I'm Cold

I'm always cold. We haven't turned our heat on yet and right now it is 65 degrees in here. It was much colder when I woke up this morning.

One thing I haven't seen listed here is hot drinks. I am a Diet Coke addict, but in the winter, I drink hot tea once a day. It does help me to feel warmer (than ice cold Diet Coke :thumbsup2 ).

I also bought a fleece hat from Old Navy this year (it was like $3.50 with a coupon), and I wear it to bed at night. It definitely helps me to feel warmer as I try to go to sleep at night. You could wear a hat in the house, too.

I'm cold blooded - so I feel cold when everyone else is comfortable.

Our cutting the heat last year made a significant change- we saved over $3000! So that's why I suck it up and add a sweater. I almost wish I didn't know that I saved that much because that's what's keeping me keeping it low.

:scared1:

Time to insulate. Our home is well insulated and we spend half of that and stay nice and warm.

We are on Propane and it's a good size house(4000 sq) It's expensive to heat. But I agree that I need to insulate better.

We keep our house at 72 in the winter. Gotta love that Citizens Gas! Bill is never over $100.

We added about 22 bags of the blow in insulation. We didn't have much up there, that was for a 1300 sq ft ranch. It wasn't that hard, just took an afternoon.

I will join your vent though our house is warmer than 64. I just can't go that low but I'm still freezing at 68. I'm wearing a fleece & unfortunately, am usually cold most of the time - I blame my thyroid. Though our bills aren't bad - gas/water is $99 & electric is $73 on budget bill & has been about that for 2 yrs. 2000 sq ft above ground.

How much insulation did you have to add? I wondered about that when I saw it in an ad this week. Our upstairs is freezing, even more so than the main level. I have flannel sheets on all the beds but it'd be nice to have it a little warmer.

Ugh, I'm not at all ready to hibernate for the winter yet!

I'm from Michigan also. Did you do the insulation yourself or hire it out? How much did it cost and was it easy if you did do it yourself? I think we need to add more insulation also.:thumbsup2

We had our heater serviced last week and got bad news- it has a crack and has to be replaced. Not sure how much that will cost . Good thing we live in the south and should not need it for a while.

We did it ourselves. We got the insulation at Lowes, it was on sale and I had a 10% off coupon. They give the machine for free for one day to blow it in. Dh also put somekind of vents or something up there, too, so total cost was $400-500? There is also a tax credit for it, so we might get another $50 or so back, I think is what I guess. It wasn't that hard. Dh was up in the attic. Thankfully the hose was REALLY long so it went all the way through the house and attic and I had the machine on the porch. I just cut the bags in half and stuffed them in the machine. Just make sure you push it in straight and don't let it slip sideways because it expands a lot!! I got it jammed in sideways- ONCE. Wear a mask and goggles, I think I still have some of that pink suff in my sinuses! Took about 5 or 6 hours. There are rulers at Lowes or Home Depot that can tell you how much you need depending on the sq ft of your house and how much you want.

Best thing I ever bought was a honeywell oil filled radiator a few years ago. It was about $30 and target was giving a giftcard too. It really heats up a space without costing too much. It's not very cheap but cheaper than gas. I think I figured out it's .12 a minute.

It's a lot safer than some space heaters. It does still get hot to the touch so I wouldn't use it with a toddler around. It helps when it's chilly in the morning but warm in the afternoon so I don't have to put the furnace on.

SAVED over $3000?? :scared1::scared1:

We don't even pay half that for the entire year for our heat/ac!!
