Last night my husband and I had dinner at Applebees. We were seated by the hostess, then our waiter appeared at our table and, with a lot of enthusiasm, announced, "Hi, I'm Carl! I'm living the dream! What can I get you to drink!"

I looked at the waiter and kind of chuckled. Honestly, I didn't know what to say. I was waiting for my husband to make some kind of joke (he's actually really good at putting his foot in his mouth:laughing:) but he passed. When Carl left to get our drinks, my husband and I pondered what he meant by "living the dream!"

We wondered if it was something that Applebees requires their waiters/waitresses to say (although it was the first time we'd ever heard anyone say it). I thought maybe it had something to do with the Arizona Cardinals shirt he was wearing, but since the team isn't winning many games this season, I figured that couldn't be the reason.:rotfl: My husband said maybe he was being sarcastic. If you've ever seen the movie, "Waiting", you'll understand!:lmao:

What would be your take on this? Just seemed like an odd thing to say.

I thought you were going to say he was some kind of crazy Amway salesman & was trying to recruit you.

I'd say he was being sarcastic...

Since you mentioned it, it sounds like something the guy who "needs" the $100 tip "more" in Waiting... would say. :rotfl:

I take it as he's insecure, perhaps, and so he makes fun of it to make himself feel better.

Oh, they are so annoying! I have an old friend from high school who, occasionally, asks me if I am "happy with my life" and if I am "still enjoying my current employment" and "if it pays enough". :sad2:

I think it is just a saying kids that age say. I've heard my 22 yo nephew say it more than once.

:lmao:

He was definitely being sarcastic.

BTW, I love Waiting. Anyone who has ever worked/waited on tables at a restaurant, would find that movie hysterical.
