I'm in tears...

They are contagious until they are all crusted over. Just due to Make A Wish Kids being there I wouldn't go if they would still be contagious. Also people who are immunocompromised like someone going thru chemo. Chicken Pox are very dangerous for some people. I hope they crust over fast so you can still go as planned! Saturday is still 3 days away, good luck!

Believe it or not, some parents actually appreciate their kids being exposed to chicken pox, and would rather have them catch it while they're young than later on in life when the repercussions and side-effects can be more severe... :sad2:

Awww hope the little ones feel better soon.

I was hoping Disney would be better understanding but really $50 is not too shabby in keeping other kiddos from picking up this not so wanted souvenir knowingly.

Try oatmeal baths, I hear they dry them up quicker!!!

Good luck hon.

As a mom of 5 who all have had chicken pox(three at one time), oatmeal baths work in helping to dry them sooner. I was always informed that they were contagious while they had the fever which could occur up to two weeks before. I would go if they are feeling alright especially if it is a mild case. Good luck!

It is also dangerous to expose pregnant women who are not immune as the illness can harm a fetus.

While this used to be the case, now that there is a chicken pox vaccination, most parents aren't too worried about their kids getting chicken pox. I know when I was a kid, my mom was relieved when we got chicken pox - done & over with!

To the OP, if your doctor gives you the okay, and your kids feel up to it I say go for it! Fortunately it looks like all of your children are still young enough to use a stroller, so maybe just let them take it easy and not wear themselves out by walking too much. Thank goodness for the vaccine - chicken pox is usually so much more mild now compared with years ago!

Please do make sure that they are no longer contagious before you go. I caught chicken pox as an adult and I was SO miserable! Even worse for those mentioned previously.

Can you delay until the end of March? That might be the best of all worlds.

This was way before the chicken pox vaccine, but I still remember my first trip to Disney World when I was 6 - because I had chicken pox!!! I honestly don't know whether I was past the contagious stage or not, but I do remember how itchy I felt. But I do have memories of having fun, and what better distraction from the itches than WDW? If they are past the point of being contagious I'd still go. Good luck!

no, no, no. cp are only contagious for 5 days after the rash (and 2 days before). yes, in some VERY rare cases the contagious period could be up to 10 days. Go! you will probably get some stares and perhaps a few mumbles - but you are fine - even around immunocompromised people.

We had neighbors who flew and took their child w/chicken pox about 20 years ago before the vaccine was prevalent. I was astonished, but their doctor okayed it.
I, too would worry about the baby getting it. Mine broke out in about 2 week intervals.

Oh no! I hope the kids feel better soon, and that Disney is able to work some magic for you!

And some parents don't appreciate it. My DD got the worst case of chicken pox at WDW last year (and she had been vaccinated).

Kind of OT, but you can make your own oatmeal bath by sticking quick oats in the blender until it's a powder, then stick it in the bath water.

I don't know where you're getting your information from but I just checked several sources online and they all said Varicella is contagious until blisters are crusted over. Here are a few:

Saturday might be only 4 days...

I have one request. Please, if you see people wearing shirts that say "Bert's Big Adventure" on them, please steer clear of them. The charity is taking this year's group of chronically and terminally ill kids to WDW over this weekend. I would hate for any of these kids to catch Chickenpox!

A little O/T.... were you flying or driving?

If you're flying, will they allow you to change your reservations without additional charges? They may be less forgiving than Disney.

More importantly, i'd take the advice of your doctor. He'll know if the kids are still contagious and what the proper health standards are and what risks are involved for both you and your family and the public.

Hope all works out for your situation. I know it's not an easy one. :surfweb:

Last year while at the world there was a little girl ahead of us on line to see Stitch and she surely had chicken pox.
OP- if you don't mind me asking, were your kids vaccinated? I mean I have heard stories if kiddos getting CP even after having the vaccine.

We will not go unless our ped assures us that they are no longer contagious mainly because of the Make a Wish kids, pregnant women, etc. We don't want a harmless virus for us to end up killing someone else.

If they are no longer contagious, I think we are going as planned. They truly have mild cases. Both kids have less than 10 pox each and they all appear to be healing. Neither kid has really been acting sick and had I not noticed the pox during bath time, we would still have no idea they had them.

But it's really going to come down to the contagious factor and wether or not they get worse.

They were and DD had a booster before starting kindergarten this summer.

Hunclemarco ~ We are driving so that will not be an issue.

mickeysaver ~ Groups like that are a huge concern for us so that is why we are going to doctor before we decide one way or the other. If she says they are contagious then I will surely cry again when I call Disney to reschedule. But my tears are a small price to pay considering what chicken pox could mean to one of those kids.
