Felicia, take a big breath and try to relax. Thyroid problems run in my family. Myself, my younger sister, my dad and my uncle have all had various thyroid problems. About 12 years ago, I was diagnosed with two very large tumors on both sides of my thyroid. I had many tests and my endocronologist and I decided to go the chemo route as I was young and still wanted to have children. I had one large dose of radioactive iodine. I had some not fun side effects but the medicine worked, both tumors were destroyed and my thyroid began functioning normally. Two years ago, my sister was diagnosed. She and her doc decided to go the surgical route for various reasons. She had the surgery and was fine. In fact she flew out here less than 2 weeks later and the scar was already so small, you could hardly see it. She has more trouble regulating her thyroid levels so her doc out her on Wellbutrin which is generally a drug used for depression. He said it also seems to have the effect of stabalizing the endocrine system and indeed, she is feeling much better and is now able to sleep. My dad took the surgical route also while my uncle did the chemo. This long missive is not to give you a family medical history
but rather to show you that many different people have thyroid trouble that is easily treatable. Even if, God forbid, it is cancer, thyroid cancer is one of the easiest and most curable forms. All of us were told that cancer was a possibility and NONE of us had it. I have a 2yo DD and I know I would be a basket case too, but in this instance, know that you have every right to be very optimistic. Good luck tomorrow and let us know how you feel.
