I'm clueless - tell me about Ipods

do some research online for comparisons between various mp3 players, so you can get the good/bad/etc for each and see which one fits your wants/needs best.....

had an ipod myself, but it died after about a year..... went back to the apple store and got a small discount off a new one for trading in the dead one.... the second one died after about the same amount of time (never dropped/abused either one, just normal, everyday use)..... so I'll never buy another ipod again.... transferred my music library to another program, removed the DRMs from the songs purchased from itunes and will eventually get a new mp3 player not named ipod....

granted I probably just had the misfortune of getting two bum products from a line that has millions of good ones; but as the old saying goes, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.... apple won't be getting any more of my $$$.

Sansa makes some great MP3 Players. I actually bought them for my whole family. My mother is not technically inclined and Itunes confused her. With the Sansa it was as easy as connecting it to the computer, clicking the box that popped up, and then dragging the music to it. Never had a problem with them.

I would hate to have a montly subscription. More bills and who needs that?
If you buy music every month, then you're going to be paying every month anyway, and with the subscription, you're never sorry that you bought something months later. We've saved loads of money with the subscription, and gotten loads of extra value.

Really? How do they do that? I'm not aware of any encryption key generators for DRM that works across workstations. You need an internal cross-certifier (or something akin to that) for that to work.

EDITED: I just checked... Phil is mostly correct. You can hook your iPod up to any number of computers you'd like, but when you do so it will erase the iPod and sync it to the library of the current computer. So effectively, you cannot pull secured content from multiple libraries together onto the same iPod.

That's only if you sync. If you drag and drop, you don't erase or override anything.

You can drag and drop the songs, but you won't be able to put those songs into your library on your computer.

:thumbsup2

I have a Zune w/the Zune Pass, as well. If I was paying per song for all the music I've downloaded onto my Zune, I'd have spent literally thousands of dollars by now. Instead I just pay $15 a month, which is a lot more reasonable to me!

... except for all those bills for $1 each for each track you purchase. :rolleyes1
