I'm getting a new scrappy toy!!!

OK, It's not technically mine, I have to share it with DH, but....

We're getting a new camera!!! A Sony Alpha 100? I think that's what it is. I wanted a Rebel, but DH bought a Minolta something or the other SLR when DS was born, and he has a few lenses, flashes, and other toys that go along with it, and I guess they'll work with the Alpha.

Now, if I can just learn to use the darn thing before our WDW trip in November, I'll be doing great!!!

love that camera, I have one. of course, I didn't read the page that points out what everything is... have had the camera for almost a year and just realised it has a little flash... the manual just kept telling me what kind of flash I needed to get... it was pretty funny. It's a great camera though. maggie

The Sony alpha 200 is coming out in Feb. I too am going to get it because I have a minolta with lenses and a flash. I was going to get the 100 and hope it will be discounted more when the 200 comes out but the more I read about the 200 the more I wanted that one, LOL. Its almost the same as the 100 but with the 200 it only comes with a lense and the 100 you can get body only. The changes are mostly convience, like an auto pop up flash the 100 doesn't have that so you have to remember to pop it up if you aren't using a flash kit.

Either way the both sound like great cameras with the bonus of being able to use the minolta lenses!

Just went to the Sony site and for the first time I see there is a 300 and 350 also! WOW, and dang, more research to do! LOL Just thought I'd let you know incase you haven't bought yet and want to see the different models.
BTW, are you so excited? I know I am! Can't wait to get it! LOL

DH has been wanting this one for awhile, he can use the lenses and the flash he already has. We got a lens with our, not a huge one, but a lens no less.

He got a book from the library today, he's reading it at work tonight about it. It's already shipped, so it should be here in a couple of days!!!!!

Please come back and post about it. I'd love to hear from someone who actually has the camera. Post some pis too. I'd also love to hear how the older lenses work with the new camera and how the pics look. I'm still thinking about the 100, especially if my local camera store puts it on sale as the 200 comes out. Then I could buy another lense. I'm so wishy washy right now, LOL.

I'm not sure what a good price is, we got the camera body with the lens for around $650 at Sears.

There is a thread over on the Photography board with pics from the 100, I don't know if you've seen it or not.

I'll share pics, but they might be ones that DH takes.....I'm going to have a lot to learn!!!!!

I think thats a good price. I know my local Ritz Camera has the body only for $599 and I think with the the lense its $699. Hope your camera comes soon. I'm sure you are so excited! I know I am and I'm just looking, LOL

From all the reviews I've read it seems real easy to learn. Can't wait to get a real person's review, if you know what I mean. I'm a total novice and while everyone on the photography board has been great sometimes I have no idea what they are talking about! LOL

It's here!!!! It came yesterday, I was a litle surprised to see it already!!

I do know it's easy to use in the auto mode (LOLOL), and DH has been messing around with it, changing the settings, etc. I can't find it, so I'm assuming he took it to work with him to play around with it.

Happypooh, I can't compare it to the Rebel, but I'll let you know what we think of it.
