My fiance just called me with bad news. We're supposed to honeymoon in Disney in May. 6 nights at the Poly then a 4 night cruise on the Wonder (which DF doesn't know about).
Well, he called me from work, saying he was only going to be able to take one week off for our honeymoon (I told him we'd need two). A bunch of guys with seniority want to have a week off in May, so they could get the extra day of Labor Day off. He's going to tell them about our plans and if they still take off, I think they're very selfish people. DF told work about 6 months ago, they okayed it, and now all these people want to take off. :sad2:
I had this planned for so long and now it's ruined. I'm seriously about to cry right now :sad1:

I'm sorry this happened. If he can't get the time off, enjoy your stay at the Poly. I know it's hard but in marriage as in life, you will face much tougher challenges. Try not to get too upset because imagine how bad your fiancee' feels knowing that you're so disappointed.

I'm going to be upset because I've been planning this and keeping this a secret for a very long time. It was the only thing keeping me sane in this whole wedding process. So it just comes naturally to feel bad when it all gets completely ruined. :sad2:

Hello,

Its very common that some people do not honeymoon right after the wedding. Could you possibly delay your honeymoon in Disney by a week or so? This way you can still have your planned 10 day trip

I agree with you that it completely stinks. He got the OK, now it's an issue. Has he explained that A)this is his honeymoon, and B) money was spent based on the OK he previously received? See, I'm the kind of person who would make sure my DH boss knows that he needs those days, and that I wasn't happy! But Imy DH works for a small family owned business (sadly not our family) so we've been lucky. Oh, I'm so mad for you right now. :furious:

Awww..I'm sorry this happened! We're getting married in September 07 and I know I'd be crushed if I planned everything out, he got an okay, and now they're trying to take it back. He should really go to his boss and explain the situation and how it's not a normal situation, it's your honeymoon! Best of luck with everything! :)

Honey I totally understand how you feel ...... my DH has to deal with the "senoirity" way of doing things and it really bites!!!

I agree with the other posts.....try and have a good time anyhow or even postpone it a bit......just go away for a weekend and then do disney later at Christmas time or so.....hope it works for you!!

I'm going to keep my fingers crossed and hope that somone who wants that time off changes their mind once they understand your situation. Or, that management steps up and stands behind the approval they gave him back when.........

Thanks everybody. It's good to know you see things the way I see them. I don't think I want to postpone the honeymoon and go in June. That would be hot, crowded, and miserable. It's a huge mess that was once something so simple. UPS doesn't have a busy season in May, why can't they just let someone else drive his route??

I do hope that it works out. I would be sad and disapointed if I had been working on a special surprise like that and something happened to mess it up. Wishing you the best.

That stinks! Your honeymoon is one time event!

I can understand the need for some kind of policy that rewards seniority, but it sounds like anybody can have their vacation plans trumped by a more senior employee at any time. How can anybody but the most senior employee plan an actual vacation with confidence??? Jeepers!

:grouphug: I haven't seen this suggested yet, but is there anyway for you to speak with his boss and explain about the second half of your honeymoon? It might just do the trick. Also, have you booked the cruise yet?

I emailed my DH's boss to see if he could take off a certain day 'cause I wanted to surprise him with a romantic weekend at the Poconos. DH's boss had no problem with it. Only problem I found was my DH. He is a Network/Systems Administrator (manages all the servers) so he knew I was emailing his boss. DH was curious since I never email his boss, but thankfully he knew better and didn't open them up. He was very glad he didn't :teeth:

I feel your pain. I worked for years at a company where seniority ruled when it came to vacations. I totally remember that the weeks around Tgiving and Christmas, as well as 4 day weeks always booked first. People could actually stretch 4 weeks of vacation into five with those extra days they keep for national holidays.

Take a breath and say a prayer that there is at least one decent person that will give up that week for you two. If not, do you think your fiancee would be willing to walk in and say that you had booked a non refundable vacation based on his prior approval to take those 2 weeks? I know that's not completely true, but alot of places do have non refundable policies...Oh! and most airlines have non refundable policies on tickets, don't they?

Let us know what happens....

Thanks again everybody. Yes, the cruise is booked. And so is the MK view room at the Poly. *sigh* And the thing is, my DF always gets the short end of the stick. He's always the one they send back out at night if all the packages aren't delivered. So he has to pick up everybody's slack and they can't even cut him a break. And he really needs to let it be known that he isn't happy about this and put his foot down.
I'll keep everyone informed. I only got to talk to him on his lunch break about it, so HOPEFULLY he's talked to some people. I doubt it though. He doesn't seem that upset about it. I guess because he isn't the one planning and spending over $6,000 for it either. :sad2:

What a bummer!
I like the suggestion of you speaking to the boss yourself, maybe you can catch him in a soft moment, and if you tell him it's a surprise, expensive one at that, he might give your soon to be DH the time off.
Try to relax, things have a way of working out. :grouphug:

We have a few blackout dates for vacations but if someone has already purchased airline tickets, etc we generally make exceptions...any chance UPS is the same??

Ok he talked to a few people tonight, and they said they would try and work it out. So it's still on..for now! Keep your fingers crossed! Thanks so much for your input everybody

TrueEeyore,

Sending lots of Pixie Dust your way and praying that everything will work out!

Is there anyone in Seniority that you can tell secretly of your plans for the Honeymoon and the Cruise being a SURPRISE for him that has been all booked?

Maybe if someone at work KNEW how this is just so important then maybe the Seniors would not mind backing off and taking their vacation a little later... :confused3
