope they are ready to get back to work tomorrow though.

:)

Its overdone, overblown, over budget and over the top!

I can appreciate your point of view and I can understand wanting to vent.
This is truly the first inauguration that I have had a chance to sit down and watch (I'm hoping recovering from surgery) so this is extremely exciting for me.

I'm just very to see how smoothly the transition is from President to President - no wars, no death, just a peaceful change. I support Obama and I'm excited to see what he is going to do next. However, regardless of who won the presidency, today would be a historic day. :)

Oh, I absolutely agree! I do believe that this is a day for celebration for Obama supporters. I don't begrudge them their day at all. I know that the day will come again when I will be just as excited about my candidate's inauguration.

However, the coverage is absolutely over the top. ::yes:: I really hope that things calm down and go back to normal in the next few days. I think it is a bit much for almost everybody.

I too will be glad when it's over, I'm not a supporter but I did vote for him...actually, I didn't vote FOR him but more AGAINST McCain:) What bothers me more than the "love fest" is how much more divided the two parties seem to have become during this election as is evidenced right here on the Dis:guilty:

I completely agree with your post - the entire post. :thumbsup2

I will make a confession, too - I am torn between wanting him to fail and wanting him to succeed. However, I am leaning more to wanting him to succeed, because I am scared to death of what will happen if he fails.

I am so tired of all the coin commercials and all of the coverage. I, too, am tired of the "love fest" going on. Thankfully, I take care of kids in my home, so it's the Disney Channel on most of the day today. The History Channel had some great programs on last night about the history of the Presidency from Washington on. We watched that with the kids to reinforce what this country was founded on. I learned quite a bit that I hadn't known before.

I'll be glad when all of this dies down. However, I won't hold my breath. ;)

Michelle :flower3:

I agree!

Today is a normaly day for me, nothing special. No special "celebrations", meals, outfits, buttons, yard signs.

In fact, I am going out of my way to NOT watch the inauguration.

While many others are excited, I am very sad about today.

I can't wait for it all to be over with.

I had enough yesterday and today is WAYYYY too much :badpc:

Your thread is not gone :confused3 it has dropped to page 2 because nobody replied to you.
So I guess the boards haven't tilted that far to the left after all.

ITA :)

I'm happy for him, happy for the country but I will also be glad when it's not all Obama, all the time.

I agree that the historical nature of this particular swearing in is certain worthy of applause... but I also agree with your other comments. However, I'm not too big on the pomp part of the equation. I didn't watch Bush's swearing in either, so I'm consistent on that part today. I'll be content to read about it. But I agree that the media's going over the top big-time on the event. It seems from what I've read so far like the networks and major papers have been taken over by the staff of Tiger Beat magazine! I think the ultimate was when I heard on-the-air NPR say they had commissioned several poets to write poems about Obama that would be read on the air leading up to the inauguration.

I don't mind the spending, or today's wall-to-wall coverage. It was the same for 2001... just please dial the "gushing" back a bit!

I didn't vote for him. But in about 90 minutes he will become my President. I watch every inauguration regardless of who I voted for. It is living proof that our government works, that we can have a peaceable change of power every 4 or 8 years. That if you don't like the current occupant of the office, you can always work to get someone else elected the next time, and know that if you succeed, that the person you worked for will be allowed to take over.

So while I still wish the outcome had been different, I do celebrate the occasion.

The 24/7 Obama lovefest is driving me insane. :scared: I have been ready to move forward since November 5, 2008. :coffee: Unfortunately, it seems as if we are on a permanent Obama hype loop. I'm over it and can't even watch tv today, or the news yesterday (was there anything covered other than the coronation, er--I mean, inauguration) for that matter. At least there is HGTV ;) and the like. :happytv: Yesterday, I watched a good bit of House Hunters International--all warm weather locations! :thumbsup2

It is my fervent wish that after today we get back to the business of the country and not the deification and excessive adoration of Obama!

I would just really like to open a magazine and not have the opportunity to buy my very own Obama figurine or collector's plate.
