Illness on Wonder

still waiting... any news/reports from the Jan 14-17th sailing of the Wonder?

I just don't think there was as much as illness on this sailing as people thought.

It seems to me that most reports of illness have come from people on Deck 6... where also reports of a sewage spill came... coincidence???

Only thing that makes me nervous is we're staying on deck 6, though not in a room that's been mentioned (so far). viruses can linger on surfaces and such, so I'm hoping it gets killed soon!

I have to admit that I'm rather happy we're on deck 8 instead of the omnious deck 6 --- but a lot of people in our group have cabins on deck 6...

Here's hoping all the problems are resolved and that no one on the 24th sailing has any problems!

most viruses don;t last that long and the ship is constantly being sanitized. It will have been deeply cleaned 3 more times by the time you board on Sun.

I don't know what kind of reports you are looking for from the 1/14 sailing, we were on the 1/14 sailing and knew nothing of any illness reports from the previous cruise. We know a lot of the crew and officers and no one mentioned any sicknesses to us that we should have been concerned with or that concerned them.

I can't read the dr's writing well, but our daughters discharge sheets show R.... virus GI, so hopefully they will be reporting it.

Sounds like maybe in your case the doc thought it was Rotavirus, a pretty common and contagious virus that causes rapid and fairly violent GI illness. What a bummer! I'm not sure if that is one of the viruses that is usually reported to or tracked by the CDC...There was a vaccine for this briefly about

::WHEW::, reading this thread I started to get a little panicked.... but then I'm known for that... just ask my DH :lmao:

FYI ... Here is a response I received from the VSP. The sailing did not fall within their reporting threshold

... On the Disney Wonder's cruise of 7-10 January the ship reported to CDC as required the following: 46 GI cases among passengers from a total onboard of 2,721 (1.691%) and 3 crew GI cases from a total onboard of 972 (0.309%).

We do recognize that some people fail to report their illness to the ship's medical department, and that is somewhat factored into the outbreak definition above, but there is little we can do to change that outcome.

What is VSP?

Rest assured folks!
We just got off the Wonder today and saw no signs of illness or extra concern by DCL. Normal cleaning and hand wipes, but no panic!

Actually....we did see one sick child. Parents were trying to get her ON the ship on Sunday. She was actually throwing up at the shuttle drop off dockside. That is how illness starts on a ship.

I hope a. they had insurance and b. DCL did not let them on, especially if they are trying to clean up after outbreaks.

That's HORRBLE! I understand that a lot of planning and money went into it but to try and take a child on the ship who is actually throwing up?! :sad2:

My son has a chronic cough and I actually am taking his last Dr report with me as it states CHRONIC cough on it. I would be really angry if we were denied boarding because he had a non-contagious cough.
But I would not try to get on the ship if any of us were sick!

We were in room 6116...on the 10-14. Interesting to hear that they drained the Mickey Pool on the next cruise!! Just what I had figured that it came from there. I am telling you this was terrible. I took Clorox wipes and wiped everything down before we went in the room, and also had everyone cleaning their hands frequently with sanitizer and we all still got sick. It was so not good! I hope they have it under control now. I didn't report it because we were not on the ship when we all got sick, so I am not sure what the reports are for our cruise on how many were sick.

Well, my Dad caught a bug on the ship, and is now hospitalized with double bacterial pneumonia. Of course, he could have picked up the pneumonia later, while his immune system was compromised.

andrewsmommy We wish your father a speedy recovery.

I feel sorry for everyone affected. We were on the cruise ending on Sunday the 10th and stayed on Deck 8.
My wife began feeling very ill early Sat AM after late seating at Triton's Fri night. We attributed it to seasickness though she has never been seasick before. She did not have a fever nor diarrhea. She did have congestion in her ears which we thought was not helping her bad motion sickness. It was a long rough night for her. Who knows maybe it was something else? When I went to the medic room Sat for some meds, there was a small line of people all complaining of(or had someone in their party complaining of) GI distress. Most were staying on deck 6 and were talking about others staying on Deck 6 also falling ill. No one else in our party became ill.
