I'm in tears...

Actually I just got advice today on how to deal with a preteen instead of beating her  (and no, I wouldn't actually beat her, it was a joke!)

As a father of three, I can say in all confidence that ANY parent of a teen / preteen KNOWS you wouldn't really beat your preteen: You can't bring out the big guns too early or they'll get used to them. You've got to save the beatings for when they are teenagers :lmao::lmao::rotfl2::rotfl2:

holy crap! that's EXACTLY what I was about to say. I have a 14 year old and I told him that beatings are now an official option. hehe

Our pediatrician is the director of our county health department and I am also a Medical Assistant. I just said I would trust him over any other becuase of every thing we have been through with our children and our special needs child. He has been amazing. I do not take websites for granted because they are not all reliable sites. I would not tell a patient to get on the web and go by what they found.

I agree, I would not typically tell a parent to get on the web and go by what they found. But I would go by what the CDC website says.

I'm glad you have an amazing pediatrician. My kids see my docs that I work with and I would also take their advice over what most people would say. LOL! I have two teens and a pre teen..I Understand completely! I like the advise too. LOL! seriously though I wouldn't beat them but they are going to make me lose my mind! lol

This morning she reaaaaally pushed my buttons. I blew up, yelled and then left for work without listening to her response. Not my best moment, but ugh, is it really THAT hard to listen to me when I tell you to turn the tv off and eat breakfast?? I don't even know why it was on to start with, its not supposed to be!

Sorry for the blow up! :flower3:

I tell my cousins that once the reach 13 years old they start getting "the finger"! - the long, middle one! LOL!!!

They actually look forward to and remind me of it on their 13th birthday!

Well, we woke up this morning to find them crusted over. The ped confirmed that it was the tail end of CP and that they were no loner contagious!! :yay::yay: She told us to go at their speed, keep them hydrated and to have fun!!:yay::yay:

We have decided to leave the baby at home with Grandma. We just don't want to risk her breaking out mid trip. Grandma plans to spoil her rotten so she'll have a great week too. And this will give us an excuse to plan that Christmas in Disney trip that I've been dreaming of for years! :yay::yay:

Thanks everyone for your support! It was a very upsetting evening but you all made me feel better about the situation and the decision at hand. Thank you all again!

Congrats to you! So glad you get to make your trip, and I agree with the decision to leave baby behind. A sick 1 year old in WDW does not sound like fun. Nor does a contagious child on a trip where there are lots of people, some with serious isssues. Glad the kids are feeling up to the trip!

:grouphug: So glad it worked out that you can go! Have a wonderful time with your family!

I just caught up with this thread. I am glad to see you are being responsible about this, even leaving the infant that MAY come down with it home.

It's not just sick kids and pregnant women. My DW caught Chicken Pox at WDW in 2000...and she was off work for two weeks and utterly miserable for 1 week of that. I would hope that however she got it, that person didn't knowingly go/bring their kids with Chicken Pox.

OP, I am glad your older children are no longer contagious, and I applaud you for thinking of others and leaving your 1yo at home with Grandma. To be honest, though, she is going to be thoroughly spoiled rotten and you won't be able to do a thing with her.

LOL, have fun!

Thank you for being so responsible. I know that this has not been easy for you. I am sorry if I added to your stress. I hope you have a magical trip!

FYI - I am a medical assistant in a pediatric office and the Bert's Big Adventure charity here in Atlanta is one of my favorites. Those kids just melt my heart and I would hate to see any of them come away from there once in a lifetime trip with anything other than a truly magical experience.

That's great to hear you can still take your trip as planned!

  YAY!! Also kudos to you for leaving baby at home...that was actually something I was worried about, because chances are, living in the same household, she's going to get them too! I'll never forget when my son's were younger, my husband JUST LEFT to go to an Army exercise when my son broke out. I had to take off work, and just when he wasn't contagious, my OTHER son broke out!! Hubby came home the day after he wasn't contagious any more. :sad2:

Personally, I question the whole vacination policy for CP...I think that's one of those shots you should have a choice to give your kids or not, because they don't guarantee it will even work...I'm afraid we are going to "suppress" it into something worse, instead of just letting it run it's course....but that's just me!! (no medical training!)

I'm so happy that your kiddos are feeling better and that the trip is still one! Have a wonderful time! :cool1: I'll keep my fingers crossed that the baby does not contract chicken pox!

My DW caught Chicken Pox at WDW in 2000...and she was off work for two weeks and utterly miserable for 1 week of that.

How does she know where she got it? Isn't the incubation period a couple of weeks? I remember my SIL getting it a couple of days after she visited us from out of state, and for years accused us of infecting her. Then we learned that she had to have been exposed a week or two before her visit. (That, plus the fact that we both had chicken pox as kids kind of ruled us out, right?)

Please do make sure that they are no longer contagious before you go. I caught chicken pox as an adult and I was SO miserable! Even worse for those mentioned previously.

Can you delay until the end of March? That might be the best of all worlds.
I got them when I was 14 from my younger siblings and I remember feeling very ill-I had the worst case out of the 3 of us. I also agree that the OP should make sure the kids aren't contagious before taking them..in most people(kids) chicken pox is mild, but like any disease, complications can and do happen.
