I just received the following email. Usually I don't even open these but I need a laugh today. :rotfl2:

I think I will call the Barrister and see how to claim my millions.

"I am Barr. Usman Bello, a solicitor at law. I am the personal attorney to
late Mr.Chapman the African Area Director of SIL International, who
unfortunately died in the crash of Kenya Airways Flight 431 in Abidjan,
Ivory Coast, January 30 2000.

You will read more stories about the crash on visiting this
website,news.airwise.com/airlines/archive/2000/kenya2000.html and also in
this
website, where Chapman's company talked about his death in the Kenya
crash. You shall as well find the pictures of Chapman and his wife there.
Mr. Chapman Hailed from United States Of America.

Since the death of Chapman, I as his personal attorney, have made
several enquiries to locate his only surviving relation, without any
success. I came across your name and contact on the course of my personal
searching for Chapman's relations, so I decided to contact you for this
project to know if you are the Next Of Kin to Late Chapman and his family.

I am contacting you to assist in repatriating and securing the wealth
left behind in a fixed deposit account by Chapman, before they get
confiscated or declared unserviceable by Eco Bank Plc where my client
operates an account worth $USD7.5Million Dollars. The board of Eco Bank Plc
has issued me a notice that after 2 months from now and no next of kin
shown up for the claiming of the said funds, the funds will be
confiscated and declared unserviceable.

Since I and my team have been unsuccessful in locating Chapman's
relatives for sometime now,it on this note that I seek your consent to
present you as the Next of Kin of the deceased since you are a foreigner,so
that the proceed of this deposit valued at $USD7.5 Million Dollars can
be released to you for our disbursments.

Upon the receipt of the following,i will make sure i submit them to the
Central Computing Unit of the Bank as the Next Of Kin to my late
client:

1.Your Full Name as stated in your international passport.

2. Your residence address, age and occupation.

3. Your Cell Phone and Fax Numbers for easier communication.

I have worked out the modalities for the prosecution of this
transaction which has met all necessary requirements in our country and
those of
international arbitration.

All i require is your honest co-operation to enable us see this
business successfully. I guarantee that this will be executed under a
legitimate arrangement which will protect you from any breach of the law.
Chapman was a very good man and it is not wise for me to allow his hard
earned wealth to be stolen by the greedy directors of Eco Bank Plc. Further
details awaits your response by email.

PLEASE, TREAT THIS PROPOSAL AS TOP SECRET.

Regards,

Barr.Usman Bello. (Esq).

I used to get these at work all the time- I'd just forward them over to my boss to let him know I'd be claiming the millions and to not expect me in the next day. :)

Wonder what would happen if you really responded to it?

OMG wasn't this scam on Dateline or something? These are really dangerous, evil people you are dealing with. I am almost thinking you should turn that into the FBI or something.

I think it was Dateline -- they did a kind of sting operation and caught some of the people -- it was really awful!

I get one of these a day. Some of them are pretty nasty sorts and will try to get you to come to the country. Most just want you to give them money to "Secure your good faith". None of them are real and none of them worth bothering the FBI about because they all origanate outside of the US and the FBI does not have jurisdiction. You can learn more about them on snopes.com. Just type Nigerian Scam into the search feature. They are all based on that.

Apparently from the news report they have been scamming people in the US and our government is after them -- if you can believe everything you see on tv.

I know it seems obvious that it's a scam -- but there are those people who can be fooled!

Honestly though, are there really people out there who would fall for this?

People would really believe a total STRANGER whould be contacting them about another TOTAL stranger's death, and giving them money?

So, poor Mr. Chapman had no family, but he oviously had a business and maybe there was a charity near and dear to his poor, unbeating heart. Why wouldn't his money go to one of those?

I can see how people could fall for the Ebay scam, where a buyer will contact you, offer you MORE than what you are selling, PLUS extra for your time and convenience. I can also see people falling for the phone scam I got, where I won a $5000 Government grant (even though I never applied for one).

How anyone could ever fall for this scam, is beyond me. And I USED to be the most gullible person alive. I don't think even in my most gullible days, I would of fallen for this one. :confused3

Yeah I know hard to believe, but apparently people have been scammed out of big money. You gotta figure, why would they keep doing it if it weren't working (not for the fun of it.)

You know how you always hear about senior citizens getting scammed by obvious stuff all the time -- not my mom, though. She thinks
everybody is trying to scam her!!! :)

On one of our local talk radio stations, they answer theses e-mails all the time, and call Nigeria to speak with the Barrister.

It is absolutely hysterical.

You know, it is really sad that some people would fall for something like this. I know that a lot of people that are not "worldly" (for lack of a better word) may at least respond with some of the info requested for starters before they realized that this was a scam. Whenever we get the so-called invitations for free trips/weekends etc, my dh always believes that they are free. I have to explain that we need to sit through a presentation or front some money for "processing fees" etc.

BTW, I have a bunch of rooms booked at the GF and Poly....take your pick. :rotfl2:

On another note, I parked behind a van yesterday with the license plate Diznee and could not help but think...."I wonder if it is a dis-er". :goodvibes
