I'm making a confession...

I agree!

Today is a normaly day for me, nothing special. No special "celebrations", meals, outfits, buttons, yard signs.

In fact, I am going out of my way to NOT watch the inauguration.

While many others are excited, I am very sad about today.

I can't wait for it all to be over with.

Me too. I feel sick about what is happening and I do not want to see a minute of this either. I went to my daughters school this morning to volunteer in the hopes I could just avoid it. As far as I knew the school was NOT showing it. Well, they did. So I came back home.
:sad1:

I agree totally with the OP's observations.

But one thing that I find that is so sad throughout this entire election, is that people behave like they are rooting for a football team rather than for the office of the POTUS.

When someone's candidate wins, it is seems like it is "oh good, my guy won!" and the same goes for the losers, sad that the other guy won.

I for one am more concerned about my country rather than whether or not my guy won (my guy didn't even make it to the election, but that is another story  ).

It is for that reason I hope and pray (I have prayed for Obama ever since he was elected, many nights now) that Obama is the best president we have ever had. I hope he is so good, that a second term is desired by all. God..country...president.

And I look forward to a unified country, one that holds respect for the office of the POTUS.

I also feel a bit sick as to what's going on in this country today. :sad2:

I turned the tv on briefly, only to see obama bid farewell to George Bush and it made me cry.

I just hope and pray that when the terrorists DO strike that none of my family members will be affected.

I guess today is the perfect day to add my "Yes we can...Impeach Obama" sticker to my car, hey? ;)

And I'll say the same thing that I have been saying to those that were calling for Bush to be impeached. For what? Until he does something that is a basis for impeachement, you shouldn't be calling for it. Impeachement is not a method of recall.

I realize that this is the conservative thread (I think...), and I am a conservative, but I think that comment is a very sad one.

Signing off now.......

It's very over the top, but the one thing I know about the American media is that they love to build people up as pop icons, and then tear them down. Of course President Obama can't live up to this hype. The only certainty we have is that human beings are deeply, deeply flawed, and we learn of the flaws in our "heroes" sooner and harder than most. I imagine that President Obama would like to tone it down, and probably will in the weeks ahead. There is nothing more fickle than a screaming crowd enthused with the energy of the mob. Hysterical adulation, however, is generally very short-lived, especially in politics.

Its overdone, overblown, over budget and over the top!

Nothing is too much to anoint the savior of the universe!

If McCain had been elected and spent so much money on an inauguration the media would have been all over him. Then again, the crowds wouldn't have been as large because there would have been far less idol worship...

Can we put bumper stickers showing Obama's last day in office? ;)

I just find the way some people seem to "worship" him just to be a little too over the top and freakishly cultish. I haven't watched any of it today. Thank goodness for Tivo.

Living in NY and having been affected by 9/11, your post is truly sad. Not agreeing with the policies of the president is one thing, but condescendingly counting on another terrorist attack just so you can say "I told you so" is SICK. Do you really care so little for America? I'm sorry that Obama wasn't your candidate but having so little support for the safety of our nation is truly disrespectful not only to the country, but to it's people.

Anyway, I think it's a good thing that you can turn on the TV and see the president, and so many people who support and love our country. Isn't it a good thing that so many people are getting involved, and that the spotlight's on our nation's leader rather than Britney Spears?! At least this is something of substance that actually matters.

It's sad to see all of this money sunk into fancy lunches and glamorous evening balls when more and more people are being laid off daily. With our country at war and an economic crisis at hand, I think it would have been appropriate to tone things down a bit and get to work.

I completely agree with your post - the entire post. :thumbsup2

I will make a confession, too - I am torn between wanting him to fail and wanting him to succeed. However, I am leaning more to wanting him to succeed, because I am scared to death of what will happen if he fails.

How can any American want their president to fail???
I could not stand Bush-but as an American I would always hope for the best. Even if I disagreed with Bush, I would only want and pray for success for my country and never failure. Does it really matter if its a Democrat or a Republican that brings success?
That is really a disappointing statement in this day of hope.

I am hoping for selective failure there are many things that he wants to do that I absolutely disagree with and I hope that he is unsuccesfull in implementing those things. That doesn't mean I want the country to fail, it means that I don't believe that success follows the same path that he does.

Moving to another country helps too.;) I have missed the entire thing.

When both the NFL network and ESPN run specials about Obama, then I'd have to say YES, it is way over the top.
If I want political coverage I turn to a News network, if I want sports coverage, I turn to a sports network. True most news networks do cover sports stories as well, but sports are news. What does a political candidate have to do with sports that would merit a half hour special? (unless it is about Obama playing sports, but it wasn't, it was just more of the media slobbering that was being spread to all channels - just in case you happened to miss it I guess.).

I can only hope by the time the SuperBowl gets here, that the love-fest has died down enough that there isn't some half hour special or anything.

When viewed through the prism of 5000+ years of recorded history and the fact that slavery was last outlawed in the Western Hemisphere in 1888 (Brazil) & 1981 in the other half (Mauritania-chattel slavery but slavery nonetheless), I say it is something to be celebrated.

Do not hold your breath for any of these other countries who abolished slavery since 1888 to see the light anytime soon. For now, that light shines brightest in the United States of America. :thumbsup2

Again, my guy did not win the Presidency, but I see the election of a Black American as President as one heck of a consolation prize.

His policies? We can talk about that later. ;)

I felt that way with the two previous inagurals. What I did was change the channel. I managed to completely avoid both events
