I'm done with CVS!

I don't have a CVS card (although there are CVS's on every corner here) and I just say No, thank you, if they ask if I want one. I won't give stores my telephone number either (some places ask like TRU) I just say no thank you when they ask.

Truthfully, I prefer to run into Walmart anyways over other stores because they don't have any of that nonsense ;)

Really? Where did I say they can't look at me? I said stare. There's quite a difference between normal eye contact while conducting a transaction and staring, at least I think there is.

You're making it sound like I withhold payment just to prolong the transaction, which is not the case at all. Just like it takes time to ring up the items, it takes time to pull out my payment. That's all normal activity in the buy/sell transactions I have experienced since...forever.

It kind of came off that you didn't want them to look at you. You are the customer, they are focussed on you at that moment in time, so there really isn't any reason why they should't be looking at you.

I'm glad for stores that have cards and limits on deals. Makes it possible for lots of people to get the deal instead of just a few stockpile hoarders:banana:

That's why I miss CVS so much, I moved to a place with only Walgreens. I almost never get the sale items and you can't get a raincheck on RR items so I just stopped going to Walgreens because people here will go through the line 800 times to get more than one of the sale item.

At least at cvs, I could get 1 or a raincheck and get the bucks later. It's really not that hard to have your card out and ready if you know that's how the store does things. Honestly I would never shop at CVS without the sales or the card, it's way too expensive otherwise.

I have frequented CVS stores in at least 10 states and they have never had to wait for me to pull out my card before ringing up. That just sounds silly. Tell them to start ringing up while you fish around for your card.

And if they tell you they can't, they are full of it. Plain and simple.

I am not sure how "I don't like being stared at " comes off as "don't look at me" but I guess I will try to me more explicit when I post.

Good suggestion.

Never in a million years would I have thought that cvs cards might be a hot button issue.

I know the phone number of the Rite Aid. If anyone, Lowe's, CVS, Radio Shack asks for my number, they get the number to Rite Aid.

I used to work at CVS like 6 years ago. The reason they dont start ringing you out before you scan the card is because then the stuff doesnt ring up on sale it just takes it off at the end and some people will not understand this and they have to spend more time explaining that they got the sale price.

At my store alot of the time there would only be one person and a manger working, not counting the pharmacy and those people wouldnt come up to help. So there would not be people to call up to help and that why only one register would be open

At one point when they first started with the card, cvs wouldnt let us just scan a random card if you didnt have one. No card no sale price.

No kidding.... it doesn't matter when they scan the dang card. Same at grocery stores. It will go back and give the discounts.

Of course, then the boogie man will know what you bought, and tell the martians so they know how to seduce you after the abduction.

And they'll stare at you, don't forget that!

OP, what you seem to consider "staring" sounds like most people's definition of "looking at" or "paying attention to." It really seems like you are looking for more things to be annoyed at with that particular complaint.

As for not wanting to use your card, all I've ever had to say was "I don't have it with me." They always ring me up quickly without going through their spiel to get me to sign up. And, obviously, you can use that line whether you really have it with you or not.

I never give my phone number, either. I have a dummy number I use if they insist, although I frequently say we don't have a phone. Honestly, I don't have a cell phone, so it's only a little lie! I also have a dummy email account that I use exclusively for these kinds of things; who needs endless advertising clogging up their everyday email account that they use for work or personal communications?

Hope this helps a little....
As others have mentioned the reason they wait to start ringing is because the sale items will not show until the end and there are always the people who argue not enough was taken off and then the line is held up while every item is reviewed to make sure it is on sale and will take longer than waiting 10 seconds for the customer to dig out the card.

As many of you can attest CVS needs more registers open! Hours have been cut accross the board, so chances are you are being checked out by a cashier that is stressed by the line forming, just as you are stressed by standing there. Many times there is only one other person to call and they are stocking, cleaning, doing the paperwork, looking for items etc. Some of them may have even had their own hours cut...so they are faced with long lines and are only working 30 hours instead of 40, so a significant pay cut. In that environment mistakes are bound to be made! Call corporate and say..."I think you need more help at store xyz"

It is policy to ask for the card and performance reviews are based on that question. Could mean a lower yearly pay increase.

If you want to use a card and don't want to be asked or use your phone number try...(your area code) 867-5309.
