I'm losing my patience with Disney as a Canadian customer!

I posted a few days ago about just finding out that many email communications such as Disney Insider, Family Fun, Disney Store to name a few, are not being delivered to International guests. I emailed Disney for an explanation, and here is their response:

"Thank you for contacting Walt Disney World Resort!

Please be assured that we will forward your comments to the appropriate area. The restriction is not a technical one, but a business policy one and we will make sure to share your concerns. If you have questions or need further assistance, feel free to contact us."

To add fuel to the fire, I just called Disney Magazine to ask about a promo us DVC members get (2 years for $10.00). Guess what - we can get this promo as Canadians, but they add $12.00 to the total for delivery! Although I love Disney, I am losing my patience with their US only attitude. It's ok to take our money for products, movies, tickets, DVC, resorts, toys, etc... but they can't email us newsletters, promos, etc... because they have made a "business decision" not to do so! Last time I checked, it didn't cost money to send. out email newsletters to Canada. What's even more silly is that I received another email that said that they located another account of mine (didn't realize I had two), and this account was registered as a US account, and so I received the newsletters that I have been trying to receive for over a year now, yesterday!

It's all very confusing since they've made a business decision not to email other countries, but they then tell guests to register for separate accounts as US citizens in order to receive specific emails??? They even told me it would be ok to maintain both accounts. I don't get it!

Anyway, just wanted to pass this info along as I see that others have been wondering about missed emails from WDW as well.

I completely agree with you. It does seem like they have a US only attitude. Too bad that they don't seem to understans that international travellers not only help them to make a profit, but also to fuel their economy.
Additionally, what they are telling you doesn't seem to make any sense. If you have a US account, it's ok, even though they are aware that you are Canadian?
Plus, you are a DVC member, and you should have access to the same benefits as everyone else, without penalty! You have paid for that benefit, then some with the exchange.
It's unfortunate, really it is. I cannot comprehend, yet, in everything we do, do you think Disney will change?

I agree with you completely! I was kind of upset that Canadians were not part of the recent resorts discount e-mail :( I know it's not guaranteed even if you are in the US ... but it's really not fair that we weren't even included. It also sucks that they canceled the Disney Club and replaced it with the Disney Visa... I'm also hoping that they will change their attitude sometime soon.

Anytime I get a confirmation or such from Disney,

THEY ALWAYS STICK A DISNEY VISA APPLIACTION IN!

HELLO!

I Can't Get the Damn Thing, So Why Waste A Tree to Send Me the Application!

Ok, Vent Over!

The Disney VISA isn't that great of a deal either. I LOVED the MK club and the Disney Club. I so wish they'd bring them back.

the extra money 12$ in this case is not disney being greedy, it is our government getting a bite at the apple again for the "goods and service" we are receiving from the united states, somewhere in there is additional postage too i think

this is one reason why we have a buffalo mailing address ...we are over enough to get gas and milk ( 2$ us a gallon for 1% ), that we have more than saved enough to pay for the box from not having to pay the "added" fees when you subscribe to something in the states

wonder how many own timeshares in the states who are hit with the GST each time they make an exchange approximately 13$ GST just for exchanging something you own in the states

no wonder there is such a surplus......they just keep "sucking" the GST from our pockets

That's what you get for voting the liberals in

you mean the FIB erals or CON servatives

does not matter which .....they both seem to be cut from the same cloth.....the FIBS and the CONS .....all the better to "stick it to us"

smilawgs

I can't believe enough people actually believed any of the things they said and voted them in even if it is a minority Government this sucks.

A little OT........but what about that crazy Health care surcharge I've heard about?? Socialized medicine.....HA! Even though we pay it upfront, I don't think we pay as much....for far better service.

We are moving back at the end of the year......and I'm afraid, very afraid!

Where are all the lottery revenues going????

OK, my vent is over!

PS. Scratch......you're too funny

I don't think Disney is the only company with a US only attitude. It bugs me to know that we watch a lot of US television and they always say HI america...like Americans are the only ones watching.

A little off topic - but I don't like online stores that won't sell to Candians - now a small place I can imagine as the shipping/hassle could be a pain - BUT - when I was pregnant with DS the Gap and Old Navy had maternity clothes available online, however you had to be in the USA to purchase - to me these are int'l companies and the least they could have done was ship the clothes to a store where I live - I mean Old Navy and the Gap are everywhere in Canada.....well more business for ebay I suppose!

Scratch..............NO NOT LOTTERY WINNINGS :earseek:
(I plan to win the 649 when we return!)

Where does all the money go????

I'm not sure where I'm going to shop when we return.....I'm always at Target, Kohls and online with Lands End, Pottery Barn.
Maybe Target will buy HBC (didn't I hear that??)

Back to the OP - It all comes down to population. The US market is huge, so they go after where the most customers are. Remember it's still a very insular society here. It really doesn't occur to them that we'd be interested, and when we are they really don't want to bother. :sad2:

Oh well - the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, eh? (.....my little Canadianizm!)

Y'all have a good weekend! :sunny:

There is also Super 7! It's at 21 Million! And it's All Mine! HAHAHAHHA!

I think that Target has been slowly taking over Zellers and the Bay! I keep noticing things that remind me of a Target Store! It would be nice!

Hey Yzma - you might still be able to shop at "Target" when you return.....the ongoing rumours persist about Zellers/Bay being bought out by Target! I'd be more than happy to have someone over take Zellers to get them into a decent store to compete with Walmart, but don't want anyone to take the Bay over! I'm heading back into states next week so I'll get my dose of Kohls & Target shopping;) Are the good sales on right now!!??

Hey Joanne!

Kohls is having a great sale right now, but I believe it ends Sunday. They are opening a few new stores somewhere so they have a store-wide grand opening sale! However, it seems like everything is on sale all the time. Most places are clearing out summer stuff to get ready for fall so there are good deals. I've also heard good things about sales at Dillards - they are a JC Penny like department store, but I believe a couple of notches better.

Target would be good in Canada - and they wouldn't have to change their name for the Quebec market.
They are already known as "Le Tar-juay" so no problem! :D
