I'm Boycotting WCC

I'm really disappointed to hear this. I just made ADRs yesterday for our December trip. We have made WCC our last night tradition. The food was great but the entertainment was much better! We might just have to switch over to 'Ohana for the last night feast!

What I am getting out of this thread (well, the four pages I've read!) is that the type of activity and level of involvement is quite variable based on when you go. Be prepared for anything from full engagement to minimal half hearted efforts at creating atmosphere.

If the food were decent, WCC could perhaps get away with that. However, I found in March that the food was average and pretty boring. When we went they had the pony races but the entire atmosphere was pretty muted - not what we were hoping. Of course, in addition to the CM's part of that might depend on the mood of the diners that night.

I can't imagine we would plan on retunring to WCC anytime soon.

I am so disappointed that Bobby is leaving.

A couple of years ago our family went to WDW in December. A few months before our trip my six-year-old DD's best friend moved to Tampa. I made arrangements for a surprise visit from her friend on one of the day's of our trip with dinner reservations at WCC that night. The girls had so much fun at the Magic Kingdom that day and were very tired as we made our way to the Wilderness Lodge.

We had to wait almost an hour for our table and everyone was so tired by the time we sat down. Plus, the girls were starting to become sad, realizing they would be saying good-bye after dinner.

Fortunately, we had Bobby the Kid that night. He was wonderful. Within minutes our girls were giggling hysterically and throwing straws back at Bobby. My daughter's friend is a very picky eater and kept asking questions about the brands of food they used. When she asked what brand the chocolate milk was, Bobby quickly went into the kitchen and came back with the carton of milk to show her.

After their food arrived, he had them stand on their chairs and scream for ketchup. They loved doing that. They also enjoyed watching their Dads' get up and sing "I'm a Little Teapot." There were pony races, napkin twirling and countless other antics going on. We all had a blast.

By the time we left, the girls were still sad to say goodbye, but their memories of the end of that day are of the laughter and fun they had.

Crud. I'm another WCC first timer with an ADR in August. We like 50's PT and are going back there, but our server last time wasn't much of a character. She was very nice, efficient, didn't leave us stranded at the table, but I was hoping for antics. I was hoping WCC would have antics, too, but of course I understand it can be spotty.

I won't go to 'Ohana since they made the menu changes. Ick!

Like some other posters have said, I am the planner so I am the only one who knows anything about WCC and what MIGHT take place. DH loves to eat, so the skillet will make him happy even if nothing else is happening. We'll give it a try and hope for the best, but we won't make an effort to go back if we don't enjoy it! DH will eat anything and DS eats next to nothing, so food isn't really so much of an issue as atmosphere!

We were there in Feb. We made reservations because we had heard how much fun the Whispering Canyon Cafe was. There was NOTHING going on. NOTHING. The food was ok, but not good enough to warrant a return trip in the absence of any antics. We were really disappointed.

We have only been for the evening meal. What is the atmosphere for breakfast and lunch.

We've only been for breakfast and dinner so I can't tell you about lunch.

However the breakfast was less frantic and crazy than the dinner "show". Now keep in mind the last time we ate breakfast there was last July so things may have changed.

However the waitress was still in character. My DS got the bandana hat with straw feathers and they still hooped and hollard (sp) but it was nothing like the dinner "show". The main special thing I remembered was when they had a pair of newlyweds get up and dance while our waitress sang a horrible (funny) rendition of and old country song.

We loved the breakfast - I highly recommend the belgium waffles or french toast with strawberries and whip cream. This came out with a large bowl of berries that was plenty to share with the other 2 in my party.

All in all a very nice way to start any Disney day

BTW - Since we have stayed at the WL several times I have noticed the WCC during the lunch hours and it seems similar to the dinner "show".

This Stinks!! Bobby was the best server in all the "World". My 5 years old daughter still talks about him. We have gone to WCC in the past when Bobby wasn't working and all she kept asking was "Where's Bobby".

I hope he changes his mind or at least stays at anothor resturant.

Can anyone tell me if M.T. Wallet is still there serving? If you've had her, you'd never forget her. Very loud and constantly working her tables. Also, very intuitive as she didn't push my DD, but saw that I was looking for trouble and gave it to me. I especially enjoyed seeing her tie up the kid at the next table that couldn't stay in his seat.

What a shame if there are changes at WCC. Maybe too many people that don't "get it". I'm taking my sister who needs a break and I was hoping for a lively start to our last day.

Seems like a pretty simple solution to me. Tip like crazy if your server is fun and send a letter to WL about how much fun you had with the antics. That should get the message across to both waitstaff and management.

We had so much fun as a family there even though my kids are pretty shy. I am going to book it on the last day of our trip and hope for the best...and if any of their CMs are reading this, if you make our trip, I will reward you handsomely even though we are on DDP.

Delswife just reported that last week they made more changes....No more Napkin hats at all, no more twirling the napkins, yelling is at at minmum. In the 2 hrs Delswife was there didn't do any pony races...

That's too bad! We just napkin twirled earlier last month at breakfast there!

What I like about all the crazy stuff they do is it keeps my three year old entertained. I would think that is what Disney is all about. It is a place you go to be a kid. If it is to much for some people then they don't belong in Disney.

Speaking as someone who is happy to act like a Kid at WDW, I think you get to the point. If everyplace is a stayed and stuffed shirt fine dinning experiance where are we to go with our kids to enjoy a sceond childhood?


BTW It is good to see WCC getting more replies and views than the current edition of the DIS constant "Refillable Mug" thread.

I made ADRs for WCC for August. It was going to be my first time and I was really looking forward to the pranks. DD is a ketchup hound and I was looking forward to the multiple bottles.. should I cancel and go elsewhere?

I recommend goind to the WCC, it is a must for each trip we have been on. If you are interested in really good food, I say go. We do not specifically enjoy the napkin twirling, etc.....so we ask for a table towards the back. The Wilderness Lodge is so beautiful, so get there early, and explore before or after your meal.

I was told a few fascinating things by a CM who was a server at WCC until rather recently:

-The CMs are definitely still told to play the role of "outcasts of the wild west" and still have "free reign to terrorize our guests". This particular one (though funny) is relatively quiet by nature and that's one of the reasons the person moved on to another position.

-Apparently there has been an unusually high turnover of CM servers recently. This person's opinion is that "many of the servers [are] not extremely good as wait staff--but just at yelling."

-The person suggested that if you want more hijinks, ask the host staff for a "louder" server, and if you don't want to be picked on, ask for a "quieter" one.

Interesting stuff...

I had a tower room on the 7th floor of the Contemporary once and Chef Mickeys is so freaking loud you can hear it through the door. Should they shut the noise down on that one, too?
