I'm about to cry... (Need people that know about Pop Warner at POR)

We had no trouble at all last year. But those were some of the loudest bus rides I have ever been on.

Keep the reservation.

We witnessed some bad situations at CBR in early December 2005. For me personally, I know I would never stay where the teams or cheerleaders were staying after what I witnessed. My view of things may be different than other folks, though, as I have several teen boys of my own. When a shoving match between teen pop warner football players broke out in front of us in the food court (and went on and on and no management stepped in...) I felt worried that my boys were going to be provoked as they walked by the scene. Hard to explain how I felt--you just had to be there. Then, the little teen cheerleaders by the dozen with their very revealing PJ's walked through the food court in front of my teen boys. I was not happy... My boys are nice looking and I knew they were targets of girls trying to get their attention by walking (repeatedly) by in their pajamas and bare feet. Again, you would have to have been there to see it... Just not what I want for my family vacation. I can go to 6 flags for that...

Oh Darn! We check in to All Star Sports on the 15th so we will have just missed all the :cheer2: :cheer2:!!! My 14 year old DS would have been on :cloud9: !!! That really would have been too much teenage male hormones for me to deal with. :rotfl:

I found out Pop Warner was going to be there right after I booked my trip. I have had two prior stays during competitions and I posted this thread about my past experiences http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=913537&highlight=Warner which weren't bad, but I also did NOT know prior to my trip that these competitions were being held and that we would be staying at the same resort. I switched my Dec. ressies from POFQ (because we will be sharing the same busses with POR) to CSR. If you read through the thread, you'll see that I personally didn't have any real issues with them, but since I had the heads up this time, I prefer not to be in the same resort or sharing busses...
Have a magical trip, wherever you end up staying! :wizard:

You know, I wasn't going to respond, I even closed the thread and went to another board, but I decided I would come back and give my opinion. You know, A disney vacation is wonderful for everyone. And it is so much more wonderful with the Disney Magic that is onsite. Especially with young children. IF you are mainly concerned with the bus noise from cheerleaders, and making your dining reservations that are early, why not rent a car, stay at POR (which is my all time favorite resort because it so un-Florida like) and enjoy the magic? Then you could drive to the parks (which I always do anyways), even go off property for food if the food court was packed at the hote, etc. You said you weren't going to use the early entry, but there is so much more of an experience onsite than off when you have young kids.

And as another person said, if there is noise that is unnacceptable, COMPLAIN! We all have to learn how to respect each other in public places, even cheerladers.

There have been a couple of posts that say onsite is more relaxing, more magical. I don't believe there is any magic to be had if you will be crammed into one room, and haveto deal with noisy, crowded buses and boats, and huge waits at the food court. Enjoy your offsite accomodations. You will be congratulating yourself for your brilliant decision.

Once again, thanks to everyone for helping me with this.

Thanks. Well, to fill everyone in on my continuing saga... An incredibly wonderful DISer, who owns timeshare points at Cypress Palms, has reserved for my family a 2BR deluxe for the entire stay and I'll be paying her $60.00 per night, to help cover her maintenance costs. That saves us $593.00. The rental car will be about $200 more than the original cost for 5 days, so we are saving $393.00. There is a washer and dryer, so I don't have to pack as many clothes, since it's free to wash and dry. We'll have a full kitchen, so we don't need as many ADRs, since we can cook our meals. It may not be quite as convenient as staying onsite, but it takes me back to my original budget for the trip, that I would have had, IF Disney had continued with the AP rates for value season that they have historically done. :cool1:

Thanks to everyone for all the advise. I feel like this will be a much better fit for my family and I won't have the cheerleaders to deal with for over half my trip. At least, not at my resort.

As far as the recommendation to stay at POR, but rent a car for the whole stay, that just wasn't feasible. I had planned this trip on the assumption that I'd be able to get an AP discount on the room, for about $89/night. Then best rate came out and POR was never offered with it. At least not once I was able to finally get in without it freezing my computer. So, this trip was already costing more than we could really afford. Now we'll be able to relax more and maybe have a little spending money, which we wouldn't have had with POR at $119.00/night for 10 nights.

Have a marvelous day! I'm getting really excited!

