In other words, please help me justify what I'm about to do. Last week I started a thread asking which week is better between September 24 through October 2 2006 and October 1 through October 9 2006. Right now we're scheduled for the latter but I'm seriously considering changing to the week of 9/24 because I think the crowds will be lighter that week. Please give me your feedback so when I tell my DH that I'm making another change to the reservation I can say my Dis buddies thought it was a good idea. :rotfl:

One week won't make much difference: Yes it'll be a little less crowded in September and a little less expensive, but it'll be a little hotter too.

This past September we did the same thing. I originally was booked for the first week of October, but changed to the last of September because I thought the first of October would be more crowded. From what I remember reading when we returned, I think we were right. People were complaining that the crowds were higher than they expected the first of October. This year may have been unusual in that it was the last week of free dining and that combined with the start of food & wine and the beginning of MNSSHP, could have made it more crowded than usual. The weather will most likely be hot and humid either week.

The more often you change your ressies, the higher the chance of getting a screw up!
You're going, be happy! Get a room and keep it-you're going during the Food and Wine Festival and rooms are going to be very, very hard to come by! We're going the same time you are in October-worried about the heat-about melted last year. Oh well.

The earlier dates will be cheaper and less crowded. We found once into October it got very crowded and the weather was still very hot and humid. The one week doesnt make a difference in the weather, just in the crowds and the price.

I think it's a good idea to move it back to the September week if it's easy for you to do so. We were there this year from Sept. 30 - Oct. 5, and while it wasn't summertime crowded, there were certainly enough people there so that we had to plan our days and make careful use of fastpass. I read enough descriptions of how deserted the parks were in September to believe it's a better month than October.

I would change them to the Sept date. In NW Illinois my kids have off several days that October week leading into Columbus Day. I have been at WDW during that time frame in 2002 and 2003. 2003 was super crowded. This past year, they had off the 6th thru Columbus Day and I checked (crazy) to see if I could get a room at a Deluxe for a spontaneous, quickie trip and I couldn't even get a room!! I must have been nuts to even consider going at that time again, but I had a WDW craving ;) .

Good luck with your decision!

Keep your dates in October so you can go to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. It's worth it!

It will be hot either one of those weeks, and as the previous poster stated....Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is well worth going to, so if I were you I'd keep the ressie's you have.....both those weeks should have approximately the same amount of guests....it still won't be as crowded as the summer, thanksgiving, Christmas, spring break or any of the times that kids are out of school.

Have a magical vacation whatever you decide!

Either week you choice have a great vacation. :Pinkbounc

I agree, the Halloween Party is so much fun, but I went this past year on September 30th, so either reservation you go with, you will be able to go to the Party (it requires seperate tickets that do run out though).

If you went in October, part of your vacation would be during Columbus Day weekend. That will probably have an impact on the crowds.

There's also a jewish holiday at around the same time which we found between that and Columbus Day had a huge impact on the crowds.

Columbus Day weekend, Jewish Holiday AND the start of the F&WF. You guys are sooo helping my case! :goodvibes

Those are 2 weeks I was considering for next year. That first week in October won out because I really want to go to the F&WF. Also, one week less hot (it isn't really "cooler")

We were there Oct. 1 thru Oct. 8 this year. Parks were jammed. I was surprised, as the guidebook said it should be fairly light, but such was definately not the case. Next time we go in the fall, it will definately be in September.

We always go the 3rd week in Sept and it is not crowded at all! I'd go then if I were you. :cool1:

Maybe we'll see you there :wizard:

DH and I will be there from Sept. 24-Sept. 30! I was also debating between these two weeks, but due to stuff at work this week worked out better for us. I remember doing my CP down there in 2002 and it was dead in September. Can't wait! :cool1:

I am debating about going Sept 27-Oct 1 myself for a little solo adventure. I have reading up on MNSSHP and F&W Festival and I think they historically begin either the last Fri or Sat of September (at least they did last year). And Oct 4 is when the resorts change from Value to Regular pricing. At the Moderate that means increase from $134 to $155. Florida weather is always iffy at this time of the year, but I can always bring my poucho/umbrella and endure!

We went this year from 9/28 to 10/6....the first few days were heaven. With fewer crowds, the heat didn't matter that much. Actually, the heat wasn't too bad, just comfortable. It wasn't like July or August in the Florida heat. The last part of our trip was really crowded. The F/W fest was so crowded, you could hardly walk around. We did go to MNSSHP, it was ok. The park was not crowded at all when we first got there around 4, but when they closed and reopened for the party...it was CROWDED.
We actually left early. I would pick the week in Sept., the other events sound great; but if you want low crowds pick Sept.. Have a great trip!!! We will be there at that time also!!!