I am glad it all worked out in a way you are happy with! POR will always be there for your next trip. Have a wonderful vacation!

wow, God is good and so are the disboarders! glad all worked out for you and yours... ENJOY! :flower:

Be careful some teens may be staying offsite, double check your new hotel to make sure they haven't followed you over there..

I was just kidding by the way. I can't believe someone would cancel there stay at a moderate because of Pop Warner. If it was cost I could understand.

You are going to have an AWESOME time!! And you will LOVE all the extra space you will have!!

We stayed at The Embassy Suites, Lake Buena Vista, in Dec 2003 and it was the BEST trip ever!!! :goodvibes

I've seen families of just 4 make more commotion than any teams I've seen!!! Can we talk about the family that thought it was hysterical to watch their little darling chase around the ducks at Captain Cooks at the Polynesian.....videotaping her running under people's tables, knocking things over, running through the landscaped areas...all the while screaming..."Here ducky ducky....here stupid duck!" Oh yes..good times.

From a Pop Warner Mom, THANK YOU for this statement... in fact, I think the most important part needs to be posted again, and much larger!!!

There... that's better.

If I'd been able to have POR for $89 a night, I probably would not be moving, even with the cheerleaders and the possibility of it taking 30 minutes just to get my 4 year old some milk at the food court, but what the cheerleaders did do for me is to make me begin looking for alternatives. If I'd never gone to the off-site hotel board, I never would have seen www.hotelkingdom.com and would never have heard of Cypress palms. I would not have posted a note, asking if anyone had ever heard of it and I would never have made my new friend. We have spoken on the phone for about 3 hours over the last day. We've learned about each others families, she's given me lots of tips and tricks and places I have to see with the boys. I've been able to add her to our dinner ressie at Whispering Canyon for our first night there and, since I had 4 spots available on our Wishes fireworks cruise, and she has never been on one, she is going with us.

So for those POP families, please say thank you to the cheerleaders. They've saved me tons of money and I made a new friend because of them.

Wow, such differing opinions. Have those of you that are saying to change resorts, even if you have to be offsite, actually been there for Pop Warner week? I was at ASMusic with them in Dec. '03 and we had no problem whatsoever!! Sure, there were bunches of kids, mostly girls, doing some cheer type stuff around the pool area. But it didn't bother us at all. For the most part the kids were very well mannered. Yes, you could have the bad fortune of being close to a group with a chaperone who doesn't do their job. But, call the front desk and let them know about it.
POR is so spread out that the only time you might have an issue is at meal times. These groups do tend to eat in a bunch at the same times. What we did was try to eat early or late. The pool area might be impacted but for the most part, especially during the week, the kids are off at their competitions..not at the resort.
I would try to relax and not worry too much. When you check-in (and do that as soon as is humanly possible) ask again for a room that is in an entirely different area than any Pop kids. You should be fine!!!!

We go every Dec at that time and even stay in teh value resorts when they are there all these people making a big fuss and getting uptight about this are crazy. We have never had a single problem with any of the kids it was the parents that were the problem one year and that was the only time. We have been going this time of year since 96 and love it. The pop warner crowd just adds to the atmosphere. For all those saying change resorts maybe you should try staying at one with teh pop warner kids before you make those judgements.

How do these groups affect the parks? We are staying at POR and have been looking forward to it for a while. But, we are driving so no need to share the buses with the cheer squad. Why are they there? Is this a competition or fun trip for them?

The pop warner crowd is seldome at the parks they have a large number of scheduled events they participate in at the WWOS. The tour groups from Brazil and places like that will spend far more time in the parks than any of the pop warner groups. Seriously the parks are so big that even a large group like pop warner etc really don't make much difference over the normal park guests.

The football teams and cheerleaders who have won their Regional Divisions (after practicing, playing, and performing since August) earn the honor of competing in the National "Championship" at WDW in December. (This is their 'Williamsport') These kids have earned their way there through hard work, and must pay their way there through fundraisers, or out of their own (parents') pockets. They represent the thousands of athletes and their volunteering parents who make Pop Warner a top-notch organization.

Thanks for the last two posts. I honestly knew nothing about this organization. That helps!
